On Saturday August 11th the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail held a qualifying event at the Maysville River Park where nearly 40 of the top catfish anglers in the region were competing not only for cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2007 Cabela’s King Kat Classic. This year’s classic will be held on Milford Lake near Junction City, Kansas September 7th & 8th. The weather played a large factor in these anglers ability to catch the bigger fish in the area with temperatures still hovering in the mid 90’s.

Finishing in first place was the team of Kenny Leach of Sadieville, KY and Shannon Cheek of Cynthiana, KY with an over whelming weight of 86.95 pounds with a kicker fish weighing 28.50 pounds which also took big fish of the event. Kenny and Shannon were fishing 5 miles up river in 37-42 feet of water using skip jack and shad. For first place the team received $3,500.00 along with a new Minn Kota trolling motor for big fish of the event.

In second place was the Rush, KY team of Tony and Jeri Trout with a total weight of 54 pounds. Tony and Jeri were fishing in 16 feet of water below the dam using skip jack. Tony and Jeri took home a check for $1,500.00 for second place.

Third place went to Lloyd Wallace of Clearfield, KY and Charles Thompson of Springfield, MO with a weight of 48.3 pounds. Lloyd and Charles fished just east of the ramp in 40-45 feet of water using skip jack and bluegill.

Taking fourth place was Don Elder of Louisville, KY and Justin Hedges of Waddy, KY weighing in 41.9 pounds.

Finishing out the top 5 was the McArthur, Ohio team of James and Janet Fox weighing in 28.7 pounds.

Tournament Director Tanner Tabor wishes to thank all the competitors and spectators who braved the extreme heat to attend this event. Tanner also wished to thank all the local and national sponsors whom without there support these events would not be possible.
