Does anyone know of a tackle or bait shop around Wheeler Lake that has live shad or fresh frozen for cut bait? I did not have much luck with the cast net last year and have run out of bait. I have been using chicken livers and shrimp, but only the babies seem to want them. I have considered the preserved shad, but I think the smell would make the cats move away.

Go up to the warm water discharge at Browns Ferry (on Wheeler just 15miles west of Decatur) and catch all the skipjack you want.

The first market on 101 coming off 72 (which goes over Wheeler dam) Has shiners, and also frozen shad guts.

Those preserved shad have a chemical smell to them, that I don't even think cats would like.

I know where Browns Ferry is, I happen to work there. I just don't get out in a boat very often.

I am going to stop by the shop on 101 and see what they have. If not I think I will try to catching some gills on worms and crickets, then cutting them for bait.
