The "KING" is back 10/17/08

For you that haven't been following the tales of "IT", he's been showing up on my cameras for 4 1/2 years, year round. Never sheds his antlers or even the velvet. I was get'n the regular every 2 to 4 times a week pictures of "IT" until the tornado hit on May 2nd, then none until only one night in the middle of June. A neighbor has got a few about 1/2 mile south of here through the summer of him, but now he's finally showed back up at home.

I wonder if he left his "manhood" on a barbed wire fence when he was younger. That could account for the weird rack and not shedding.

Sam, glad to see he's back; and it looks as though the "crown" is beginning to develop some longer tines on it.
I guess I'll quit calling him "Cousin It" & start calling him "King". One thing's for sure; he's a unique fella; one you won't ever forget!

In the whole time I've been get'n picture of "IT" his antlers had never changed, in the pictures taken in May, the day before the tornado, he was the same, then no pictures till one night in the middle of June, when he had grown about 3 inches on each side, then these, the same as the ones in June. Don't know the what or why of the growth spurt, but it will be interest'n to see if he ever does it again.

My veternarian buddy says that although he could have been casterated, the odds are he got a hard hit to the head, like from being hit by a car. He said if hit right, it can mess up the pituitary gland, which controls the production of testosterone. Ends up doing the same thing either way, but a lick to the head would be a lot more likely than the other.

I was thinking that it was either a doe or a castrated buck. I have never thought about the possiblity that it could have had a head trama. Very interesting. Thanks for the pics
