I,m up for it anywhere, Heck I'll go to Mobile and catch gafftops if you guys want to. Here are some suggestions for the central area. Lake Neely Henry is located above Anniston. There are some nice blues and numerous huge flatheads. Camping would be a problem though. Lake Logan Martin has some really nice blues and is located just south of I-20 near Pell City. The water is awefully crowded with anglers and joy boaters from Bham on the weekends though. I would like to add that a 100 pound blue was caught 2 years ago near the I-20 bridge on Lake Logan Martin. (Tragically the behemoth was carted around for hours in the back of a pickup and then dumped,,, I sure would like to find those boys and take them on a little boat ride......) Jordan, Lay Lakes and Bob Woodruff Res. are half way- but I have found them lacking in quality of cats. Phenix City has plenty of big flatheads on the Chattahoochee, and skipjacks to boot. Just a few suggestions. We could also alternate it's location from year to year to the most productive waters, and give everyone a chance to fish new waters. That would put the Tennessee River and it's lakes back into play, and it has some awesome camping sites. Just a thought.

I'm sure I could find room for you in my boat Johnathon, OK Lets throw some dates and places out. I vote for Sept 29. The reasoning is Auburn is @ FL, Bama is @ FSU, Miss and Miss ST are away, the Braves are @ Houston, and I am off work. Funny how that worked out. As for the place, how about the Rockpile below Wilson Dam. Nice Campground with heated showers, semi clean facilities. The water is so close you could literally fish from your tent. The channel cats below Wilson Dam very active and catching a mess is a no brainer. The Channels are also the darkest you will ever see. Like a Dark Olive and Brown, wierd but tasty. Above the dam in Wilson, I can personally promise that 60lb blues will be caught. The Lake is the place for the bruisers in early fall. The heat won't be to bad, There is plenty of shade. A nice boatramp is a stones throw away The dam was built in the 1930's I think, it was of a Neo-classical Roman Design. The walk to the dam has some breath-taking views. Sauger,Hybrid-Stripe-Smallmouth bass all will be heavily feeding below the dam that time of year. But it is in Muscle Shoals, let me know what you think. P.s. John you can fish from my boat if you would like.

sounds like we are getting some good direction on a gathering. again i am up for anything but just did a little looking and looks like a midway point in the state would be around montgomery. 174 miles form mobile, 191 form huntsville. plenty of good water on the al river and campsights, just a thought.
see you guys soon.

i appreciate the offers yall. i like the sound of the al river in montgomery, and the idea about the dam.

just curious the reasoning behind the football schedule? even more curious as to who pulls for bama and who pulls for auburn?

Don't know how many from Alabama may fish it I am planning on tring it. So back to back weekends may be rough on some .

I am in let me know where and when, although I do like the idea of the Alabama Rive, it is hard to get more central in the state than Montgomery.
Again I don't care where it is, the fisheater and I will be there.

I think everyone has been too busy, I know I have, retiring from one job and starting another. So let's regroup on this AL get together. It's probably too late to do a fall get together, many of us will be pursuing furry critters instead of slimy ones in the next few months . My suggestion is( for what it's worth) Let's plan a spring get together, no excuses, everyone plan on it. If we want to be central in the state then I suggest the AL river, either Gunter campground or Roland Cooper state park near Camden( That may be the ideal place, well known for lots of cats)

Soooooo..... if anyone's interested and we can decide where, I'd be willing to organize it and get the campground reserved.

Gimme some feedback if your interested.

We need to do this ya'll!!!

Should be fun.

Mike if it were up to me I would say we do it at Gunter Park. They have someone around all hours of the night and the facilities are great. The boat ramp is close to great catfishing and it is probably the middle of everyone. Lets just say it will be there if noone disagrees so we can go ahead and get the process underway. Let me know.

You better make reservations now. In the spring there are no open camping sited. All the sites are taken up by crappy fishermen.
Down close to the dam is also good and would allow non boaters to fish from the bank or fish below the dam. Some great catfishing below the dam.
I forget the name of the camp ground there.

Mike81
10-28-2007, 02:23 AM
That's Roland Cooper state park near the dam. Depends on how many end up wanting to go. If it's a bunch we can reserve a campground, if it's not that many folks that want to come and we have a few boats we can camp on the river and bank fish when not out on the river.....I caught a big flatty sitting on the bank grilling steaks and drinking a cold beer.

I'm open to whatever the majority wants to do.
