Hi guys,
We live in Mobile. Any help from fellow South Alabamians would be appreciated. Anyone fish Big Creek Lake and if so, what is the best way to fish it?
I know the water in the upper basin is kinda salty right now. How far up do ya have to go to find fish and where would ya launch.
What about the smaller creeks like Bayou Sara or Dead Lake. Do they have any channels to speak of?
And one more, if your fishing Mobile River around McIntosh, what areas would you suggest?
Thanks for any help and sorry for all the questions.
Denny

hey denny,

my first question to you is do you have a boat? that makes alll the difference in the world around here. you hit the nail on the head when you said the salt water has moved up. week before last i launched out of dead lake and went North of 65 on the mobile river, i cought a couple decent fish but mostly crabs and croakers believe it or not. although i have talked to ppl who do really well over there. i usually just fish the baldwin co. side. anyhoo, let me know if you come up with any other questions id be glad to help if i can.

we do have a 14' Tomboy with a 50hp Evinrude. Not a great boat, but it gets us there and back. We have fished Dead Lake before (in fact, I grew up in Axis) when all we had was a canoe, and also go over to Baldwin Co on occasion.
When I was growing up, we used to trot line up in Coffeeville below the Lock. Actually had a camp right under the Jim Folsom bridge.
I will gladly accept and appreciate all the advice on locations that you are willing to share.:smile2:

denny,

if you ran trots up by claiburne then there aint much i can tell ya man! i used to go up there a couple times a year to camp and fish and bowhunt in the fall. havent been in recent years though. ive always kinda liked the baldwin co. side better for cats (delta). i know a few good holes here and there. you can get just about anywhere with your boat. right now i just havent heard a lot of good reports from anywhere around here. other than speckled trout, but the wind is outa the west now and that will prolly screw up my side of the bay. me and my wife are goin camping up around boat yard this weekend (she calls it camping- i call it fishing with sandwiches and beer) ill let ya know how we do.

Welcome.

You can find cats anywhere in the lower Delta. I usually don't put in any lower that Cloverleaf off of HWY 225 though. There are good fish to be caught around Gravine Island.

Alabama River last nite. Caught one 8 lb'er and a few dinks. I think the neap tide had a lot to do with not catching much. Had trouble finding shad, but finally got enough to fish with. The big one ate a cut shad and the dinks were eating cut shad and shrimp. Nothing ate the live shad.
