WELL, How about a coffee next to the vehicle, and a morning of fishing???
When and where you might ask???

How about February 17th or 18th, at Powerton Lake in Pekin Illinois. If I remember correctly the lake will be open to boating then.

All who may be interested, please leave a post. After a week, we will see if this is plausable.

Where's Pekin at? My daughter lives like 3 - 4 hrs away from me in Illinois. I think she lives in Herrin. Is Pekin anywhere around there I maybe able to come and fish and visit her.

gargoil 77 - It is about 260 miles or about a 4.75 hour drive from Herrin to Pekin. I grew up in Pekin and now live in Mattoon which is about half way between Herrin and Pekin.

I could go either day, but I have become a cold weather wuss in my 'old age'. Unless it gets close to 45 - 50 degrees I'm not ready yet.

Just keep in mind that even though the lake re-opens for boats on the 15th, the hours are only 8 - 4 pm. On a Saturday about 2 years ago I had a guard chain lock me into the facility at 7:55 pm, when they closed at 8 in the summer. He clearly saw me spinning my wheels on the mossy ramp, but evidently wanted out of there. I weighed 465 lbs at the time (233 now) and could not climb the fence. Fortunately I had a hacksaw in my boat that day and I cut the heavy chain to let myself out.

I called the security service on Monday following and complained, they apologised and said they would reprimand the guard.

i am about an hour from pekin. was wondering about motor restrictions,

There are no horsepower restrictions at Powerton. It is about 1400 acres of water, free zerox maps are available at the bait shops you find on Rt. 29, like Riverside Bait. The map shows the basic layout, where old ditches are under, where the levees are, the intake and discharge areas. You can't take a boat into the hot water discharge, but some guys will boat over to the hot water levee, anchor, get out and walk up over the levee to the hot water discharge. This is a large area with lots of bank fishermen, but they catch a lot of fish. The bad thing is that dishonest jerks will steal stuff out of your anchored boat, so be careful.

Well, So far it appears to be me again, unless someone else is bored next friday. Catwacker, if you want to go I can meet you in Knoxville at Hardee's or Mc D's there by the hotel. I'm willing to split the cost of gas for vehicle/boat.

Now they are calling for snow, and then high of 20 on Friday. So, add that with my cold from heck, and I think we should wait until March to try this. I hope Rivercat1 is feeling better, and someone realizes that his new wife is already cutting into his fishing.:p

I am always up for fishing but fishing has not been that great the last two week its starting to get to warm for powerton. Were the warm water comes out into the lake we fished there the last three times and only cought a few small ones. the intake should be getting good any day now a guy last year about this time cought a 30lb blue there. Any way Im free the 16 or 17 of March.
