View Full Version : Why I Hate Coyote!
I was deer hunting in Chester South Carolina Oct of 2005.
I shot a young spike buck for the freezer and the deer ran into a thicket .
I went back to camp to get my son to help find the deer.
About two hours had passed by the time we got back to the woods.
I had seen a coyote early that morning pass in front of my stand but I could
not get a shot at it.My son found the deer shortly after we returned .
The coyotes had all ready found him .Both hams were gone. They ripped out his intestines and eat his liver and kidney. :cursing:
Any one out there know how to get rid ot these pest?

My father in law had a small problem with coyotes on his farm, I say had cause he has shot a few and problem has gone away. I have been told that donkeys will chase wild dogs and coyotes. As the farmer to the east of my father in laws has 3 of them and no dog or coyote problem. I don't know what your lawsare up their but if it was my property and legal I would shoot them.

Yeah Ace back in 1990 they said we had coyotes in 26 counties of SC by 2003 they said they were in all 46 counties. I seen one on a hunt back in 2004 and I think I may do some coyote hunting.

That is something. I have started hunting them son of guns this year. I haven't seen any, but my one friend has missed three on our hunting trips. There are more coyotes than people think.

Those darn things are bad in TN especially on Fort Campbell military reservation. We hunt there alot and are highly encouraged by the TWRA to shoot all them critters when we see them. I hunt with another BOC brother(Aftercats) and he shot a 50 lb male this year deer hunting. We will cintinue to shoot them until they are under control or all gone. I also agree with Triggerhappy (gutpile, spotlight and alot of buckshot)

Pennsylvania just changed the law here two weeks ago. You can hunt them 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, decoys, bait, lights, calls, up to 3 shot buckshot. :p

DAM! Now ya gotta say that is immpressive. Here in Jersey there have been several spotted in the southern most countys. Not to the degree that you are all talkin about, but we have em. From what I hear and I know nothin about them, they are a tuff animal to hunt. Pretty shifty from what I understand. Looks kinda like our own version of a hyena. LOL!

Get RoadRunner to lead em' off a bluff :D
No, seriously they are a real problem here in Missouri too. They are way over populated. There just isn't as many people killing them as there used to be.I can remember when it was common to see them hung across the fences along the roadways but not anymore.I do my part to thin em' out but they should put a bounty back on them like there once was.

In South Carolina its unlimited caliber and unlimited season. The DNR said to kill every one I see. I don't kill just because I can but with coyote I don't have much choice. They have killed several dogs in my area and since I have 8 Dachshund I can't chance it.

In Kansas there is no closed season on coyote and no bag limit...a furharvester license is not required....they may be shot at night time with the aid of artificial lights and bait...they are shot from airplanes...they are poisoned...they are ran with the aid of dogs...there is at times a bounty on their hide...if you can think of it...it's been tried. And yet there are more yote's than you can shake a stick at.
Good luck eradicating the coyote...YOU'RE GONNA NEED IT!!

My wifes little poodle got to where he knew how to get out of our yard when we would let him out to relieve himself. One time he got out and was gone over night. When he came back he was all bloody. I thought he had been shot. But after we cleaned him up it looked like something had tore him up. That didn't teach him a lesson and about 2 months later he got out again but this time he didnt return. I am assuming the coyotes got him cause we have alot of them here.

When i was bowhunting for deer I had 2 coyotes come within 30 yards. I stuck one of them in the neck and he died. The other one ran off. A couple weeks later on the same farm my friend shot one with his muzzleloader. Since then we havent seen to many coyotes. Heard them on neighboring farms, but not on the one we hunt.

Coyote are not dumb at all. They are one of the hardest animals to call in and kill that there is....as any yote caller can attest to. IMO...they can be as hard to get into decent range as a bobcat can be...at times. (Especially when there is alot of hunting pressure...or the squeeze has been put onto the pack recently by hunters)

fishman are you saying that the american indian were and are animals?
i know what you are trying to say,but the way you quoted it can lead one to think that you are saying we (indians) are animals...

What does this mean? If you kill a coyote...then you would kill a man?? I'm sorry...but the rationale doesn't make a lick of sense to me.

oh i agree when we set up to call we place the call about 100 yards or so away and you can always see them out there circling around before they come in.

Absolutely...it's quite the adrenaline rush to watch that coyote circle and check the wind from several different angles before he comes in to close the deal. We carry a scoped .243 AND a 12 gauge 3 1/2" mag to nail the close ones.
Ever used a stuffed animal with scent applied to it and a jerk cord attached? I have found that a distraction such as that will bring in even the wiliest yote or bobcat since it catches their eye at a long range...and keeps them riveted to that instead of being so paranoid about looking for a hidden hunter...as long as the calling is good enough.

I just moved backed to sc chester myself .Been living in az for a few years thought i was through with coyotes but to my surprise here they are.We farm goats and my opinion is kill them all.out west they are considered varmits and are legal to shoot on sight.ive only seen a few around my farm but the ones ive seen here are a lot bigger than the ones in az.I also raise huskies and my female will kill them as fats as she can find them at least they did in flagstaff. She hates them for some raeson not sure why.

They have just recently taken hold of central Va in the past few years. The ones my buddies have shot look bigger than the ones I see on the videos. I kind of enjoy listening to them early in the morning or late at night. Looking at those pics of the little buck made me post this, any deer that I killed and found a short while later that had been chewed on was still good to some degree. I would cut out what ever parts had not been touched, especially those back loins!!!!:rock-big:

The coyotes are getting pretty thick in my favorite bowhunting spot. I nailed one a couple of years back, but, as others have stated, they are VERY smart. I had another walk in under my tree stand one morning last season. I saw it coming and I never even blinked or breathed. It did not matter, though 'cause when it crossed my scent where I had walked in, it immediatley started looking up in the trees and picked me right out. Talk about an educated animal, coyotes are quick learners. The think that I despise about them most is they way that they seek out and kill the fawns in the spring.
One other thing, they stink worse than any other animal I have ever been close to except for a skunk. That arrrow that I killed the first coyote with was thrown away because of that smell. It still stunk after I washed it off.

Here in arizona we have way to many coyotes. Our deer heard is suffering enough already from the drought. We can kill them year around with any caliber. My 22-250 does a good job on them. I go out varmint calling all the time and kill a lot of them, it is a lot of fun. I live in the white mountains in eastern Az.

At my friends ranch, he had problems with cyotes getting thier calves. So we shot a couple of jackrabbits and hung em on the fence. thern sat back about 80 yards and started calling. we waited untill there was about a dozen or so before we shot anny, we managed to kill about 9 or 10 before they scattered.

We have alot in Southern Illinois. I shoot a female with my bow 3 years ago. A rabbit or fawn call works well. They will come in down wind.
