Can any transducer be mounted to shoot through the hull? Also is there any advantage to doing so? thanks
It depends on what type transducer you have. Most units come with instruction on how to glue the puck type transducer to the inside of the hull. I have never tried this technique myself, but a lot of bass fishermen use them.

Sigmar,
The greatest limitation is the hull itself, not the transducer. A double hull that will create any kind of air gap between the transducer and the water will not work.
You must have a direct connection between the transducer, a solid hull, and then the water. Other factors such as hull noise and cavitation (mounting the transducer where air bubbles form along the hull of some boats) can cause problems too.
