Texas River Pirate

Hi everyone. Just surfed in. I live in Gonzales, Texas. Have been fishing the beautiful Gaudalupe and San Marcos Rivers now for 28 years now. I love to catfish. I use trotlines, droplines, sticklines, jugs, rod and reel. You name it. I have caught them all, but I think I really like catching channel cats the most. I think they have a better taste.
Have been using cut shad mostly, but you can't beat fresh earth worms from the golf course. Soap is good in the summer. I have been hearing chicken livers are tearing them up right now. I need to get out there and catch me some.
Well anyway, I just wanted to say hi to all.

What a great site this is...all things catfishing! I'm happy to be a new member and and look forward to learning more about the pursuit of the Greatest Sportfish in Texas freshwaters. I fish from a kayak or access areas with a kayak and bank or wade fish mainly for channel cat in the warmer months. My chief haunt is the Brazos River in the Marlin area. Hopefully we'll get some rain here in Central Texas this spring so we can all look forward to another successful season of catfishing.
Thanks to all who have already extended your welcomes, I am proud to be a new brother.

Wow,
Thanks to all that welcomed me to the site. Barely know that many people where I live.
To the member who asked about the worms at the golf course. We have this black gumbo dirt along the river, and the worms in it, are huge. Like 1 ft. long, and big as a pencil.
We go to the golf course, where the grass is cut real short, early in the morning when the dew is still out, and pour a chemical mixed with water on each worm casting. I use a gallon pump sprayer. The worms crawl out of the ground, and you just pick them up. The chemical dosen't kill them. I can get up to 20 doz. worms in an hour. Sometimes less, but it works like a charm. It's almost as fun as fishin. Gotta have a good back.
I catch channels, blues, and yellos with them on r and r, or on lines. It's a real fish catcher.
Thanks again.

When I lived in Farmersville Tx we had the same huge worms since Ive moved I havent seen them guess it has alot to do with the dirt where they live. What type of chemical do u pour on them ive heard of soap and water??

We use to use diazinon, 1 tlbs./ gal. of water, but I think the gov. outlawed it, can't find it anymore. We now use a lime/sulfur fungicide made by Ortho, I think that's who makes it. It does not kill the grass. Ground need to be wet, for any of it to work great. Like a day or so after a rain.
