Be careful cutting those deer, guys. I had just sharpened my skinning knives and went to the barn to cut up a couple deer. I got the hide on the first one down below the shoulders and got over confident. One more stroke of the knife and I laid my finger open. I had to go to the V.A. hospital and get a bunch of stitches in it. That will put a damper on my guitar playing for awhile!

Hate to hear of your misfortune Billie. The stitches should help it heal faster than just a bandage.Hope it heals up soon.

My grandad use to say a dull knife was more dangerous than a sharp one. I bet you will disagree with that.

Thanks for the heads up on the deer cam, sorry to hear about the finger, seems like I nick my self every year but have never had to sewn up.
As part of my hunting, I always try to remember my mistakes of the past and try not to make them again, but when it comes to the knife, I don't seem to remember my mistakes until i'm bleeding all over the place.
There are 4 does on the feeder right now, cul.

Yea, the doc said that it was a good thing it was sharp or he may have had to cut away a bunch of jagged skin. Ouch! Every time I get in a hurry, I seem to break out in leaks and screams! LOL

That sucks Billie! A buddy of mine almost sliced his thumb off a few years ago field dressing a deer. He was alone, way off in a field. Had to drive the 4 wheeler back with blood spraying everywhere, and his thumb flopping around in the wind lol.
So, last year, I got to borrow a borrowed steel mesh cutting glove. Not only did it make dressing the deer much safer, you could also grip the hide better. I liked it so much that I asked our blade supplier for work about them. I freeked when he told me how much they cost. Through them, they are $120!!! For a freekin' steel mesh glove! One glove! So, until I find one cheaper somewhere else, I guess it's out of the question. We have these fabric "cut resistant" gloves, but I don't really trust them. I would rather go without, than have a false sense of security, and end up cutting myself anyways.
Anyways, I hope you heal up good with no nerve damage, or anything like that. Gotta keep on rockin'!

REAL SORRY to hear that, Billie, especially with your guitar playing in the equation. I assume it was on your fretting hand as well. :-( Man, that sux. Prayers out for a speedy recovery!

Toni Iomi lost 3 fingers, and still became one of the world's greatest, and most easily recognizable guitar players. Don't fret it lol.

That is my "Desert Island Album". That's some fine guitar playing. This is the finger I wear my slide on. I learned to play slide because I broke the first two fingers on my left hand in a terrible fishing accident, and that's the only way I could play for a couple months. I'll get by. If all else fails, I can always play lap Dobro! LOL :smile2:

Willie...sorry to hear about your injury. I had something similar happen to me several years ago while skinning a deer. We had let the deer hang for a couple days and the hide was hard to get off. I would use the sharp knife and then pull on the hide and all of a sudden.....OUCH...I stabbed myself in the right hand between the thumb and first finger. Deep went the blade and a trip to the E.R. and I'm not sure which hurt worse. The stabbing of my hand or the E.R. doctor who felt it neccessary to root around in there and clean it out. OMG...that hurt bad!!!!:ooooh:

Well you reminded me of the last time I cut myself good. Was putting up a tree stand and was using one of those multi tools. Like a dummy I tossed it down, the blade stuck up and when I went to grab it got a thumb full of knife, ouch. Hope it heals quick for ya!

Yea it is my left hand, little finger. If it was the right one, there wouldn't be a problem. Being classically trained, the little finger on the right hand is the only one I don't use. I wear my slide on this finger and it is pretty swollen right now. I play all styles; flat pick, thumb pick & fingers, finger pick, Travis pick, and slide. I can still play, but after years of using all the fingers on my left hand to play lead, it's hard getting used to being without the little one. I once got the thumb on my left hand broken, lost the nail and had four stitches in it. I had a show to play that night and managed to get it done. The audience wouldn't have known except that i had to stop between songs to wipe all the blood off the neck of my guitar! Two years ago, I broke the same thumb pretty bad on a Wed. and had to play a competition that Friday. I talked the doctor into waiting until Saturday before putting a cast on it. This weekend I'm playing with an old friend who used to be the drummer for Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Peter Tork, and Danny Gaton. I hope the swelling goes down by then. LOL :smile2:

Sorry to hear about your finger. A buddy and I were capping and boning a deer one time together. He was on one side I was on the other, I hit the tenden with a sharp knife and BOOM! The deer came off my side of the gambrell:ooooh:, Man was I embarrassed. His knife got caught between his finger and the deer. I lifted the deer up so he could get his finger out, it cut him pretty good.
That was 15 years ago and to this day when a deer is being skinned ( Like last weekend) that story is told, and I am just as embarrassed.

Sorry to hear of your troubles Billie. You know, I was down to the feed mill the other day and over heard two old guys talking about a similar occurrence. One of the old fellas said to soak it in cider. I assume he was referring to apple cider as it's the only kind I know of. Well the other one laughed, but getting hurt is a serious thing. Why don't you try it. You never know, could work!

Is the cider for internal or external use?

I hope y'all are kidding about the "cider" thing, because I can explain that one if needed lol.
