it might take you a few minutes to find them... a friend of mine went yesterday and had trouble below wheeler... only caught five or six...might be the cold front....
big ones are all there are except for up a guntersville dam....a small foley spoon on a Carolina rig seems to work the best.....

How many are you getting into when you go out? I was up there last weekend below Wilson and struggled to pick up 7! And then my dag'um buddy lost one he had in his cooler to a coon while we were camping out that night! I tried telling him them coons are pretty smart and he needed to put a strap on his cooler or something, needless to say he didn't believe me until the next morning when he got up in his boat!

I hear ya brother. Yeah we didn't start until about 11 at night and then the skies opened up and started dumping rain on us ... i've been out there before and caught 70 in an hour - that's why they call it fishing I reckon!

I didnt know you could buy bait... I use shad and have for years. I just have never been able to find skipjack maybe just bad luck. Always find shad though

I prefer using SkipJack but the closest places I have found to catch them are nearly 2 hours from where I live on Logan Martin so I use threadfin or gizard shad and an occasional redhorse sucker or carp if I get one in the cast net.

i went to gunterville last fall and caught a bunch of skips. made two trips and have a good little stock built up. the first time i used them on logan martin i caught cats. blues and channels. the first cat i caught on a skip in logan martin was a 15# blue. it was in the water for only 5 minutes before he hit. i have used them with a shad on one rod and skip on the other and they would hit the skip first.ihavent been able to go since october because i have a broke leg. i have cabin fever and i want to go so bad.

I got a 49 pounder this past Sunday off a point that I fish on Logan Martin behind where I live, got it off a 5 inch shiner minnow with the tail cut off, also go a 22 ponder that same day.

Welcome to the BOC..Darren! I see you are from Kentucky, what part? Theres lots of good places to catch skips around here! I only have to drive about 10 miles and I'm on them at Lake Barkley. I use a home made skipjack rig, made from crappie jigs....tears them skips up!!!

Was wondering if anyone is catching skips right now below any of the dams. Some of us Yankees are thinking about invading the south for some fishing and don't want to leave the bait to chance. Not looking to fill the freezer just enough skips to fish for a week.

I haven't heard of none below the dams yet but on good sunny days you can catch them at the nuke plant on lower wheeler....

Stick with it Derric, you'll get it. You guys truly have the biggest Skipjacks I have ever seen. My ol Man and myself got into those big ones three years ago below Wilson Dam. Man, we blew through 6 hours just catching and releasing those things, and thats after we had 150 in the boat for the tournament. We had to drop down to one lure, as we kept getting broke off when we would get several of them on at once. They sure are alot of fun on light tackle.
