I want to share with you all a situation that I ran into today. You tell me if this doesn't define a true Catfish brother.
I've pulled my camper off my campsite (riverfront property) and I have winterized my boat, and all week long I have been struggling with the fact that my fishing season was over. That stunk, but what made it worse was that the last time I got to go fishing was a couple weeks ago and all I had to fish with for bait was 6 dinky Bluegill. Needless to say, I got skunked. I drive 150 miles round trip from my house to the river and back. I don't mind making the trip and getting skunked, but I hate that I got skunked because I didn't have good bait.
Well I decided that what I really needed was one more fishing trip. So this morning my son, and his father-in-law and I headed out for our (really, really) last trip of the year. I was worried about bait so I stopped and picked up some Cheesebait, some chicken breast, I had a dozen small live Bluegills, and two frozen Shad. I like all those baits, but I REALLY wanted to fish with some Shad...fresh shad.
I've never thrown a castnet on the Rock River before today, but Matt “Catmatt” Jones gave me a location to try and told me to phone him if I had any trouble. We got to the place and I just couldn't score any shad. I gave up and called Matt.
Folks, Matt not only gave me pointers on where to throw, but he even drove out and met me. He then not only showed me where to throw, but also taught me when to haul the net in. This cast net stuff is all new to me, so ALL this was of great help and much appreciated. He stayed for a while but we never did get onto the Shad (I did manage to get a couple 10" Mooneye's after he left.) Matt was nice enough to not only met me, but he also brought me a huge bag of frozen Shad from his freezer, as well as some very good packaged Mackerel that he wanted me to try (PM Matt or check out his website for more information.) In other words, Matt hooked me up!!!!
"Thank you" seems like small words to me. Especially when somebody goes out of their way to help a guy out. For now, "thank you" will have to do.
Thanks Matt for being a BOC sponser, thanks for giving such great advice and tips, and thanks for being a true Catfish brother to us all.
