Have not been able to fish - yet - but I have new line on the reels and a new rod and reel and my prize Danny King punch bait winnings ready to go.
There is a $10,000 trout tournament this weekend at Pawhuska but I am on call so have to be within 30 minutes of the hospital. I hope one of you
catches that fish:006:

Been doing a lot of fishing. Just haven't been doing any catching. Like to fish Kaw dam, but with no water release, it is not worth the drive. Got reports of blues being caught at Ft Cobb... off the dam. Got lost 3 times in that little part of the world... again, lot of fishing, no catching. Guess its getting time to turn the thoughts to crappie to load up with some good eating before I get back to cattin'.

I am still here. Caught a lot of channels the last 3 (out of 4) weekends up at Lake Eufaula, using DK and chicken livers. My fishing will be slacking off for the moment though as I finally graduated from the Correctional Academy yesterday and have to be at work today. I ended up on 2-10's with wed. and thurs. off, so I probably ain't going to get much fishing in until the kids get out of school. Anyway, good thread you started here and look forward to hearing from every one else!

As for jeremy congrats on the graduation. Maybe I'll see ya wednesday when i head down there for parole board.

KatmasterJR,yup,I'm in Oklahoma the correct name is Robert S Kerr, its just a wide spot in the Arkansas River. Its maintained by US Army Corps of Engineers. The stretch of the Arkansas River within the lake is the boundary line between the Cherokee and Choctaw Indian Nations. We locals call it "Kerr Lake".

I had three good weekends of jug fishing during the nice weather at the beginning of the year. We were fishing west of Sailboat Bridge on Grand Lake.
If you keep your jugs in the river channel, you can catch some nice ones on cut Shad. We caught three fish 35-40 pounds and several small ones. If you fish that area, be careful of the wind.

Lets hope we get several more inches of rain/snow/sleet. Any and all moisture is welcome at this point. Need something to get the lake levels up and to get rid of the burn ban.

Waiting for this cold snap to leave and give us several days of nice weather, I am sure I will either be on the bank some where or drag the boat out. Look forward to meeting up with some of you this year for fishing together and sharing some good conversations.

Been fishing Arcadia Lake weekly. Catfishing has been good around the dam and along the north side of the lake. Slipped off the boat ramp awhile back in my dodge dakota at Hefner Lake then I got robbed by the tow truck driver. Got a 4-wheel drive ranger now so that shouldn't happen anymore. I spoke with the ACATs guys at their booth in the tackle show and have decided that membership is a great deal. I will be joining soon. Im heading out to Arcadia tommarrow morning so things are looking good from my perspective.

I'm heading out to Arcadia tonight to see if the crappie are biting very good. Actually, just getting out of the house! Hey Matt, where exactly do you fish by the dam? When it starts warming up, we hike in from the project office and fish off the dam occassionally. I've caught a few little ones there, but nothing to write home about. I've caught a lot of crappie by the tower from the dam, too.

Good to talk to you at the tackle show Matt. I wish that I could get to Arcadia for a little prefishing but, too much stuff to get ready for the tournament on Saturday. The flu had me down on Monday and Tuesday and I have some catching up to do. Swing by for the weigh in starting at 3:00pm.

What about this weather?? Unbelievable. We are looking for a new record high of 86 today. Great time for working the bugs out of the boats and getting in gear for the season.

It is just gorgeous outside! I am waiting on my truck to be serviced-then I may try to go do something fun! I already have new line on my reels so I am ready to go! My boat is a kayak so the only thing to get ready are those arm muscles:)

Used to LOVE canoeing, only, I always dreaded the first trip or two of a season. Knew I'd be worn out and sore from it.
Good Luck!

My truck wasn't ready until after 5, so no kayaking today. I canoed once-
my friends scared me to death and I was sure the thing was going to tip over at any moment and all the junk inside would be sunk. I bought one of the wide kayaks that does not tip over easily so I feel relatively safe. Unless you are on the lake in high winds then water splashes in. But it is fun and you get to see lots of wildlife on the creeks. Went kayaking at Bear Creek last sunday. It was alot of fun but it always is on a pretty day on the water.

Any of ya'll live in the Ponca City area? I grew up there and fished below Kaw dam and the Salt Fork.
rivrbunny
03-02-2006, 10:01 PM
I have never fished on the Neosho river but I think I have driven over the bridge on my way to Long's at Grand Lake or maybe that was the Verdigris.
I am from the Ponca City area and fished the Salt Fork when I was a kid. I think a man named Red had land & he would let people camp on the Salt Fork. My grandparents used to load up on the weekend and we would go camp and trot line. My grandpa had an old Dodge and we would put our sleeping bags in the back and camp out. Lots of fun and Smores:)
We fished below the dam when it was first built. By the mid 70's Grandma had a 5th wheel and we would camp at Osage Cove and fish.
I fish mostly up on Beaver Creek now and off the bridges on the Arkansas River. Sometimes I will put the kayak in and float down from the dam. I haven't tried fishing from the kayak, usually I have a camera with attachments and other junk so I am not sure where I would put the fishing poles and tackle box. I tried the collapsible fishing rods but the eyes always seem to come loose so have not had much luck with them.
The Salt Fork and Kaw are both still great places to fish.

My grandmother had a farm on Bois D' Arc creek between PC and Marland. My other grandparents had a service station South of PC. Do people still cast surf rods below the dam for cats and stripers?
rivrbunny
03-02-2006, 10:29 PM
Ersel,
They have not been letting out much water but when they are they still line up with all kinds of fishing poles below the dam. Had some friends that did great on stripers last year below the dam. I haven't heard much about cats below the dam but I am sure they are there. Had a family member that worked for OMPA and he said one time they dropped the water and in some of the deep holes they pulled out some cats that were
80 pounds and bigger. Saw the pics and they were huge catfish. He was over 6 feet tall and alot of the fish were his height or better.
