Tech Help for Raymarine Ds500

This thing was on my boat so I dont know alot about it. I can pull up the gps points on it but it doesnt track or give way points Do I need something else to go with this unit to make it act as a gps unit. Its say in the online manual it has a NMEA 0187 something. Best I can tell this is included in the power plug. Any help would be appreciated.

It needs to be hooked up to a GPS receiver with a NMEA 0187 output. The unit itself does not have a GPS receiver built in. Apparently the previous owner kept the GPS unit if there are coordinates in your unit.

I doesnt have any in it, so I am geussing he didnt have one on it. That helps alot I have read alot in the last few days finnally getting a grasp on this gps thing. Anyway thanks for your knowlegde it helped alot.
