I have a 12 person 3 bedroom Tent. It is like 6"8 in the center. It is a sweet setup. I will bring it for extra guys to crash in. Plus I will have the back of my pickup as I have a shell on it. I wonder how the weather will be that time of year - you know, weather permitting with the tent camping and all.

Man Brandt hows its all going sure, would be cool if ya can make it. man dude thats a long drive nearing 800miles each way
keith good to hear from ya. your boat will do good out there, the current runs about 5mph out in the middle of the river along the banks you can find slower moving water you can also find some eddies, the river runs about around 7' w/ drop offs to 10 to 15 ft, there also sand bars that have 5 ft or so drops on the back side and alot of submirged trees to be found, On the subject of shad I know nothing about, but their around, maybe Vulture knows about them he's got a place down by palo verda he may get them out of lake ciboila, he's signed up on the boc but havn't herd from in here he's on fnn maybe we need to pick his brain on that, i know he's trying to get info on sabiki rigs in there so he must know were there at. you can use a cast net to get them just not any bigger then 3' i think. I have been using gold fish for bait and Im going to try and get some big goldfish reserve for us
hey ther Deltalover i,ll be putting you down hope to meet up with ya down there them flats will be waiting on ya
bluehunter this is starting to look good think im going to get anouther spot for us. man I tell ya I,m ready for some warmer weather to get them cats going going

As far as tackle, I have calstar with penn 500l 30 pound big game, calstar with a Diawa sl20sh spooled with 20 pound test, spinning reels with 12 pound test and 4pound test. Is the 30 and 20 pound set up good for flatheads? I was thinking 12 pound test for the channel cats in the cannals and telapia and four pound for the bluegills. Are these sufficient set ups?
Jaime
riverbud55
02-17-2006, 01:05 AM
jaime I think you'll be good, u may want get a little bigger line for the channels i use 17lb line on the polls got set up for the channels and 25 and 30 for the flats. I think that the wild river fish have more kick to them then stockers i have got. ya can get some of the channels up to 10+ lb. If ya get a chance get you some 1 1/2oz to 3 oz flat no roll slip sinkers and some good heavy swivels(4/0 barrel) Catfish connection has them
janzaldo
02-17-2006, 01:34 PM
Thanks for the info Dale, will defenitaly buy another set up for the channels.
How far would you say the cannals are from camp Dale? Is it walking distance? Do you loose alot of sinkers?
Jaime
riverbud55
02-17-2006, 04:41 PM
jaime the canals are a few miles away but u can fish the river in front of camp or walk unless u have a 4x4 to the river behind camp or say around the bend in the river http://maps.google.com/?ll=33.656902,-114.520508&spn=0.001938,0.002806&t=h theres a lot of sandbars and trees that u can fish out to and at time the sand will pile up a long shore and it lets u get out in to the river and fish off the back side of the sandbars. as u can see theres sand 4x4 trail you can fish that south facing shore and easy to get to the water there. here's another shore fishin hole this is my favorite spot http://maps.google.com/?t=h&ll=33.637065,-114.526007&spn=0.001938,0.002806&t=h this is the best spot i have found on the river near by. only problem is in blythe its known as "the beach" by towns kids and it's there party spot and when I say party i meen party last year we were there and about 11pm four young ladies came out to the end of the levey and got in to the water after a few minutes thay said hope u don't mind but were haveing a party we thought cool 4 girls and they were going to have party lol well few more minutes up pulls a 4x4 truck with 2 kegs in it and thats when the girls said the party is about to start well in 5 min there was 25+ cars there. So that was the end of the fishing that nite. But that doesn't happen often and I have got a lot of nice fish from there. If someone does come down there don't pull up was down there last year with a freind and her kid and we were all in the water having a good time but i put my pole out anyway didn't think get anything but ended up getting 2 channels at 2lb and 5lb. the bait wasn't 50' from where we were in the water, had to jump out of the water to get my pole.
you can also drive up to 2nd ave and get to the river with some good spots up there to fish the upper part river up to the dam http://maps.google.com/?t=h&ll=33.695994,-114.500306&spn=0.003874,0.005611&t=h there trail here down to beach along the river, this is also a spot to meet up with boats that are up river http://maps.google.com/?t=h&ll=33.712382,-114.495081&spn=0.003873,0.005611&t=h
thats a few of the spots i know of that are near by
on sinkers it depends on where u fish but most of the 1 rig will last a weekend but ya can get hung up, got a mold here 4 making my own flat bank sinkers maybe i'l bring it and we can make some sinkers never have tried it yet but may someone has poored sinkers b4 just need to get some lead

Dale, How about the weekend of March 18-19th? I realy don't mined the weekends, because when I start fishing most of the nuts are getting off the water. This will also give Bluehunter time to get with you about going. Don't know if I will be bring the boat or not, depends on the weather and water temp. If they both start to warm, may change mine about boat, but on the other hand I hate to make a trip to river without taking the boat, CRAP!! now I have to make another Dissection and then it all starts, first it's the boat, then rods and reels, then tackle, then bait, then were to fish. Dissections, Dissections,Dissections will it ever end? I thought when you retired, this all went away.
Talk to you later . Bill

hey bill sounds good for 18th and 19th
blue ya thinking of any dates yet, 24 to 26?
well now then 4 the fishen report
water temp 58 to 60 , air temp hi low 80's lows mid 40's, 3 of us from my boat fished the river fri from 11am to 5pm with myself getting 1 - 2 1/2# channel sat morn made it out by 10 channel didb't get any thing but a few bites, we had diner then hit up a canal fished a few hours and i ended up with 2# and 3 1/2#ers. sun morn we made it out by 9am and fish till 2pm and i got 1 @ 3#. So in 3 days I got 4 fish and my uncle and cousin got zep, I got all of mine on hog wild useing a small peice sea spong for a holder and trebble hook, we also had out some shrimp and danny kings punch bait with only few bites on them, we also had out 2 goldfish at all times and never got a bite on them. well i guess theres next week. i think the water temp will come prety fast soon, if i rember from last yeat the water temp was about 72

03-07-2006, 02:15 PM
man thats cool rob I'll be looking forward to meeting you
man only a month away how time flys
I was talking to Wyane at the bait shop and telling him about whats going on and he said he would line up some the locals to come over to our main group meetin, that i would think that would be on sat. afternoon and give out as much info on fishen the area that we can bs out of them , all we got to do is feedem give them a few cold ones and i dont think we'll be short of food. This one dude Rafeal is kinda the legend of Blythe It is said that he can get a 40lber any time he wants and i realy do believe that! I have seen the dude with some monsters, wyane says he gets more big fish as all the rest put together, but he puts in some very very hard work to get them, he gets them out of the drain canals and fishes "the pipes" (the pipes that run under roads and the irragation canals) and he's one of only a few that will do it. If ya think you want to try it bring some chest high waders and 50' foot rope that you can hang on to to repel up and down the side of the canal.
So anyways were going to need to start and think of how its all going to work with time and soforth I think the one's with boats will need to be out of camp by 4pm or 5pm. and i think were going to be fishen for $$$$ so we need to think about how thats going to work.
bluehunter
03-07-2006, 11:35 PM
Woow rafael is an extreme catfisherman wading in the water for them. I hear the same thing about fishing the pipes there by a few others as well, just have not heard about jumping in the water to do it. Getting the locals to give out details will be a great expereience for me, I will have my notepad with me for that.
I do know that we should get some live bait besides goldfish like bluegill and talapia to use as well so we need to know how we are going to work that out and keep them alive to chase after those night time cruisers. Do you know of some areas to get those at from the canals? AZ Raider told me a while ago but I lost the info. If he shows he is knowledgeable about that area as well.

Dale, talked to my son and he said he is going to come up with me on the 18th and 19th for sure. I was just wondering if they did anythang to the boat ramp when the water was low? We really need to find a way to cross that sandbar after dark, besides getting out and pulling the boat across it. Have you been able to talk to Bluehunter yet about going that weekend? Sure hope the water is up . I am going to bring the boat with me and try to do some nigth fishing, I would like to try for flathead at the mouth of that canal you and I fished the last time I was there, I thank it may be good place to find them, also would would like to find an area somewere below the dam, not sure how deep the water is or even if I can get the boat up to that area. I guess I can find out when I get there. Sure hope everyone that said they are coming will be able to make the trip. Will be good time for all that mkae it.

03-08-2006, 01:33 PM
hey brian i think the dude has got to be nuts. What you got to do is find a spot that looks like no one has ever been there. and these spots are full of tules and all the crap that grow (thorns)along the drain canals, and then there's all the critters down there snakes , skunks ' raccones, beavers and the biggest damn bugs you ever could see. And then when you in the water there turtles has got to in there. there are place's that are not that bad but they get fished. he goes were other's dare not... The dude hangs around the bait shop drinken all day then goes driving the canal road's and fishen at nite. so we may catch him there at B+B's
hey dude got me a bait bucket i like at catfish connection

this is what i have but think if i were to get another one i would get the double bubble model but the smaller one the batterys last longer but if your around water you don,t need to wory about it. i think that 1- 5 gal bait bucket is good 15 good size baits.
i'm going to copy some topo maps i have and mark some spots out we have a large format copier at work so they wi be big

Hey bill great man we can follow each other up the river, the water has been running high when i got stuck it was late friday afternoon and thats the low water day at the lowest time of the day
not sure of whats going on with that get together down at ox bow he was talken of doing it but havent seen anything going on with it the dude is moving from redlands to somewere back east in mid april and may have figgerd he didn't have time I think me and blue will be there the week after you. right now he,s got his mind on big blues. he just busted out 50lb last weekend/
the ramp they didnt get the permision from the goverment to extend the ramp' but as long as the water is up its not a big problem and if it is i guess i be helpen out the people with my truck. the problem is the dock when they did the draw down on the river at the begining of jan. the ramp fell in so now there is no way from the upper landing to the dock but the good new is they got a permit to fix or replace the dock and add 100' more with slips. Its being designed and bulit right now. just hope they get it done soon. I would be bumen if there working on it when were there and can't even use the old dock. Im tellen you that would suck

thought i would post last weeks fishen report, o ya look who's got there name in
BLYTHE: Bass fishing has been good in the main river, backwaters, and area drain ditches with fish to 6-0 reported in the past week, mostly on live shiners, but some action on plastics and cranks. Lots of fish moving shallow for spawning. The catfish action is also really turning on with some big flatheads showing. Rafael Terrones, San Bernardino, caught a 45-0 flathead on Saturday and broke off a bigger fish on Sunday. Stan Heinricks, Blythe, landed a 32-0 flathead on a minnow. For more information, call B&B Bait at (760) 921-2248

BLYTHE: Bass fishing has been good in the main river, backwaters, and area drain ditches with fish to 6-0 reported in the past week, mostly on live shiners, but some action on plastics and cranks. Lots of fish moving shallow for spawning. Bubba DeFreese, Blythe, caught a 7-0 bass. The catfish action is also really turning on with some big flatheads showing. Rafael Terrones, San Bernardino, caught a 18-0 and 20-0 flatheads this past week. The best flathead action has been on goldfish. For more information, call B&B Bait at (760) 921-2248.
PALO VERDE: Channel catfish action is fair in the backwaters, canals, and main river, and some improved flathead action on live goldfish or tilapia. Largemouth bass fishing is good on plastic worms, reaction baits, and live minnows in backwaters

these are some back waters just south of the 10frw on the AZ side, this spot is were the dude were getting shad with a cast net you can also but a small boat in here, here is the spot on the map, the spot is in the center of the map http://maps.google.com/?ll=33.594679,-114.536499&spn=0.001939,0.002806&t=h. you can also get to the shores of the river and the near by back waters from here

the first one is the locals going after the shad
the 2nd is a back water closer to camp and next to one of the best spots for shore fishing spot is center of map. zoom out to find the road back to camp along the river http://maps.google.com/?t=h&ll=33.637244,-114.526028&spn=0.001938,0.002806&t=h

Ok this spot if ya have a boat is one you need to try is the cable, you need to get you bait under the cable. there is big drop off under the cable story goes somebody hooked up some old cars to the cable and trollied them out over the river and dump them in you can get the CA sdie to shore fish here by taking 2nd ave to the river. on the cables the comorants(spelling?)birds roost there and its a good draw for the cats. heres it on the maphttp://maps.google.com/?t=h&ll=33.719566,-114.496556&spn=0.001936,0.002806&t=h

Hey rob maybe better be checken out the wheel bearing also, one thing ya got to keep up on if your travel long trips with boat trailers. If ya got a used trailer you know nothing about you need to give them a check after I got that toon the first thing i did was check out the bearings and im telling ya if i had not done that I would not have made it back the 175 miles back to my home here in riverside. They were history, gone, done. man I think Billy jo will even back me up on that one

NOTICE: going to have to change the camp ground location .
Earler this week and called hidden beaches talking to the new managers and started to go over the gathering about how to collect the $ for the spots and retold about all the people and TENTS that were going to be there, well with in the last few months they decided not to allow TENTS anymore, unknown to me. And even though i made reservations back in Nov. for three spots and again adding 1 more in mid dec both times telling the person running the front desk that there was going to be a group with tents, there not going to alow us there with tents, I even called the owner and they did care about the resevation or anything They didn't care at all NO TENTS and thats it I been going there 10+years always been tents 1st time i went it was in a tent. just don't know what there thinking. Even told them i may just move my trailer out thats been there two years, and they said thats fine and I would if I could find anything like it on the river but there no place like it.. So any way I tolled up your nose with a rubber hose or some like that and we would move it some were else
I think we should have no probem with mayflower riverside county park It is just around the corner from hidden beaches. It mite even cost less and they got group spots on grass that alow tents, billyjo and myself are going to be down there this weekend and we'll get somthing worked out.
sorry about all this at the last minute. man i just think its a bunch bs

Hello All , Keith I have been to McIntyre three times and it is a good place if you have a boat. But there is no place to fish from shore. I have also been to Mayflower the place that Dale is talking about moving the gathering too. They have nice camping area, Boat ramp, and places were you can fish from shore and you can have a tent. It's also closer to bait shop and stores. I thank Mayflower would work just fine for our group. Dale and I will check it out this weekend.
Dale, they said you can't have a tent. They didn't say anything about sleeping in the back of your truck. Besides who is going to sleep at nigth, most will fish all night and sleeping during the day...Just throw a sleeping bag on the ground and catch a few winks. Eat beans outa the can and smell like stink bait. That will show them son-a-Bitchs that catfishermen is tough and we don't need no stinken TENTS!!!!

How ya all doing Billy jo and myself checked out mayflower county camp heres the the info
$16.00 per nite for a nice size spot under trees on grass with a nice little BBQ, ea spot can put 6 people and 2 vehicels.there,s restrooms and showeres. ea spot is 1st come 1st serve there are a totol of 19 spots to be had, I think there was 1 tent there this past sun morn.
if your not staying the nite day use is $2.00
there is a $ 2.00 boat launch fee, not sure if thats 1 time or for each day but ill find out about that. theres no dock so we will have to ancor our boats boat along shore and swim for them (u can run a line to shore to pull the boat to shore also) or trailer them in and out of the water when not using them. boats and trailers are stored in a nearby parking lot and are not counted as a vehicel
I will be there wed nite at my trailer so thurs morn I will go over and pay for 4 spots for thur and fri nites to make sure we have 1 large spot and we can add to that as need be, but somebody else may get between us but i dont think so, we can work the $$$$ out when we get there
for 1.00 per nite Dogs are alowed on a leash, no ground fires, will find out about if we have portble fire pit we can have a fire
there's lots of rooms in town 4 $60.00 of less. If anyone needs a # I will look up one i know of thats just been remodeled next to a good restrant.
I think we will do good here its a nice camp ground with a good launch ramp. only thing were not going to have is the docks and elictric in camp

Evey year I host the Mendota gathering, I always have the problem of everyone posting on the California page:confused: and not on the the gathering site. This may help as well. AWESOME pics Bro!!!! ya rob them owls are the coolest, cool watching the mother and father feeding the babys in the morning while setting at the table getting some breakfast and coffie, the 1st pic was last week and this one is from this week
Hey bert and all, you will need a colorado river stamp if u cant get them up there u can get them in town @ K-mart but try to get them were your coming from so you don't have to worry about the store being open to get them. there $3.00. if your coming threw SO CAL when the stores are open ya mite stop off at some place along the freeway, ya mite try a DFG office also up there, just not sure how far north they sell em in the stores. Not sure ya mite try getting them on-line
