I just wanted to hello to everyone and introduce myself. I originally hail from LA (that's lower Alabama for you non-southern folks) and moved to the east coast of Florida about 8 years ago. I have been a long time catfish'n fool since I was a little kid. Don't get me wrong I bass & crappie fish sometimes but for some reason they just don't hold the same thrill for me that cat fishing does. Needless to say I was thrilled to death to find a web site dedicated just to the noble pursuit of cat fishing!! It’s not everyday (at least around these parts) that I find anyone who really even cares about cat fishing, much less a whole web site.

That being said, up to this point I've done most all of my cat fishing in ponds and small lakes. I couldn't fill a thimble with what I know about river fishing and the area I live in now means I really need to switch gears and finally learn how to fish them (St. Johns to be exact).

I've mostly caught small cats up to this point, the largest being about 7lbs. Hopefully this year I can change that sad single digit number to a double digit. I've got a ton of questions so I’m sure yall will be hearing more from me.

Welcome from NE Florida... The St Johns river and the creeks that run into it have some big catfish in them. You should have NO problem getting a 10+ pounder.

Welcome, Joe. The BOC has a lot of people w/ divergent fishing styles; hardcore recreational fishermen, begining recreational fishermen, and even commercial fishermen. From what I have seen, this site is a great place to agree with others or respectfully disagree with others. Hope you bring your candid views to the forums.

Now that you are fishing Florida, don`t overlook the sea catfish. Check out this thread in the Salt Water Fishing forum.
