I'm with bill on this one, that blue is bigger than the 2 one hundred pound fish caught at memphis last month. I would be pretty confident is saying that that fish had a strong possibility of being the world record. I will commend you on releasing the fish instead of killing it by looking for someone to show it to. Congratulations and you are a true sportsman by photographing it and releasing it to be caught again. From all the other fishermen out there looking for a fish like that THANK YOU!!!!

Kenny; I was useing a whole skipjack about 6 in. 50# line in 25ft. of water. I was fishing the outside bend of the MS river after about 2miles stright run. I was by myself and after a long fight I could't land the fish. I got my arm in the fishs mouth and put my ancor rope thrue and tied it off. I call my wife and she met me at a place she could drive to the river with a camera. There were more people there at the time and they could not believe it. I didn't take the fish out of the water as i didn't want to harm it. I own certifed scales and have certifed on world record fish before but didn't wont to see this fish dead. thanks John

I do have to really think that you potentially had a new record there. Oh man oh oh man it would be nice if you could have weighed it and got the recognition for catching that Monster Blue!

I hope people remember the REP button and send much of it your way. You are a true sportsman to release that fish and never know the true weight.

Instead you would rather shove an anchor rope down it's mouth and out it's gill and drag it for 2 miles back to the ramp?

12-04-2007, 11:29 AM
Fantastic fish!!!!!

Just guesstimating, the fish is between 55" and 60". The 121 lb fish from Texhoma was 60". So you are very near the world record. In the 1st picture, if you could tell me how high the bracket is for the throttle, I could give you a better guess. Measure from the top of the bracket down to where it is bent.

I'm not taking nothing away of the fish and the release. Just the way this was handled. Let's see 2 mile trip back to boat ramp with rope in mouth and out gill.. tries to weigh fish by rope in mouth and out the gills. Hmmm 100+ pounds tearing at the gill plate. Oh but nooo can't pick the thing up because it might hurt the fish. As for the 20 pound fish fillets might as well of I’m sure that would make more since.

I may be good at somethings, but photo manipulation I am not. I commend Radish on an excellent fish and I believe his years of knowledge and persistents finally gave him a world class fish of a lifetime. Radish had every intention to release the fish without any harm being done. As a fellow catfisherman I appreciate his efforts, but a rope through the gill plate DOES cause significant damage that in most cases is eventually fatal. Once again congrats on the monster bluecat Radish, well deserved.

Congrats on the blue cat of a lifetime...I could only imagine what it must have been like to take this fish...and then release it.

Am I jealous? Well...YA!!! Isn't everybody?

That being said....couldn't there have been another way to weigh this fish without damaging it any more than it already was?

A cradle harness comes to mind. Surely the state DNR guys would have something of that nature?

It seems like such a shame that you won't get proper recognition for such a catch.

But...then again...the bottom line is that it was YOUR fish. You can do what you wish with it.

But personally...I'd be more inclined to find out what it weighed for my own personal satisfaction...if nothing else....and then release it.

Not to take away from your catch at all...Congrats once again on a FINE catch.

And more power to ya...I wish you well on future fish hunting trips.

By the way it's sense, not since.

Why does somebody always have something smart to say about big fish? It was RELEASED. It may have not been handled in the best way, but it was given a chance to survive. That fish has passed his genes on for probably better than 30yrs. It has served its purpose and once again it was released. If any of you guys handled catfish on a very regular basis(as in it's your job) you'd realize that they are a very hardy fish. That fish is probably going to be fine. The fight is probably the worst part of it. If you fight a fish for over an hour that's more stress than handling it. I dunno, if you don't have anything postive to say don't say anything at all.

what crazy does not know about the situation is that the boat ramp was 12 miles and fish was only moved 200 yards. My wife and daughter drove 12 miles through the woods to a spot on the river bank where the pictures were taken and the fish was released. You should know all the facts before you make a statement .Thanks, John

Radish, my hat is off to you sir you just caught something that all of us DIE HARD catmen dream about. Alot of people cant understand just how hard it is to handle a pig like that. By looking at the pic. you could have just turn a loose a world record fish because you were more worrried about the fishes well being than you own, man that is awsome. If everyone on here had spent the hours or might I say years that some of us has spent with baits laying on the bottom of that ole river they would understand what you done. CONGRADULATION on a fish of a lifetime!

What a tremendous catch. Sorry about hearing all the negative comments. The pic on my avitar shows my huge cat. I just found this thread thanks to ChrisBlue and I must say I am amazed!! :ooooh:

The pictures are legit, no doubt about that. The only question is how much does that hog weigh!! The world may never know! :embarassed:

Kudo's to you for placing the safety of the fish above any records. I can count the number of people that would have done that on one hand.

I hope that this turns into one of those stories where you catch another one, except next time you have a scale big enough for a world record!!

Scott, great post, it takes a true man to admit when he has done something that he is not proud of, and believe me there is nothing wrong with making a mistake once and a while, I'm guilty as any of making them, it's just when you make the same mistake over and over that it is a problem. I just hope that other people reading this post will go out fishing with an idea of what they would do with a fish like radish's instead of making quick decisions that they might regret later.

John, don't second guess what you did with the fish. You had the fish's best interest at heart and did the right thing in my opinion. You will never satisfy everyone, because everyone would have done it a little different. So hold your head up high and enjoy the memory of fighting and landing a fish that everyone of us out there just dreams of having an opportunity of catching. It's still swimming out there, and maybe...... just maybe it'll make the mistake of finding one of our baits and give us the opportunity to catch it. We can only hope!!:ooooh:

Few men can say the've caught a world record, or even close. Young fishers take note. The man put the welfare of his quarry before glory. His love and respect for mothernature superceded fame and fortune. I think the only phrase that would describe this whole saga; Once in a lifetime. A once in a lifetime fish with a truely once in a lifetime choice. You sir are the epitimy of what I think a role model should be.

My greastest respect, Dru

OK Guys;

I have waited for a few days to see the comments on this Giant Fish the Radish caught. I did it on purpose as What has happened on this thread is always when seems to happen when a Guy catches a monster. A few of the Posts have to be negative for no other reason than to try and "Rain on a Man's Parade".
After some of the negative posts were made I took the Pics and Checked them out in a Graphics Program to see if there were any evidence in what was posted about the Pic being "Photoshopped". The Photos are Genuine with no altering at all. I have a hard time understanding "WHY" Envious People make such Stupid Posts. Enough said about that.

I have talked with John(Radish) on the phone and I can tell you he is still excited about catching this Fish of a Lifetime. I am so very Happy for him to have that Great experience that we all would love to have. I do know that he had to make a lot of decisions when he got the monster to the boat. I will never second guess any of the ones he made. I am a year younger than Radish and I can Tell you when I caught the 34# and the 40# fish that I have caught, That getting them in the Boat was a total nightmare.
Only because I am 66 years old and I DO NOT have the strength to manhandle Big Fish like I used to do in younger days. It took two of us Old Farts to get my 40#er in the Boat a few weeks back and it was CPRed like this one Radish Caught. He meant well and Did Well.

Give the man the respect that he truely deserves for the Feat that he accomplished. We can all fish our life time and never catch a Fish this Large and when it does happen WHAT A JOYEOUS CATCH.

RADISH you are the MAN and I Wholeheartedly Congradulate YOU.

Had to say it:
