OOOOOHHHHH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess if you wait long enough it will eventually happen. Hey Bearcat and Buzz check this out. I was fishing Glenn Shoals tonight, I had been there about 3 hours and had only 1 little channel. I was using live bluegill with the tail cut off and descaled on one side. At about 1:45AM right where we anchored the pontoon the last time I brought in a 30lb channel cat 38" long.
That is my biggest fish ever. I brought it home and got pictures, weighed it, and showed my dad. Then I got it back to the lake and after about 15 minutes of CPR it took off lookin good. I hope to have some pictures in a few days.

Thanks guys,
As soon as I got home I checked to see what the state record was and its 45lbs 6oz, or something like that. But I bet there aren't too many 30's caught in a year. Its great to finally have a big one.
I hope the pictures turn out, we don't have a digital.

I just checked myself Butchy, thinking the same thing.Did you get it out of Glenn Shoals?.Thats a big fish in a small lake .Good work

Butchy
08-22-2005, 11:19 AM
Yeah Glenn Shoals, and I figure you never catch the biggest fish in the lake so who knows what's in there. Maybe sometimes the biggest one does get caught, but what are the odds ya know.

Way to go Donnie. When I first read your post I thought it was a flathead. I read it again and seen you had caught a monster channel cat. I think a 10 pound channel is big where I fish, would love to hook into a 30 lber. Your photos turned out great, if I catch a channel close to that size here in Ohio I will wearout my digital camera. :) Abu

Before this fish, a 10lb channel would have been big for me too. My previous biggest fish was an 11lb flathead so this was a huge suprise. I about died when I saw its head come out of the water. I figured there were 20lbrs in the lake but not 30's, now I don't know what to think.

Hey Donnie
Wow. Never in my life did I ever think that lake would hold channels that big. Not alone see anyone catch one. That is tremendous. That had to be a freight train geting it in. Glad a brother caught such a great fish.
Got your message by the way. Will have to get together and fish again some time soon.

I agree, it does look like a blue cat, did you count the rays on the anal fin. Either way great fish. I think my biggest channel is only like 8 lbs but I rarely fish for them, now blues and flatties are another story.

Butchy, I'm pretty sure that's a blue, but without looking at it up close and personal, I could be wrong. Either way congrats on the catch.Vern

LOL, ok it could possibly be a blue, but by the pictures it is way too hard to tell. I have seen channels black, grey, blue, brown and almost every color in between and that is in water where Flats and BLues DO NOT LIVE.

So that is a thought, but the proper thing to say would have been is that a blue? Without being there how do you know?

after looking at the pics again, i have no doubt that is a bluecat. small head big body, pale blue color, long anal fin, and deep forked tail, gotta be a blue. also, a blue can live anywhere channels do. just because the fish isnt stocked there doesnt mean it doesnt swim there. there are all kinds of fish popping up all over in places they werent supposed to be. people often transport fish from one body of water to another. it is illegal in alot of places, but it does happen. that being said it is still an awesome fish ,but it is a blue.

bluehunter
12-05-2005, 01:04 AM
Hard to tell for me without seeing the anal fin close. It did look forked though which indicates a blue cat. Nevertheless its a great catch.

Butchy
12-05-2005, 01:23 PM
Hey guys,
There aren't suppose to be any blues stocked in that lake and there really isn't any way for them to get there naturally. The only way that could be a blue is if someone put it in there, which is absolutely possible. Now, I counted the anal fin twice and got 28 and 29 rays. I was in a big hurry to get it back in the water. I have a couple of other pictures that show the fin better and the main thing I noticed was the front and rear of the fin is rounded, like a channel, instead of squared like a blue. As for these other pictures, I have them scanned but I can't figure out how to get them on here and make them bigger. If someone could help I'd like to see what you guys think.
Hey if its a blue then there are probably bigger ones than that in there.

heck of a fish ya caught butch! congrats to ya,looks like a blue to me as well and even if it is its still a great catch...early this fall i caugth a 49lb blue i thought for sure was channel because the lake i caught it out of was said not to have any blues or flatheads in it.a week later i caught a 23lb flat, someone would of had to have put those fish in there and if so im glad they did cause both are memories ill have for the rest of my life.but anywho congrats on a great catch, keep hittin it and youll break that personal best.
