Not sure of any being caught around here this time of the year. I had to go down to tennessee and fish a warm water discharge in cumberland city. I catch some in the summer and fall along the Ohio river in areas where the current picks up. I have tried to find some warm water discharges in Indiana but no luck yet.

i think the skips are only in the ohio and lower wabash tributaries d-nice. the rest of the state has shad as a forage base.

Gargoil:
Skipjacks are in the herring family and are a type of shad. Same Genus (Alosa)as American shad, Hickory shad, Blueback herring and closely related to gizzard & threadfin shad (Genus Dorosoma). Skipjacks are found in the Mississippi River & Gulf Coast drainages. I'm not sure of their specifics for Indiana but I know we don't have them up north here. I'm not sure how far the come up the Wabash (Lafayette?). Creek chubs are actually in the minnow family and very common in streams & rivers throughout the state.
Here's a good pic of a creek chub. Below that is a skipjack

Some northern states that don't have skipjacks have goldeneye. From talking to other members, I understand that goldeneye are oily like skipjack, and make excellent bait.

We have a few skippies up here, but they aren't too common. Hopefully global warming will bring them our way in the numbers that I hear about in TN. What do goldeneye look like? My nephew caught them and had a lot of success on the Red River in Canada. I am not sure if they are located in upper Missouri part of the Mississippi. Does anyone know?

Goldeye are located in the Mississippi River basin and also the Missouri River system. I would think you would have them in MO. I used to catch them in Kansas
He's a pic:

What we catch in Little Blue River looks like skipjacks. The guys that I wade with call them creekchubs. But they look exactly like a skipjack. I'll have to show them these pictures.

The Ohio river hot water discharches, not many over about 8 inches though. I have recently found some at the Laurel Dam on the whitewater river at Laurel Indiana. Caught about 20 there, but again no size.
