Hard to find any decent blues unless u fish missour river around here and I recommend skipjack for bait but u have to go down south to get it

Welcome to the BOC I'm am positive that you will find the answer to your question here. I would recommend skipjack for bait if available. If not try bigger bait and deeper holes. Again welcome

Catching blues or channels are tough in the winter in southeastern Nebraska. I have been able to catch a few 2 pounders at Branched Oak. The best for the big blues that you're looking for is right when the ice gets of the lake a BO. They go shallow and they are fun to catch.

hi Steve! Welcome to the BOC! Being from Nebraska, I have not had the opportunity to fish the SE lakes of Nebraska. Find out what type of forage is in those lakes and match it. I would probably use cut shad or some type of fresh cutbait. Cutbait from shad, alewifes, and drum work excellent for me on big channels and a occasional flathead. Heck, don't worry about the size of bait you are using. GO BIG! Big bait. Big Fish!

Good Luck
Mark.

I'm fairly new here too. Lurk mostly. From Beatrice, NE, do most of my fishing on the Blue River and some NRD ponds. Don't do winter fishing, however during the summer at any given time I'll be down on some mud bank somewhere.

We don't have any blues around here, but to catch the larger channel cats or flat heads we use big shad, blue gill or bull heads.

Are you fishing oxbows of the Missouri river, or does Nebraska stock blues in their lakes?

Mainly stagecoach lake and wagon train lake but ive been gettin into fishin the river in Neb city as much as i can its addicting and its the closest to the house as far as rivers go.

Live bait, or fresh cut bait will turn up blues faster than anything else. I have also read in In-Fiherman about a blood recipe that you put jello or gellatin in and cube it. Havent tried the blood yet, but live bait and fresh cut has worked for me!
