Several of us boc members have been getting togather on Fri. nights to fish the tailrace. We missed this week as we all hit the Mo. river yesterday.
Plans are to back back below the dam this coming Fri. night again.
Bring the big anchor and come join us in riding the white water below the dam.
We have been meeting at 7:00 pm below the dam on the east side at the east bledsoe ferry ramp.
Anyone who would like to join us this coming Fri. let us know.
Good luck. Hopefully you fair better than I did last night. You're the master though so you will do fine I am sure.

Come back up on Friday night Seth, it's just a waiting game below the dam. Did you guys see Kirk out there in the channel? Sounds like his daughter got a very nice one.
I got the dam fever again now, thanks Kirk..... :ooooh:
Who's all coming up this friday????????

We are going to try and make it this friday night, The dam fever is contagious.
Not sure where exactly he was anchored at in the channel, but I am sure I did see him. It looked like Christmas lights all up and down the river channel last night.

Robert said he is planning on coming down Friday also. Not sure if he will be alone and have room in the boat for another or bringing someone.
Jim and I had a trny. to fish this Sat. up on Truman but with the lake the way it is I'm not too crazy about fishing it this month.
Drove up to the dam again last night to look at the logs in the lake. Never seen anything like it. If you get a chance drive across the dam and have a look at the logs in the lake. It looks like you could walk across the lake they are so stacked up against the dam. Also go below the dam on the east side and walk up to the spillway gates, the water coming out is amazing!!!!

Hope to start coming down on friday nights even if it is to just fish the bank with some of you guys. I do hope they slow the water down a bit soon to make it easier to fish from multable areas off the bank. Had a good time shooting the bull with Seth Saturday even if they where not biting very good where we where set up.

Sure wish They had a map showing the terrain on the bottom of the tail race it would be fun to be able to try out holes and ledges down to the bouys.

Is it the sudden 30 cent jump in gas prices. :confused2: That always put's a damper on things.

Was wondering what kind of bottom the tailrace area where you guys anchor has? is it large riprap or smooth bottom? Thinking I might drive down and give it a shot this weekend

Bob, I am not real sure just what the bottom is but I have not had any trouble getting a good anchor to hold, I use what cabelas calls a water spike.
if you can make it down friday night we will be at the east bledsoe's ferry ramp at 7:00, give us a shout

I was not as worried about anchor holding as iwas how many hang ups will I get.
never been there b-4 is bledsoes ferry ramp on map? Is this the prefered ramp to launch from. Where from this ramp do I go to find bait?
I have lots of questions as I'm a little concerned with going to a new spot with no experience, don't want to waste all my time looking for ramp/bait when I could be dragging big fish in boat:)

There is rip rap along the sides but if your anchoring out in the middle you shouldnt have many hang ups.
East bledsoe ferry ramp is a coe. ramp. Located directly below the dam on the east side in the old river channel. You need a sticker or it's 3.00 daily use to launch. Just drive across the dam to the east side and there will be a road with a sign that takes you down to the dam and boat ramp.
The old river channel has a lot of shad as well as the drake harbor ramp channel located down stream in warsaw.
I would bring along some bluegill and carp for cut bait if possible as they have been working well also.
Hope to see you all Fri.

I'm struggling with this picture thing, I upload files it shows complete , then what? nothing happens? :ooooh:, I'm still thinking it my dial up , maybe I 'll take to work and try there tomorrow. Is it normal for MDC to check fishermen at tailrace that late at night or were they looking for something in particular? I 've only been check twice in 51 yearsand never that thorough. Not a problem I'm glad to see em doing there job. It makes you sick at Mark TWAIN re-reg dam the number of peoplle just trying to snag fish and nothing done about it.

I went out Friday caught a 3 ft gar and one little blue. Fished the west side all the way down. Went out again Saturday night fished halfway down from the dam could not put enough wieght on to get a hold lost my 3 sinkers i set as my limit and went back to the house. I think I am going to start doing like the old timers around here and fish mainly on the week days when I can choose my spots better seems like it just keeps getting crazier every weekend since they started running water.

Need to start making weights and walking around selling them, probably make a killin LOL.
Guess us ol' Hillbillys just gotta go during the week....

You got that right Troy I have some lead might as well make some money if I cannot fish my favorite spots LOL. Have allways thought it would be a good spot to set up a little stand sell bait tackle like lead sinkers and such have sodas and a grill for burgers and dogs. You could make a a killing on the weekends stay open 24 hrs it would be close at hand they could just walk over even late at night and not pack up lose there spot and run to wal-mart for those little things they forgot.

spoonfish
07-31-2007, 11:05 AM
I think there forcasting around 40,000 cfs still for Fri. Brent. I know Ks. recieved some more rain also so it should be raising the osage again a little. Should be plenty of current yet to fish for a little while longer.
Jim and I went last night and limited on crappies.
The lake is still 12 feet above normal. They're going to keep running water until it's back down to multi-purpose pool level. It's dropping about 8 inches a day presently, so you've got at least 2 more weeks of good running water, probably more like 3 or 4.

Jim and I are planning to be there Friday night again.
Theres no cure for the Fever.:0a23::0a30::0a23:
My dad and I talked about heading up there again this weekend. I'll let you know later what we decide on. I'm ready for another good skunking courtesy of the Tailrace. :embarassed:
I have heard rumors that they would be stopping the truman lake level at 716 and another rumor that would be stopping it at 717 to start the clean up of the logs, using barges and a crane, but this is probably just Rumors.
At this link, http://www.redorbit.com/news/science/1014600/waters_falling_at_truman_dam_debris_remains/index.html?source=r_science
it sounds more like they will be reducing the flow to half of what it is now and has been and letting the log jam float away from the dam and onto shore. The lake has been dropping about 3/4 of a foot a day.
So only time will tell but I'm sure they will be running water for quite some time to come.
Here is a chart I made of the flood to date.
Keep in mind 706 is normal for Truman.

Well if anybody sees an aqufina bottle with a rope tied to it that would be my anchor it is sitting right past the 65 bridge. I thought it would be big enough but the current pulled it down like a snitch with concrete boots:big_smile: I feel like a dumb a@# Well at least we got the fish, my buddys PB 38lbs. on 20lb test We tried snagging the rope for over half an hour.

Well, we hooked a fish on the smallest reel we had and when he showed no sign of slowing down had to do what we had to do. The fish weight 38lbs and my buddy only had 20lb line.

Sounds like your buddy is buying the new anchor and rope. $$$$
I had a ski marker tied to mine, still not enough in the current I was in, lost mine also. Never was able to retrieve it, tried to go snagging for it with no luck.

I have a question, would the current below Truman right now compare to the Missouri?
