Walk For Freedom kicks off Jan. 6
Show your support for our troops fighting the War on Terrorism with Morale, Welfare and Recreation's Walk for Freedom Kick-off event Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. at the Cedar Lakes Walking Trail Pavilion. The event is open to the Lawton-Fort Sill community and the goal is 8000 miles from Jan. 6, 2006 to Jan. 5, 2007. Walk 8000 miles from Fort Sill to anywhere in the world and you will reach a location where U.S. Soldiers or civilians are serving in the War on Terrorism. Walkers can earn mileage points for every 30 minutes of sustained physical activity and bonus miles for attending some Fort Sill programs outlined in the Mileage Rewards program available online at www.sillmwr.com. Community Dinner slated Jan. 6 at Patriot Club
The Community Membership Dinner, featuring smoked grilled salmon, lemon pepper chicken, asparagus, roasted new potatoes including angel food cake with strawberries - is slated Jan. 6 in the Patriot Club Ballroom. Cocktails will be available at 5 p.m. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. Please RSVP by Jan. 5. To RSVP, call 442-4120. The dinner is free to club members. Meal price for non-members is $15; and children 12 and under cost $7.50.
Nye Library offers Martin Luther King Jr. display
Stop by Nye Library, 1640 Randolph Road, during January and check out the Martin Luther King, Jr. display to honor Dr. King's contributions to human rights. Call Nye Library at 442-3806 for more information or for the hours of operation. Jan. 16 is the official date for this year's observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
Soldier and Family Networking Night slated Jan. 19 at Gunners Inn
Soldier and Family Networking Night is Jan. 19 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Gunners Inn. Family Readiness Group Leaders Soldiers and family members are invited to participate in the information exchange as we learn about the many activities available in the Lawton - Fort Sill community. Representatives from MWR organizations will be available to provide an overview of their programs and answer any questions about how they can assist in the overall success of Family Readiness Groups, Soldiers and families during deployment. Refreshments will be served and child care will be provided. To receive free child care for the event, contact Gail Coffman before Jan. 17 at 442-4682.

The monthly Membership Luncheon is slated for Jan. 20 at the Patriot Club. The community luncheon is free to club members. The Mexican Menu features cheese enchiladas, grilled chicken fajitas, a taco bar, and all the fixings. Non-club members will cost $8.50. RSVP by Jan. 19 by calling 442-4120 or by emailing mwr.sill@us.army.mil.
