WELCOME TO THE BOC!!
Nightowl, I have a couple of questions. do you have a boat? Is there a good boat ramp there in Vicksburg that a boat can be launched? I visit relatives there in Mississippi and would like to fish that area of the Mississippi in the near future.

WE DO. WE HAVE TWO PUBLIC RAMPS IN VICKSBURG ONE IS IN TOWN OFF OF LEVEE ST. AND ONE IS SOUTH OF TOWN ON LeTOURNAEU RD.
BOTH RAMPS ARE VERY NICE BUT I WOULD RECOMEND THE LeTOUREAU LANDING JUST BECAUSE OF THE PARKING AND BAOT TRAFFIC. THE ONLY DOWNFALL TO THE LeT. LANDING IS THAT IT ENTERS INTO THE MAIN RIVER CHANNEL AND THERE USSUALY ALOT OF CURENT. THE OTHER LANDING IS IN THE YAZOO CANAL AND IT ONLY ABOUT A MILE OR SO TO THE MAIN RIVER CANNEL.

Welcome to the B.O.C, Morgan. I fish the Ohio river, North, Central Ky. Most of the big catfish that I have caught have come on big chunks of fresh bloody bait. Shad produces very well and is easiest to get, most of the time. Use a 8.0 or 10.0 hook, a piece of bait 4 or 6 inches long, and a 5oz sinker. Get next to that channel if you can. If you can find a drop off or ridge, these spots can produce big fish. You'll need heavy tackle, Meadium heavy rod at least 6', and a reel that can handle 20lb. line or bigger.
Good luck brother!

Welcome to the BOC Morgan! Need to get out there and find you some skipjack. Saw your post about trying... All I can say is, if the skips ain't there, you ain't gonna catch 'em! There's something on the MDWFP boards about catching skips down there, from earlier this year. I'll troll through and see what it says for you. And right now, no one is catching any fish to speak of. Even the Memphis boys are barely able to get a 30 pounder or two in the boat these days, which really shows how bad the fishing is!

Greetings from North MS nightowl. Welcome to the boc. It has been my experience that bigger bait = bigger fish. Use big hooks, big chunks of bait and big sinkers thrown into deep water. I still have yet to break into the twenties, but that's the advice i've been given and i'm passin it on. Welcome again.
