It has been slow here in the louisville area unless you have shad or skipjack (fresh not frozen) then it has been ok.

The fishing here in envansville has been ultra slow. It's almost enough to make you not even want to waste your time. I just think it's too hot, maybe we need to fish deep where is it cooler for them.
Let me know if you come up with something.

I live over in Henderson,Ky and we haven't been doing all that bad. We have been catching a few in deeper holes on cut skipjack, but shallow water doesn't seem to produce much at all.
Now that this rain has moved in they may start biting in the shallows at night.

on sat and sunday there was a catfish tournment held in Louisville, KY. The winning boat had 232+ lbs. The fish were caught at the hydro plant on the falls of the ohio. His bait was caught at the same location. I would post some pics however my battries went dead in the camra.

Is that the plant between greenwood boat docks and westpoint?
Man ive caught some hogs there and had hooks break.
Ive always fished with chicken liver and bluegill.
How do you catch those skipjacks and shad, im not even sure i know what they look like.

No man it is part of the locks at the falls of the ohio. I have fished the spot with every bait you can think of, but if you do not have fresh live bait all you will get is carp.

I launched my boat yesterday at 7:00 p.m. yesterday evening at Madison, Indiana. I went down river to the local power plant discharge and caught a dozen and a half skipjacks and proceeded further down the river to one of my favorite holes. I hooked my six to eight inch skipjack whole and pitched them out. At dark I headed back to the dock having caught 2 twenty pound blue cats and a 43lb blue cat. What a night. Vern

I fish the madison area also. no shad to found, but plenty of skipjack. Everyone I know is also terring them up. I figured you would be fishing the mouth of the ky river in carrolton, VLPARRISH. I caught 30+pounder last spring. I cant afford to go up that far.gas is to high.

I don't have a boat, so I have to fish from the bank of the river. I live in Northern Kentucky across from Cincinnati. What is the right rig to use in your opinions? I'm curious as to what type and how heavy a sinker to sling. I use a Carolina rig typically with a 12-24" leader, usually a 7/0 Gamakatsu Octupus circle hook with cut bait or live. What do you think?

Big Vert, I think carolina is fine. I use flat bank sinkers(no roll). The weight depends on speed of current. Heavy sinker will also put distance on your cast.

hey derbycitycatman, where is this plant at? im somewhat familiar with the area. is the plant on the ky side? and is it closer to greenwood ramp or westpoint?

Its on the Kentucky side and its about in the middle between both of em. Depending on where your coming from is where I would launch. I think it may be a little closer to Greenwood, but not much. If your coming past westpoint I would launch there, theres a private ramp where you turn in to go to fort duffield. Take a left once you pull in and go towards salt river, costs around 3 bucks last time I was there. You can always hit Salt River while your there.
Be careful about the barges in the area and move when they tell you to. I think they unload coal there and you should be able to see where the warm water is being discharged. Theres usually 2-3 places where water comes out.

I have been fishing around downtown lately. You can get down to the river at the mouth of the licking on either side pretty easy. Also, the public landing by the stadium is nice. I haven't tried the ferry yet, was going to next week. What lakes you hitting? I may go out tonight.

Flatties, Flatties and more Flatties. Some friends and I have really been tearing up the flatties since the weather change. Try using shad or nice size bluegill, they hit them all better hooked live, but will also take them dead at times.

i fished below cannelton yesterday morning. they only had 2 gates open and the water was dropping. fishing with live gills, didnt get a thing. couldnt even catch any decent sized skips. caught a few white bass and a large mouth while fishin for skips. saw some guys out on the other side of the current catch a small cat. they'll be on next week. they are starting the fall draw down on all the lakes this week so the river should begin to rise some. alot of water will be coming out of the green for sure, so you ought to do good up in henderson.

I fished the Green River at Spottsville the last three days. I could not catch any cats so I switched to fishing for Striper and White Bass. After about an hour of fishing Friday afternoon, my brother and I caught around 60 white bass and I think I caught the largest skipjack that I have ever seen. It was around 15 to 20 inches long.
I just got back from fishing Henderson for cats and caught 10 all together. 2 Flats, and the rest were channels. They were in the range of 3-5 pound range. I would have stayed longer but ran out of bait. The place where I usually get shad at did not have very many. Only got 20 - 30 with 5 throws of the cast net.
Hopefully there will be more there tomorrow, planning on heading out early but I guess that I will get a few packages out of the freezer just in case I run out again.

Spot502, If I were you I would invest in a cast net if you haven't already. It's starting to get a little late for catching skipjack on my stretch of the Ohio, so I would start targeting shad before they get scarce. Today (October 23) I caught probably five-thousand thread fin shad in a cast net in a local creek in one throw. They were all small but they caught fish. As far as locating the cats I would look for the deeper holes in and around outside river bends on the Ohio. Also the mouths of larger rivers like the salt should hold deeper water and some nice cats. I would also try drift fishing. I only got into drift fishing this year, but it can be a ball when the conditions are right.

If you didn't get on the Ohio river today for cats, I'm sorry. There are no more cats. I caught them all. I got on the water at 9:00 this morning and fished till dark. I mostly drift fished, but also anchored at times. I was fishing with 3 to 5 inch shad hooked live. I caught 12 blues of which 4 were over 10 lb, 5 channels 3 to 7lb and 3 flatheads the biggest flathead was around 30lb. What a day. Good luck. Vern

sounds good vern. I stll haven't gotten into drift fishing and I know I need to. I just don't know what I am doing. I have been getting out on the River every day. I have been getting plenty of bait and catching fish. I just need some hands on advice, so I don't feel like I am wasting my time, when I experiment with the drifting.
Private message me next time you plan on getting out and I will drift with you for a few minutes. I know certain conditions are better for drift fishing, yesterday was one of them.

It sure is going to be hard to take time off of the Ohio river so that I can deer hunt, but I guess I will. The last two weeks I have caught over fifty cats with a 45-50 lb blue and a couple of thirty pound flatheads. I love this weather. Vern

Thirteen more cats today. With a 40lb blue and a 30 lb flathead being the biggest. I also caught a number of five to ten pounders, blues flatheads and channels. I also caught 4 or 5 large drum, and 30 or so white bass. The white bass were caught at the local power plant discharge. The cats and drum were caught in 40 feet of water. Vern
