If it is a Ski Barge like I just bought by Dilks in Arkansas, somebody ought to jump on that QUICKLY! Helluva boat! VERY WIDE, excellent cat boat! Would love to see a pic!

Folks, Dave sent me pics of this fine boat, and quite frankly, I think he is nuts to sell it so cheap unless the hull is in bad condition or something. These Ski Barges make SUPER cat boats, as they are extra wide at 6 1/2 feet on the floor. Their flat bottom makes them GREAT river boats. If it were within 500 miles of me here, it would be in my yard TODAY! Someone from the BOC PLEASE buy this boat, and then gloat on what a STEAL you got!

Do you have the title to the boat and motor? Registration for the trailer? Does it run? Is it winterized? Will you store for the winter if it is paid for?
Thanks,
Shawn
What year is the boat and motor? mid 80's?
Bill in SC
11-29-2008, 10:45 AM
Brother Shawn. excluding the motor all together, THAT boat and trailer is an ABSOLUTE STEAL at that price. I'm astounded that no one has sprung for it! Sure wish it were near SC! Surely it will sell today or tomorrow.

Good questions Shawn. I`d be interested to know the answers, too.
Dave, that boat looks like it has marine bottom paint. Is that what it is, or just a color? Will that trailer make a road trip to FL?
Any chance you would like to visit a warm fishing state this winter, free? I can supply you with a place to stay, meals for the family and a nice little Lund to fish with. You can fish the river for catfish, snook, trout, redfish. Or the harbor for those plus shark, snapper, grouper, mackeral etc. You pay for the gas to get here and I`ll take care of everything else, if you bring that boat in exchange. The wife can hit the beaches while we fish if she wants. Just write this off as a dumb question if you`re not remotely interested, LOL.
Best, Dan

well lets see yes it has a title no registration for the trailer ummm not sure about the motor or the paint the motor has new battery cables on it so.....? lol as much as I would like to goto fl it's gonna have to be a no my van didnt like pulling it lol the trailer would make any trip I would repack the bearings the trailer lights would need rewireing also oh the title says it's a 1966 kenner 19 ft open bow
davesoutfishing
11-29-2008, 06:34 PM
I googled *kenner ski barge* all I seen wash 16 footers not sure but it's what the title says
Bill in SC
11-29-2008, 06:47 PM
OK, I found pics of these boats on Google images. Undoubtedly those two companies merged or something as the Ski Barge boats by Dilks and Kenner seem identical from all the photos I've seen. The width is what sets these boats apart from the rest of the field. If you want ROOM and COMFORT, this is a GREAT boat. I can't imagine someone spending 30K on a Sea Ark, when these type boats can be found at the price you have on this one. Not knocking Sea Arks as I LOVE them, but for the fisherman on a budget...

yeah bill and i agree, as of bill has seen mine and i seen his, ii've had mine for 5 years now, and don't ever plan on getting another catfish boat if it holds up, great boat, it would be in my yard for sure also if i live anywhere close to ya

< but i might add after further look that is one wild looking center console,>
LOL! Yes, I noticed that too. That big gaudy space eater would have to go first thing, to be replaced with the smaller console like mine and your boat has. (or a tiller steer engine and NO console)

but really that's a hell of a deal, i'm serious those boats are a rarity, and for the price it almost looks like it's in better shap then mine might be or when i baught mine and i can tell you i paid alot for then a grand for it

Hell, as you know, I just paid 3K for my 20 footer. 'Course it does have the 200 Merc on it. I bought it for the boat, not the motor, and yes, these boats are scarce. I'll buy EVERYONE I can find for 1K or less. (in my area) Rig 'em for catfishin and quadruple my money. When people see 'em in person, they can hardly believe the width, and they are super stable. They also float in VERY SHALLOW water. I'm flabbergasted that this boat is still available! WAKE UP BOC members in that area!!!!

11-29-2008, 08:16 PM
yeah bill i'm in total agreement, i fish in some shallow waters, especially in some flats to where i need to be able to float across in some water thats a foot and a half, i'm pretty confident mine will cross in 12 inches of water without having to get out and push off, i as well got mine for the room but i had been eyeballed mine for about 3 years before my neigbor decided to get rid of it, so he held on it for me , not know what i was gonna rigg it up for then he wanted to buy it back off me , haha i said well see and you know the rest

Why don`t you get a buddy to pull that beauty down and make the vacation with him? I can handle two couples if you are all willing to sleep in one room.....I can see that boat working real nice for castnetting mullet. Sure understand why those carolina boys are high on it.

As far and wide as the BOC is, it would seem possible to coordinate a 100 mile relay to get this boat from point A to point B. Buyer would have to compensate each person's fuel charges for each pull. Shouldn't add too much to the price of the boat at the lower fuel rates right now. Just be a crying shame to see this boat scrapped. Heck, advertise on all the free internet advertising sites, Craig's list and others. Get yourself TWICE what you are asking for it by marketing it free, and being patient.

The name will remain the same. 1. I am not marrying the boat. 2. I don't have a suitable replacement name. 3. I am WAY too lazy to strip it clean it and rename it. I will be much better at sliming it up with shad, course I am going to have to travel to the Ohio to really use it right. There are a few good things to a divorce I guess.

My driver! lol Hey Dave it was good too meet you to brother. I certainly hope to see you again and do a little fishing. Salmon or cat which ever comes first. I'll have to say that the trip up there ( 11 hours and 622miles) was a very nice ride. I enjoyed the peace and quiet of being alone with my inner thoughts allowing for an uninterrupted review of my life and circumstance. The time I spent within Dave's environs was very pleasant. His coworkers were very hospitable and exhibited a caring and compassionate attitude toward me ( a true sign of the respect that they have for Dave) The folks at the hotel, which Dave's wonderful Wife so cleverly manages went out of their way to welcome me.(another sign of Davis's popularity) The only concern that I had was being able to understand the language up there, man` they all sound so funny! lol
The trip home ( 13 hours) was to say the least an harrowing experience. Towing a nearly fifty year old rig (even with new barrings) waiting with a ever impending sense of dread the unwanted disaster about to assail me. Will it be the wheels or will the boat jump off of the trailer. Maybe it will be like that current TV commercial where the guy sees his own boat passing him. Oh yeah, never never tow a boat through Chicago! I know the Lord was with me the entire trip, but I was especially grateful when I finally got off the turnpike and away from those tractor trailers! I wasn't in Oz, but still there is no place like home...

Just a point of information here in case anyone thinks that boat is underpowered with a 65hp outboard. Back when that boat was a couple of years old, a friend had one that size with a 60hp Mercury on it. With 2 people aboard, it would pull one person on a slalom ski. Didn't have quite enough oomph to pull 2 at once, though. But it would fly with all 3 of us aboard.
