I made the change! Another Florida member here now.
Hello FishCat,
Welcome to central fL. I would suggest any of the lakes in Osceola county. My favorite is lake jackson in the prairie lakes managment area in south east Osceola county. There are a couple of small spill over dams that produce real well. But the central florida area has a thousand places to fish. if you like river fishing take a drive over to the St. Johns river, Off of state road 520 there are some places you can bank fish from and in the same area there is a boat ramp also. But if you use a boat keep an eye open for AirBoats, there are a lot in use in this area and they don't always see people in a regular boat when they come out of the tall grass, so it's better for you to know where they are. Which is easy because they are pretty loud. most wal-marts here carries maps of all the lake chains in the area, they are a good investment cause of the number of lakes we have and some aren't easy to find and those are the best ones for fishing.
Good luck, hope this help you get started
Chris

Hey fishcat, Have you tryed fishin at the Kirkpatrick dam on Rodman pool? there are two fishin piers there and the channels are bitein good at night on cut bait and musscles. I've had good luck with cured chicken livers too. Check for the recipe for curein livers in the forum here.

:D Welcome
To all who have made the change to the new BOC.With that,I now have
a question. How many of you be attending,The Florida Catfish Classic?
I live in New Port Richey, born and raised in indiana,Now retired and now
can fish every day.We are getting ready to head north on the 28th,got
a new grandbaby to see #17.After spending a week visiting the kids we,
are heading to barkley lake in kentucky for a week, then on the way back,
we are going to stop in wewahitchka for 2 days to prefish the river,to get
some idea on how to fish the tournament. In all my years of tournament
fishing,I have never fished a river tournament.I understand that their are
a lot of die hard river runners up there with a ton of experience.I did not
mean to write a book here so I better finish this and eat my GRITS.
p.s.if you intend to go start looking for a place to stay,I called about a
month ago and got the last room at magnolia lodge.
GOOD LUCK& GOOD HEALTH

I was going to try to make it,but NO one will reply with info. about it. I've tried both e-mail addy's with no replies. I need info on the area never been there. Now I guess I won't be able to get a room. You would think they would be willing to help with info.but I guess not, that's a poor way to run things.

Hey guys, I just made the move from the old B.O.C. site to this new site. My name is Ray Manus and I'm from the Tampa Bay area. I've been fishing the different tournaments up in the panhandle for the past three years and I can show you some short-cuts to Wewahitchka that can help you concentrate on important stuff like catching bait and Flatheads instead of going around in circles trying to find who to talk to and where to stay. Step #1: Call Wewahitchka City Hall and ask for Don Minchew. He is the #1 go-to person for info on all the Apalachicola River Flathead tournaments. He is responsable for the Florida Catfish Classic and knows more about Flathead fishing on the Apalachicola and Chipola Rivers that anybody I know. He is more than willing to help answer all of your questions and will bend over backwards to make you feel welcome.
Step #2: Plan on going up a couple of days before tournament time to bait fish and scout out some holes. I realize that's not always possible so if you plan on arriving on tournament day then try to bring your live bream with you. It sure is nice to be able to have 2 or 3 dozen lively river bream to start the tournament with.
Without writing a book, I'll close. P.M. me with your phone number and I'll try to go more into detail and answer any specific questions I can about where to stay, places to catch bait ect....ect....Ray

any good places near ocala to do some bank fishing? other than rodman dam and ocklawaha river(which is usually flooded)?need room for 2 to 3 people each with up to 3 rods but would go down to 1each if needed. been here nearly 5 years don't even go out much for lack of places to go that have any fish.lake roussou is practickly dead where you can bank fish it that is.anyone have any new places to recomend? thanks. dennis.

Hey 98Custom, I normally use 8 ounce egg sinkers on a sliding sinker rig. That will work in most situations for live bream (4 to 8 inches). If the river is up near flood stage and the current is really kicking you might want to go to 10 ounce sinkers. Do you plan on fishing the up-coming Catfish Classic?....Ray

You bet the people at Wewa are hard to get in touch with. I tried the E-mail addresses and phone#s on their web site with no luck and finally thru the Police dept did I get someone to put me thru to Don Minchew who like they said helped me out greatly. If anyone don't have reservations I would get on it as there aren't a lot of places to stay. Today I was lucky to get a cabin at the Dead lakes resort right on the river. Schoe

Swampy, I talked to Don the other night and he gave me permission to post his phone number. You can reach him at (850)639-3474 (home) or (850)814-3180 (cell). Also if you enjoy camping, the Dead Lakes Park campground is an outstanding place to consider. It also has a convient boat launch where you can launch then work around the shallow water stumps and cypress trees to catch bait for the tournament. It's full of stump knockers, warmouth and river bream. Hope this helps....Ray

Onoinhead, Try the public pier at the Hagey-Beary ramp at Orange Lake. They've been catchin some good eatin size channels there at night and on overcast days. Catch some of the small bream in the weeds around the pier then use em for cut bait. Chicken livers are good too. If you fish at night take plenty of Deep-woods OFF, the skeeters are big and fierce. If ya'll try fishin from the grassy bank on the south side of the ramp whatch for the over freindly gators that hang out there.

Hi everyone, i'm new to Fl, been here 1 month now. Man, finding decent catfish waters is like pulling teeth here, when u ask someone about rivers holding good cats they look at you like you have a 3rd eye, i'm from lake charles, louisiana and the catfishing was pretty good most of the time, but it is killing me here in florida not to at least have a shot at catching a nice flat or blue cat. I live in dade city about 30 miles from tampa if anyone is in or near this area and can point me in the right direction plzzzzzz help. man i wish i could afford to go to that tourny in wewa!..can someone plzz post some pics of some fish caught if its not to much trouble. thanks a lot and gl to all!!!.

Tee, I would fish with you but I entered with my grandson Tyler. He's in the Kid's Classic. Don went out with us August two years ago and showed us a few good channel cat holes. Brother I was never so happy to run out of bait in my life! Tyler liked to of killed me! Over a period of about 3 hours we caught 36 (a mixture of channels and blues) all between 1 to 3 pounds and probable threw back as many that were too small to keep. As I took fish off and rebaited hooks all I heard was "Papa I got another one!". Of coarse Don was laughing his hind end off the whole time....Ray
