There's always folks fishing below the dam. Most of them are friendly and will offer you tips and sometimes even bait. I don't ever fish there myself but go by there to get bait sometimes. If you have a boat, it's hard to beat the lake for catfish. Stick to the upper end to avoid more of the pleasure boaters or fish in the early mornings.

Do you call the upper end north of McHaffey (sp) bridge?

More like upriver from Jolly Roger or Mid-River Marinas yet still below the 380 Bridges. If you haven't had much experience going above 380, please be careful. Right now, there's plenty of water but at normal pool, you can get stuck in the mud pretty easily. And of course, there are stumps everywhere.
