I asked one of my customers the same question the other night, 'cause he was anxious about it being that time of year when he can fish AND hunt. I had the guy laughing hard within thirty seconds.

And actually it's based on something that happened to me and my dad.

None of the above , because it is illegal to shoot from a boat that has a gas powered motor

When I was much younger (17 I think) my Dad and I had hunted early in the morning and then went fishing at a lake for Crappie. The lake was low and you could see all across the dry lakebed. I kept hearing dogs running and barking in the distance and I knew they were running deer. We used to do a lot of that here in Arkansas. Anyway it wasn't long before I could see the dogs chasing a big buck across the lakebed. Every now and then the buck would stop and try to fend off the dogs by hooking at them with his horns. It wasn't long before they made their way toward us. I kept begging Dad to take the boat to the bank so that I could run back to the truck to get my gun. He finally did take me to the bank and I did get the shot and killed one of the best bucks of my lifetime. We couldn't find the dog owners that day but we left a check with the lady at the boat ramp for them to buy some dog food and to show appreciation. I was one proud kid cause back in those days we didn't have many deer here in Arkansas.

Another day of making memories with my Dad!

I thought fishin season ended when deer season started.

hit the bail on the reel, set the pole on the BANK, smoke the deer, reel in the fish, and let the fish go so i can drag the deer to the truck. assuming i'm in a legal spot to hunt, of course.

In some places hunting season and deer season overlap.

I say let your buddy reel in the fish and you kill the buck , there`s no reason you both can`t have fun.

I'd shoot the deer then reel in the fish,But I am never in a situation to see a deer while fishing during deer season here. So in reality I'd just watch the deer an click a picture of it.

Who said anything about being in a boat? Although it wasnt a big buck but a nice doe this has happened to me before. I put the rod down and step on it and shoot the deer, almost got a turkey that way too but he saw me.

I use circle hooks, so the fish ain't goin' nowhere. Kill the buck and then reel in the fish.

I would just take a handfull of bait (sweet corn) and throw it to the deer to keep him occupied until I land the fish, then I would sling a 5 ounce egg sinker upside his head with my garcia! It wouldn't kill him, but put him asleep long enough for me to decide whether he is a wall hanger, or one one to CPR! gotta be prepared for these situations!!! rollo

This wouldn't happen with me, becaue I ain't gonna be fishing when it's deer season. I can go fishing anytime. Here in Ok. gun season for deer isn't very long.

If I was fishing during hunting season, then that means only one thing. I have already filled my tags and have a freezer full of deer meat. So I would just keep on fishing and just watch the deer move on through.

I can get a fish at Kroeger but I can't get a deer there. However, I'd never be in that situation since fishing season is over for me when bow season opens and doesn't start again until the freezer is full.

I killed a bear wile fishing from a boat in WA state. Taking the rifles wile fishing is pretty cool ya never know, and sure enough a bear came down to the waters edge for a drink. Bad for him:big_smile:
In Wa state you can hunt/shoot from a boat as long as you are not under power, and moter up. We were drifting at the time.
