Do any of you use a "side looking" transducer with your depth finder?

I've got an older Humminbird 400TX with a "wide side" transducer on a trolling motor mount, but the transducer has been broken since I got the boat, so I have almost no experience in using the side-looking feature. I'm debating whether to replace the trandsucer or just update to a more modern fish finder and not worry about the side-looking feature.

It seems to me that the feature would be useful when trolling along a bank looking for bait fish or maybe a school of white bass chasing the shad.

For those of you who have or have used a side looking transducer, is it a useful feature or just a marketing tool?

I have it on 2 of mine. And it does come in handy when fishing banks. Or AS I do most of the time. When drifting along bluff banks.
But My new Hummingbird 987c SI side scan is coming in today. So I will get a new look at all the suff that always thought was there.
