I,m going to Ellis today bout 4:30. I know I can catch a channel or two.
Let you know after dark how I did. My first catfishing trip this year.

Caught a nice 12 in. shad in my cast-net, Cut the filets in strips and caught one channel about 5:30, close to 3 lbs. Also caught a nasty foot long water-dog salamander. The river was running a little swift there. I was using 10 ounces of lead and still couldn't keep my bait on one spot very long.
There was an older gentleman fishing white/chartruse jigs in the lock. He was slaying the crappies, I saw him catch 10 or so before it got dark. He also told me he caught a few yellow perch 6 to 8 inches long. I didn't think there were any in the river, least I haven't ever caught one or seen one, so I learned something new today. LOL
