Anyone have any Ideas for the 06 gathering?
My vote is for a central ohio lake or river.

Sounds like a very good idea to me. Just have to wait for warmer days.

I definitely vote for a central Ohio location as well. If you ever go to that frappr website you'll see Ohio is covered for an idea of having a national gathering around here.

I'm all the way down in West Chester by Cinci, but i could probably make it up that way. By the way I just found this site the other day. I am orgiannly from Kansas where fishing for cats is big but, I didn't think it was big this far up north. Any info about good lakes and rivers for cats would be welcome. :D

Theres MANY mbrs in the Southwest OHio/Northern KY area. Perhaps a spot on the Ohio River is in order?

H20, we had a small gathering last year at Maysville, KY. I may have to set one up there again this year.

Glad to hear there are many cat fisherman up here. It been hard to adjusts to all the different laws up here but, i think I am getting the hang finally. Does it ever get cold enough here to ice fish?

I wouldn't mind a spot on the Ohio where I could catch some blues.
The reason I say it should be a central ohio lake or river is because we have a lot of people on this board who fish the muskingum river, dillon lake, buckeye lake. Lots of people who know good spots.

jason454ci
12-17-2005, 07:40 PM
I say it should be somewhere where there are some flats.

Catbird
12-17-2005, 08:10 PM
Last year, I stayed at Shawnee State Park. In this area, you have 2 small lakes. It is also close to the Ohio and Sciota Rivers. For the people who don't like to camp, it is close to Portsmouth for motels. The access ramps on the Ohio ans Sciota are free in this area. I didn't catch any flats but I am sure they are in this area. That day, we boated a 7#, 11#, and 18# bluecats. Or we could have it at Forked Run or Maysville, KY.

maddcatter
12-17-2005, 08:56 PM
Forked Run is ok, but I probably won't be able to drive that far. That's why I'm hoping for a central Ohio location. Dillon offers some pretty good fishing. The lake has some nice channels, and the spillway has some big flatheads and channels. There are also a lot of good spots on the Licking River which flows right through Dillon. Also, the Muskingum River is only minutes away.

At this location, the members would have three different bodies of water to fish, all with decent cats. What do ya think?

shenbitt
12-17-2005, 11:46 PM
I like that idea maddcatter. My family likes to camp while I am fishing so just about anywhere that has a camp ground I am up for. Telling work to piss off for a whole weekend....another matter.

jason454ci
12-17-2005, 11:48 PM
Sounds good to me only about 10 mins to Dillon and 2 mins from the Muskingum for me.

shenbitt
12-17-2005, 11:58 PM
If it's central though I am looking at least a 2 hr drive on a good day. Most likely more.

flathunter
12-18-2005, 01:11 AM
I would try to make it to any central, or southern ohio location..It would all depend on my work schedual.

jason454ci
12-26-2005, 10:52 PM
Dillon state park has a large camp ground and a good bit of cabins. They have a launch ramp less than a mile from the campgrounds. Plenty of hotels here in Zanesville which is about 10 mins from the lake. Plenty of channels in Dillon and Buckeye lake. Nice flathead fishing in the Muskingum and licking rivers. Sure would be nice to get a gathering together in this area so us ohio members could get together and meet one another and share some fishing tips. I know there are quite a few members around this surronding area. If we could get something together as far as a general time frame so everyone could make plans. I'm sure we could have a good turn out. If interested please post so Maddcatter can try to get something off the ground.

Sounds like we need to come up with some dates of some sort. Sometime in the early spring sounds like a good time to me. I'm having withdraws already. LOL. Everybody throw thier opinions in as to when they would like to have it held. That would be a good start. Then we can get the wheels turning on this. :006:

april 1 st is on a saturday

maddcatter
12-28-2005, 09:54 PM
That might be just a little too early. From what I've noticed, the best fishing starts late april/early may. But if april 1st is better for everyone else, I don't have a problem with it.

Also, does everyone agree to the Dillon lake area?

ryang
12-28-2005, 10:02 PM
Also where are we looking at I want to hit Tappen or even the Muskegum(sp) sometime in that time frame

Desperado
12-29-2005, 11:31 AM
I don't mind getting together and maybe even planning it. But we need to let the lakes fill back up and least. When we planned some stuff last year everyone said they would go and maybe 3 show. So if everyone really want to be serious about a get together I will plan everything. What I need to know is who is bringing a boat and who is bank fishing? Do we want to bring food or just bring your own? Also which lake we want to go to? Now Dillion doesn't have that much bank fishing access, the spillway is good to fish but if you never fished a spillway it can be tricky. Just let me know.

ryang
12-29-2005, 12:30 PM
I would be banking it Desperado. I would like to go somewhere that there is a chance of catching something big (preferable) altho catching a bunch of 2-10 lbs would be fun too.

Im down with a Central Ohio trip. Can't wait!

maddcatter
12-29-2005, 04:37 PM
Dillon (in my opinion) would be a great choice for the simple fact that The licking river and the muskingum are within minutes away also. Both of these rivers offer a decent chance at a good fish, wether it be flathead or channel. And both rivers offer a decent selection of bank fishing spots. Plus, I wasn't thinking we would go until late april early may. Prime flathead time!

Desperado, If anyone takes charge, I think you should be the man.

ryang
12-29-2005, 04:57 PM
Sounds good to me since I want to fish there also and can drive there in about an hour.

jason454ci
12-29-2005, 08:26 PM
I'm thinking Dillon area sounds about the best. Most people would probally like a chance at some flats. While the lake itself doesn't seem to hold too many the rivers do.

maddcatter
12-29-2005, 09:44 PM
I agree, What the lake itself lacks with flatheads, it makes up for in channels. The spillway offers a great chance at both flats and channels, as do both rivers.

Ok, then I will start putting this together. It seems Dillion is a good place to get together and maybe meet near the beach area. There is places to fish and it is shallow up that way and you can get into lots of nice channels, maybe a flat. Know how many people will be coming helps with the location on the lake or even some want to hit the spillway. So let see who wants to go.

I ment to say Buckeye lake at Leibes Island ..just re read it and saw what I typed ..didnt want any confusion

The Beach is just at the bottom of the hill before the spillway ..Off State Route 146...we could even all meet at the Duke station

Id like to fish the Main boat launch..kinda catty corner from the dam..theres tons of bank space and the channel runs right past it

I know there are more out there that want to make this outing. But time will tell. The beach area at Dillion is at the north end of the lake opposite end from the dam and spillway. Buckeye lake is a good place for everyone to go. But for bigger fish, Dillion would be a better choice. But from what I'm reading most want to go to Dillion? Maybe even Hoover Res.??

You can get away from them. I never seen one on Dillion lake since I fished there. When it gets dark they leave anyway.

Desperado
12-31-2005, 12:03 PM
Ok, we have a good list going. Which lake would you all like to hit?

Buckeye Lake
Hoover Res.
Dillion Lake
Alum Creek Lake
Delaware Lake
Deer Creek Lake

Since most of you are going to bank fish please let me know.

ryang
12-31-2005, 12:20 PM
Out of these choices

Buckeye Lake
Hoover Res.
Dillion Lake
Alum Creek Lake
Delaware Lake
Deer Creek Lake

I would go with either Dillon or Delaware. I havnt fished Delaware that much but I know there are some bigguns there and you wouldnt have to go to the rivers to get bigguns. However I think that Dillon would have some better choices with the rivers since most of you know them you could show some of us novices with some decent spots without showing us your prime honey holes unless you want to ;).

Desperado
12-31-2005, 12:25 PM
On these lakes it doesn't matter which lake you choose, I will give you areas I catch fish in and some honey holes.

doughboy
12-31-2005, 01:05 PM
i guess my choice would have to be dillion or if ya go futher east there is piedmont lake with some big channels and flat heads

tspergin
12-31-2005, 01:15 PM
keep in mind the water is usually real high in the early spring at dillon and a lot of bank access is limited, but the fishing is great

bro_catfish
12-31-2005, 06:26 PM
Well Ive fished Delaware a few times with out any luck
Dillon isnt a honey hole kinda spot and its not all that deep..deeper then Buckeye lake though
Before the dam is a set of deep holes...but if your bank bound like I am then its not sich a nice spot,,,big rocks near the watrer make chairs a hassle..but the rocks are big enough to sit on..with Gas being 300 a gallon we will have to team up with the driving if we go to far

Desperado
01-01-2006, 01:04 AM
Bro_catfish you haven't fished Dillion that much. It runs about 10-17 ft. in lots of places that can be reached from several different areas from the bank. About 20 yards in front of the ramps is 15 feet. and most of Buckeye is 4-6 feet with nice holes and long ditch type areas at 12-14 ft.

bro_catfish
01-01-2006, 05:23 PM
Ok I guess I should have said holes that I know of from the bank
Ive fished Buckeye and Dillon all my life..and also a place called TJ Evans
its a puplic set of huge ponds with tons of catfish..its stocked and well lit but you have to buy a yearly pass like $8 bucks
ITS NOT A PAYLAKE they are all raised there Ive seen them delivered and the biggest was 1/2lb or so ..Very Nice place

I will most likely be bank fishing unless i can bribe one of my buddies with a baot into allowing me to stow away with them. ;)

I am open to most all the places mentioned, I know several of us from the Dayton area will probably carpool over.
Now, are we set on the date?? and if so, what is it? Im woorking on the year long schedules for a few fishing groups I am involved with and would like to put it on the schedule before I get to these other planning meetings.

Thanks, Salmonid

Right now I'm checking on places on some lakes and river areas for everyone to fish. I need to know about when people want to fish. Dillion and most lakes are in flood stage during the spring and the rivers are up a bit too. What months is good to start in? Then I could narrow it down to a weekend. Just need input guys, this outing is for all of us.

Salmonid
01-03-2006, 01:27 PM
Desperado, Im no expert but perhaps we should angle for a lake with river systems close by so there are options and perhaps make it a whole weekend deal so folks can camp and try 2-3 places during the weekend with different folks. This would allow some folks to fish just one day or the other also would allow for any real high water events as the lakes would still be fishable, but the rivers may not be but if they were, then all the better. Something like this is a 1 shot deal as if you try to do a raindate, then folks will never be able to keep both weeks open, IMO. and youll get a poor turnout.

With our traditional late springs of lately, perhaps the first of May, just a thought. The last few years our heaviest rains came in mid May and all of June if memory serves me right.

Salmonid

dinkbuster1
01-03-2006, 02:40 PM
sometime during pre-spawn and during either a full moon or new moon period would be great if possible. i just checked moon days and the f/n moon days start hitting the weekends around the mid of may. ive got a large 15 foot jon/25hp i'll be using, and a smaller 14 ft jon with a 9.9 if someone here in the dayton area want to use it. you gotta pull it though lol. unless its a lake with a 9.9 limit, then i'll have to use it.

bro_catfish
01-03-2006, 02:52 PM
I agree mid may sound right
so How about the 19th 20th and 21st?
and as far as location ..no one said we can only have one get together
so we can have one at one location and then another closer to the first party who had a 2 hr drive ...I mean fair is fair :glare:

Folks, If I can set aside some time, I'd like to invite y'all out to Coshocton in June sometime. We have a campground, or I may have some empty rental trailers for use. There is a campground, and there is the Walhonding, Tuscarawas, Muskingum, and Wills Creek nearby with plenty of Bank and boat Access. As far as the May outing, I will be fishing Salt Fork heavy. If you have it there, there is plenty of access and I witnessed a 20,32,35 coming out myself. There is plenty of bait to be caught fresh and y'all could learn to use a cast net too. It is 1 1/2 hours east of Columbus, all good roads, and I can help but not run it. Netman lost a fish due to 40lb line breakage, DH lost a good one there, and I saw pics of a 60 caught there too in April an May. Anyhow, if anyone wants to chat about it call me on my cell @ 740-502-1017

PS The fish bite that time of year from 6:30- 11:00 pm for all of you like me, who need their beauty rest. I hear there is another bite at 1 or 3 am, but that's past me bed time. LOL

I am all over those ideas loanwizard.......lots of bank access and lots of big flatties from shore there all the time. I have caught and seen some monsters there

One guy down there catches big flatties all the time. unless it is 60 lbs, he says it is not big  so when he is catching 50plus lbers regularly, you know the place is good. He also releases them, so that is a good thing :) May is also my favorite time for Salt Fork..Lots of big ones caught

ok, Guys, We are going with May 12th,13th, and 14th. Now I hear some want to catch Flatheads, some want to catch Channels and some just want to catch a fish.
I'm looking for a place that can hold several people and have nice fish to be caught. But just want to know how far people want to travel to come to the outing. We can car pool if needed. Salt Fork is a great lake, with the Walhonding, Tuscarawas, Muskingum, and Wills Creek near by like loan said. We could all fish Alum Creek and the DNR says there is nice flats in Buckeye. But now it's up to on how far you want to go. Let me know, because I hear some don't want to travel far and some don't care. I will have this nailed down very soon with some input.

I'm all for Salt Fork too! A lot of BOC brothers fish it with good results. Also in your off time there are mushrooms to be found that time of year, probably better a week or two earlier though.

Sooner or later we are going to have to meet in Cambridge again for another breakfast or lunch. We had a great time B S ing last year. It helped get through the winter. Then we could go cruise the lake and campgrounds. What do you think guys?

Checking out the map, Salt Fork does look good. What does everyone else think?

I'm in agreement. Are any of those 9.9 lakes? I'm just thiking that 9.9 usually means no PWC & minimal boat traffic.

Don't worry about boat traffic on salt Fork Mellon. It is not restricted to 9.9, but the ski zone is not very big and you will want to go the other way anyway

Oh yeah did I say I was all for Salt Fork? :D :p

I am new to the site, so I did not know about the Cambridge meeting. I would be up for one if it would fit in with other stuff.

Salt Fork sounds good to me also. I have heard of nice flats coming out of there. The only question is will there be any water in it? Doesn't really matter where it's at I just want to get together with fellow members and have a good time. Netman a Cambridge meeting sounds great a good b.s. session is always a good way to pass the time.
