Ive used Code Blue before. There is a guy local to me that works for Kitchner and gets me some good stuff when he has it but I didnt get any year. That stuff works pretty darn good. There is a new guy who has a product out called the "Deceiver" around here and he has some darn good bucks taken with it in the last couple years. He claims he had 14 different legal bucks come in to this thing last year. My buddy knows him and he gave me a DVD on this thing and a couple weeks ago I saw some pics in the Wal-mart in kittanning of bucks taken with it, some real dandies. Basically you take a bottle of whatever scent you want to use and put it inside this thing and it heats up and gives off vapor but it doesnt evaporate so your scent/attractant works longer. I was thinking about trying it but who knows. I usually keep at least 1 tarsel gland frozen until archery season from the year before, especially if someone gets a doe close to peak time.

I use Bob Kirschners " Trail Maker " , it seems to work pretty well at bringing deer past your stand where a scent trail was laid.

The best attractant in Pa. is diesel and exhaust fumes! Every time I go to see my family in Brodheadsville, the highway is littered with dead deer. Looks like the best place to hunt up there is the median of I80. LOL :smile2:

Hey zebo, next time I see him I'll try and get you a bottle of it (o and thanks for the spelling). I should see him in September at the gun bash.

There was a six point buck hit by a car last week across the street from Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh. If deer can survive downtown , you can find them anywhere.

For scents, I prefer code blue or any other "single deer" in a bottle pees. I dont use cover scents but am very mindful of the wind. I use a scentlok suite. While I dont believe it removes our scent 100%, I do feel it reduces it significantly. I've had doe walk downwind of me at 10 feet (I harvested her last year) and fox at 20 feet downwind and at most got a pause and a double check before continuing to my shooting lane.

I don't use alot of scents. I use fresh earth cover scent (spray and discs). My buddy likes to use Tink's, and seems to do pretty good.

I just found this thread and add me to the list of Pa. deer hunters. I too like Kirchners scents. His book on archery hunting is a good read. I need to break out the bow and start practicing, season is only a month away!

I hunt in Bucks and Montgomery counties where it is a shot gun reg. area. I walk farther to my Flathead holes than I do my treestand:tounge_out:. I use a Browning splitlimb bow with carbon arrows and 100 grain scorpion mechanical broadheads or an Excaliber Phenix crossbow during archery and I have a Rem. 870 Express Ultra-Mag with camo pattern synthetic packedge and I sling 3 1/2" XX buckshot with it:crazy:. When I go up to the mountins I have a Win. model 94 30-30 (I like to use when I still hunt), and a 30-30 bolt action with a 3 to 9 power scope I like to use out of my treestand. I am thinking about getting a 20 gauge with a riffeld barrel and a scope. I could drop deer from 150 yards no problem and when my kids get older it would be a good gun for them to start with.

Was on my way to work tonight and saw a dandy buck on one of the farms I archery hunt. Cant wait but it really needs to cool down. Nothin worse than sittin in a tree with sweat pourin off ya and the mosquitos flyin in your ear when you know darn well the deer arent movin till after dark in the heat.

I was..........
Opening day, I saw a buck in a creek crossing as I was driving to the gamelands. I didnt see any other deer till I was driving out. Saw a doe with twins barely miss my bumper as they ran from posted land to gamelands. The dove hunters were out in force and the farmer was liming one field and harvesting the soy in the other field by my honey hole. The acorns & chestnut arent ready yet.
2nd day, This time I went to a park I hunt with a permit from the local fuzz. I went to my favorite funnel. Someone was already there in a tree stand. I hunt from the ground. So I moved on to another spot. for 30 minutes I watched 2 hens and a tom feeding 30-40 yards from me. No clue I was there. SUCH an easy shot!! But they're out of season. I left a few minutes before quiting time so I can stalk back to the parking lot. Wouldnt you know the guy in the tree stand left early & there were 8 doe standing in the kill zone of the funnel. I was busted. No shot.

Well the first day of archery season has come and gone. Anyone get anything on the ground? This colder weather we have been having should get the deer on their feet and moving around a little more. This morning there were still deer in the field until about 8:45, they mosied their way back to the woods shortly after. They met a flock of turkeys at the edge of the field and neither group wanted to give way. Some of the most comical things Ive seen deer do is when they are around turkeys. There was a doe this morning that had twins with her and Im not sure if they hadnt seen turkey before or what but the fawns wanted to play with the turkeys in the worst way...the turkeys werent in the mood. Im pretty sure the turkeys were still a little PO'd about being wet all night and these fawns screwin with them was the last straw. Absolutely hilarious.
Most of the soybeans are being taken off right now and Ive been seeing alot more deer activity in the cut bean fields in the last few days. We should start to see the very beginning of the seek phase in about 2 weeks, especially if it stays colder. My vacation is the first week of November and I cant wait.

I had a gut shot doe I tracked for an hour & a half and never found. (damn it). I went back out 2 days later and had a small doe that had no clue I was there. But passed her up. I wanted a mature doe. I'll be out tomorrow hunting again.

There is nothing worse than not recovering a deer IMO but it happens. All you can do is back out if you hit it bad and track it down later. That`s a tough break Scott.

I`m on vacaton this week and will try and tag a buck , I didn`t hunt at all this past week with the temperatures near 70 degrees. A couple of my buds did hunt in the warm temps and reported seeing a good number of does and a few lone bucks but the bucks don`t seem to be chasing yet.

I hunted the warm weather all last week. The 4th was the best day. In all I saw 15 bucks, but alot of small ones and 2 were really good shooters. On my way to work last night I saw a monster buck on one of the farms I hunt. He had to be in the 150's at least.

We actaully might have some snow for the first day this year. Its been a while since we had that. The last time I can remember snow on the first day, we had a white-out around lunch time where I was hunting.
Good luck to everyone, and be safe.

Zebo can you shoot a spike in warren county? I hunt down here in beaver county, should be an eight or at least 4 on one side, got my buck in archery season, out with the rifle now, still looking for the doe when I get the chance.

A buck with spikes smaller than three inches is considered a doe and a legal buck has to have three points to a side in Warren County.

I think I am going to break my bow back out for a little late season archery. I only got to hunt first morning of rifle season. My mom's health declined rapidly and she passed during the middle of the week and I didn't get back out hunting. I still have my buck tag so I'll see if I can get lucky!

I hunt 2B quite a bit. Its nice to fill the freezer after Christmas. Where I hunt in 2B, you can use a rifle after Christmas, which is much more rain friendly than blackpowder.
