It's embarassing, living in Santee Cooper country with lots of big cats being caught all the time, but my largest on tackle came recently at an estimated 30# plus. I didn't have a scale with me, and I released the fish. My prior best was about 25#, so at least I'm making progress, thanks to advice from some to the best catters on earth here at the BOC. :) I have caught some up to 40# on trotlines before, just not on tackle.

No kiddin!? I have heard of stripers in the river down at pittsburg also, are these the same thing? Are these fished stocked? Maybe it is the locks that keep them from coming up here. I never heard of anyone catching them around here. Sounds neat. I have heard of people catching gars at lock 9. Around 10" long. And the old timers tell me stories about the spoonbill that used to be here. I guess the fish comm. is stocking the gar and the spoonbill. I learned that by taking a trip to pymatuning hatchery. They have an aquirium with all of the fishes of pennsylvania swimming around. Pretty neat to see. Learn something new everyday. I have striper fished out at Moraine, and love the fight of that fish. Be awesome to catchem out of the river.

Rockjumper - White Bass and Striped Bass are not the same thing. White Bass are more of a panfish, I believe the state record is around the 19" mark. The ones I catch on pool #7 range in size from about 6" up to 13" is the largest I've caught. The Striped Bass are those big hogs you catch up Moraine.

Are you telling me that maybe if I open my fishing digest that I may learn something..LOL:) Thanks Pacatchaser for the info.
I was just down at the mighty allegheny. It has alot of pan ice floating your way!!!! No walleye fishing anytime soon for me......

Rockjumper - I've never tried eating the White Bass but I'm sure they are probably good. One evening last Aug. the wife and I were out on the boat fishing, we had caught a few Channels, a few Walleyes and about a half hour before dark I caught a pair of White Bass around 7" each. I tossed them in the minnow bucket and rigged up a pair of my big cat rods and used the White Bass for bait. My wife laughed at me and said "I can't believe your using them for bait." Well within 5 minutes I reeled in a 28" Flathead and 10 minutes later the other rod brought in a 26" Flathead. She was amazed! I plan on using them for bait often this year when I can catch them.

The key to catching the big fish is putting in time on the water, if you do that you will be rewarded.

hi louis! i'd like to ask a question.........where did you catch this big bullhead?? if it was in the delaware, then most likely what you caught is a white catfish. there's tons of them in the big D, and they get much, much larger than bullheads, yet look remarkably close.

I am so sorry to hear about your father. I kept reading bits and pieces in other post but I never really knew what was going on. Just know that I'm here if you need someone to talk to. That is a very hard thing to go through. All you can do is pray to your higher power and ask him to watch over your dad and help him through it. Hopefully all goes well and you can get on the river and at least leave your mind at ease on the weekends. That would be cool for me, you, and dan to get together and go fishing. I'd really like to meet you. I wish the best for you brother and I will keep you and your family in my prayers!!
