I am not sure wheather I take her or she takes me. She sure swells up when I leave her at home. I do take an ocasional day out fishing with the Boys. I can't think of anyone that I would rather fish with day in day out. She was the only girl in a family with three brothers. She was closer to her dad and was sort of tom boy growing up. She can back a boat trailer better than most men. This is the third time around for both of us, We both got it right this time. If your wife feels she is being made to go and or doesn't enjoy going with you, either don't force her or go do something with her that is equally distastefull to you that she wants to do. I have set through some of the sorriest movies you can immagine because she wanted to see them. I even manager to smile a little.:)

Mine will go and God bless her she is sort of a "tree hugger" She wont let me fish with live gills or anything live for that matter (except worms) so it puts a cramp at times to what I want to do. The way I see it I try to balance out, time with Buddies, Time with Kids, and time with the Wifie. It works well for me I just have to accept the fact that when the Wifie goes I have to "adjust" my fishing style which I dont mind. I have tried to convert her but to no avail, I am not sure that I really want to. Nice to have that special someone out on the lake at night star gazing and just being there with me while I do the things that I love. I hope she doesnt read this cause she will then want me to start scrapbookin with her... NO WAY... LOL

My wife used to go fishing with me when we were dating, more than 30 years ago. Then she pulled a bait-and-switch, and now only goes when we're on a pier, at the ocean, and the weather's not too hot, not too cold, not raining, not too sunny, not too windy, not too calm, no flies, gotta have hot and cold running water, no snakes, no eels, no "creatures" of any kind... Needless to say, she don't go much any more. I try to explain her loss, but that's life.

My wife LOVES to go fishing. In fact, only time I can go without her is when I take my son for some father/son time. Otherwise, my wife is ready to go at the mear mention of fishing.

Fishing with “the” women….. May I chime in here?

I’ve been a lurker for some time. This is my first post. :)

My Farmcat ( he reads here as well) will take me catfishing… Sure he will. We farm, it is his relaxation.

Relaxation?

He’d rather take my 13 year-old daughter, shown in his avatar picture. He struts, he brags, he continually tells me what great fishermen they are…

So I consider…. What does my daughter have that I don’t? We both carry 4 UglySticks a piece (I can do 6 on a good day ;) ).. we both pass the Gatorade, gag at the rotten shrimp and neither of us ever fails to knock a pole off the bucket. We’ve both been run over a time or two because he never trusts us to be fast enough on a quivering pole..

Why does she win?

Then I consider…. I usually take a blanket, which leads me to lay down to enjoy the stars.. on more than one occasion, ‘ol Farmcat will join me.

Well, Farmcat has never been one to waste laying down. .. not sure if it is the time elapsed or the snoring (Farmcat, mind you not me) but we both wake up to no catfish or no bait.. The cats love it when they see me skipping along behind him looking tired.

And my daughter ? I confronted her…

She confessed… She tells me her father promised to name her the best fishing buddy around, if she forgets that he accidentally threw that nylon lawnchair straight over her head trying to get to the pole that he just knew the “big one” was on…

And then.. after the struggle, her headache, and some apologetic remarks from her father.. they discovered it was a beaver.

Sure.. I get to go fishing… I just make sure I am dog-tired when he asks me... or he can settle for our bass-fishing fool of a son...

:) LadyCat

PS Someday I'll share where the big channel cat spent the night after the drive home when Farmcat was too tired to release it back in our lake...

BTW, this wife makes homemade stinkbait, farms worms, and drags her husband along...

Jen ..

Thanks for the welcome.. Oh, but I have the stories.. lol

It's fun to visit here and read from other's points of view.. I know Jeff (Farmcat) really appreciates the knowledge, as well.

We do have fun..

And, on the homemade stinkbait... I really WAS wondering what I could do for Farmcat for Valentine's Day..

I can't take my wife, she chews all my Redman. Nah I take when she can go she's not that bad, but she don't like to stay all day, and I do, but we have fun, we have a lot of fun whenour 4 year old gos, he's atrip in the boat, he caught his first bass last spirng reeled it in, and handed me his rod, kinda like I did my job, now you do yours dad. I told him, he had to unhook his own fish, and he said MOM! I need to do a ;ittle more training with him on that.lol

If you have a woman that loves to fish with you,be careful. You have a treasure.Treat it as such. You have a dream come true.If you are dreaming, well, who would want to wake up.Such a treasure is hard to find.peewee-williams

My wife goes with me about 10%-20% of the time. She likes it, but can't fish as often as I do (whenever I can). Last year, she skunked me and some friends one night....

Thanks again for the welcome, gentlemen.

I’ve printed out Pewee’s post about women who will go fishing with you being a “treasure” and I politely taped it to the dash of Farmcat’s truck. I was thinking of wrapping it around the TV remote…

TopSgtLawrence, I’ve got more “women in fishing or simply LIVING with fishermen” (in my case, just one, I assure you) stories than you may care to chuckle at…

We are an UglyStick family, too… and I do mean ugly to the tune of 14 in the dining room corner alone. Oh yes, I speak the truth.. Farmcat has a problem, a very endearing problem to those of us that find homeless kittens cute.. in which case we’d understand..

Farmcat believes that every Walmart from here to there has a 7’ UglyStick needing adoption and a stable home. It’s a process with our family… when we can’t find Dad and we know he’s not farming or fishing, we bond together and make room on the back porch. We know his absence will mean a few more UglySticks called the hotline and were in need of a less fluorescent atmosphere.

We have a situation with lures, as well… and tackle boxes, and lanterns. Our desire to assist Farmcat with his Mother Theresa-like mission (forgive my comparison, Heavenly Father) to provide shelter and adoration to all hapless fishing equipment truly warms my heart. I know that our purpose has been fulfilled in clearing the Walmart shelves…. And in doing so, they can be restocked for the latest, the best, the must-haves of the next round of fishing collections…

I wonder why, then… Farmcat usually only insists on his Gatorade, his Cool Ranch Doritos and a big bag of smelly shrimp when he takes me so very gentlemanly by the hand to the catfishing hole… we never disturb the household collections..

Oh wait… that could be because he has 8 more UglySticks in the bed of his pickup… Makes sense not to get the 11 more behind the recliner in the living room wet or disgruntled..

And yes… I do dust them all…. very, VERY dedicatingly - if that’s a word… as I’ve seen Farmcat researching those Quantum reels for some of these babies..

Oh, but I like Walmart adoption prices better…
