Wondered if any one can help me? I fished with a guy one time that used a homemade type bait he says he bought at a baitshop at Lake Carlyle. He said it floated and was made with cattails and cheese. Has anyone used this bait and where might i be able to find some?

you can get genos at most baits shops from carlyle to springfield, catfish connection sells it online also, i fish coffeen lake and use genos almost everytime and it works good for eating size fish, i dont know that it floats though, i use it tight lining, hope this helps, tim

I'm not sure about that, but a guy in Geneseo IL makes a floating sponge bait worm, and a bait to go with it called WD3.

Had no luck with it at Carlyle in 2004. The lady at the bait shop told me how good it was but she may of just been a good saleswoman. But then again nothing worked in 2004 at Carlyle.

At the risk of sounding like a complete catfishing newb....
What's the difference between stink bait and punch bait?

The way everyone throws arround terms here - different areas use different terms - like croppie and white bass - I believe they mean the same if I'm not wrong? 1) It stinks 2) you punch it to the bottom of the tub to coat it -
???????????????????????????? Dough are little balls you compress arround a hook- Hope I'm right?

Stink bait goes on a plastic worm of somekind(like looper rigs), punch bait goes directly on the hook.

the last part of your post was the key point i think.
it was so hot during that time that i think the cats were out in the deep channels of the lake like the river bed .
i'd have to give that bait a second try maybe when the water wasn't so hot

I used to fish with geno up at carlyle about 10 years ago and I learned a lot from him. I don/t go there any more. I have moved to granite city and now i fish the mississippi for the monsters. Anyway back to geno,s bait. It works great, the trick is to use a small #10 treble hook, we used eagle claw #10 gold. You can pull in some gig cats with that little hook.If you use big hooks it tends to fall off. Got any mississippi river fishers in here. Wanna go out with us on the boat and do some monster hunting? Shoot me a pm

Anyone in here from the st louis are alton area that knows the river? Ive been fishing the river for years from the bank but we recently got a boat and were looking for some pointers on boat fishing. I love the flatheads but would also like to catch some monster blues.

i know the river pretty good from alton dam down to chain of rocks, the 2 best spots are where the missouri puts in and the dam tailrace, fish the missouri with skipjack for the blues and the tailrace with live bait for the flatties,,, hope this helps. tim

Cut SkipJack is an awesome bait to use, but unfortunately it is hard to get in Indiana. That bait with the cattails and cheese sounds interesting. It is crazy what these cats will hit!!
