i was hoping we could have a thread dedicated to the mo river conditions. is it still over the dykes or is it finally dropping? if you have been out lately have you caught anything?

went down to bellevue in haworth park the other day and noticed that they pulled the docks out of the missouri. i don't know if they just put them in that late or if it was cause the river was so high? if anybody goes by or sees the docks back in the water please let me know.

My uncle landed and released a 60 lb flat and a 8lb blue last night around Omaha caught both on sunfish. Said he had no grass on his line so maybe the river will clear up a bit. I'll post a picture when I get them back.

Wow 60lb flat in Omaha! I need to catch something like that up north here by Sioux City in the Missouri.

I'm heading out tonight, putting in at manawa going to try all night but we'll see. Fished last weekend up at Okaboji for walleyes and it was terrible. I'm almost at the point were all i'll fish is the misssouri river and my parents farm pond. if any one wants to meet up or has been catching anything give me a hollar back.

how did yo do Jake?

MO RIVER MAN
06-20-2007, 04:53 PM
Fished from around five to 2 with nothing had a few nibbles off of bluegill, but was using circle hooks so just watched the rod tip dink around. Got so bored of moving to differnt spots I even threw on a nightcrawler to catch something (carp, drum, anything).
Ya so as I was saying great.

fishinjunky
06-26-2007, 09:42 AM
put in at Haworth yesterday and could not seem to catch any bait tried three different dykes and no shad or anything ended up snagging it and losing my cast net. then tried catching a skip or drum on the rocks and couldn't catch nothing. so i decided hell with it i'll just throw some stinkbait on and try and catch something ended up with three channels, and caught about a ten pound common carp on a worm, heck of a fight since it was on my light duty bait rod. all in all good day found some really good spots to fish if i actually had bait.

where is haworth? Is that down in Bellevue?

fishinjunky
06-26-2007, 10:49 PM
yea its in bellevue, would not recomend during daytime power boaters and jetskiers everywhere. rude as hell to couple of the guys flew by me full throttle only 25 feet away. also manawa ramp is just upstream from it. good fishing structure though found plenty of good spots.

nudimeyer126
06-27-2007, 04:53 PM
Thanks zach. I used the manawa ramp a couple times its not bad. Last week I went with jake and we put in at manawa and there were alot of jet boats showing no respect. It was hard to fish with so much wake rocking the boat. It wasnt bad after dark besides not catching anything.

sorry jake their was no massive bite today, ended with 5 channels biggest around 4 pounds. caught a drum diced him up for bait, tried 3 blown out dykes no luck. alot of crap like branches and debri coming down river, line usually had grass on it. well thesis is the fish are on the rocks holding to anything sticking into the water, trees larger rocks and pilings. did not try for any flatheads but talked to one guy at the ramp and he says the bite is starting to turn on. we'll see hopefully will be out saturday, for sure on monday. invitation still extended to whoever wants to go. i will be targeting flattys both days.

I was in the kc area earlier this week and had very little luck except one I fought for 45 min until it got in a snag and broke my line. I fished four nights. The guys down there are saying the flats and blues are in spawn and not likely hitting hard, but will be picking up. The ones that did catch fish were getting them in the shallow current before a dike or hole, and thats for blues. I don't know about Nebraska but thats what they are going through. I'm thinking about heading back to Nebraska and thinking about hitting either the De soto area or the loup power canal. How is the shore fishing at de soto? According to satellite images there are several wing dams on the Nebraska side. Has anyone fished them with luck?

I have not had much luck on the river either I was up at blair last night and didn't even get a nibble.

MO RIVER MAN
06-30-2007, 08:13 AM
Ya, I fish De Soto sometimes if I get a hour or two. Usually just little ones. The wing dyke north of the boat ramp doesn't have much current to it and isn't that deep. But somebody caught a giant blue around there years ago, I remember hearing about it but don't know where it was. IN fact it might have been at wilson island when it was flooded. I don't know. You are talking about the river not the lake right?

jbuck984
06-30-2007, 11:46 AM
yeah, I'm talking river. Did anyone go out last night?

we were out on sat. from 6pm - 9am sun. had bites the whole time just didnt get a fish on we went at it all wrong every one else fished rocks and we didnt got skunked

fishinjunky
07-03-2007, 01:00 AM
well saturday did not fish the river but fished a lake with my dad skunked i told him thats the last time i am fishing a lake. today (monday) launched at Haworth again, completely different ball game absolutely tore the channels up. anywhere from the size of my pointer finger to 12 pounds was the biggest, the funny thing is i was fishing with stinkbait the whole time. did catch a couple on worms. had two live bullheads out for flattys, nothing. fished the rocks again did not even look at a dyke. did make a interesting observation though, no bites on the middle of the outside bends only on the first and last 50 yards of the bends and let me tell you they were thick. also alot of fish in the main channel, more than usual. fun day but sure would like something bigger yankin on the end of the line. flats and blues should be coming off the spawn here in a week or two hopefully and it'll be on like donkey kong.

flathead_hunter

07-12-2007, 11:56 PM
JakeW, their is not very many good places to bank fish the mo. boyer chute can produce but their is usually a crowd and bites are usually few and far between. plattsmouth has some access but more on the platte river than the mo, thats actually where the platte comes into the missouri. or just pm. me and i'll take ya out on the boat, usually catch fish just haven't figured the big ones out quite yet.

fished with camochris on tuesday night no luck (besides a drum that got diced up for bait.) but some fish are probly still spawning. fished wednesday morning for about half hour before i got called into work and caught 4 drum and a small flathead, and a few other runs on the clicker but could not connect. flathead caught on cut drum, drum caught on worms. will be out saturday night, sunday, sunday night, and monday hopefully. fish should be on one of these days. need to catch something big.

just got back from river did not stay as long as expected. got on the water at6:00 p.m. saturday and fished till' about 4:30 a.m. sunday. caught two drum, two flathead, 5 channels, and two goldeye. no luck on good sized fish, tried rocks, dykes, and flats. heard from good source that more huge fish were hauled in while i was fishing last night. will keep trying more time on water more potential for big fish to be caught.

river dropped about another foot since last been their. most pilings are out of the water and dry. also heavy mayfly hatch, could be part of lock jaw problem, had to wear sunglasses while navigating at night they were so bad. lots of topwater action from carp and drum, the cats that were caught had full bellies.

well just got back from another fishing excursion and i can finally report a descent night. fished with camochris till about 2:45 a.m. chris got a nice fat 10 pound channel, and i caught a 15 pound blue. i think we found out the secret to where they are scavenging now. lots of bites and hard hits but fish did not want to hold on to bait.

will be out hopefully again some time this week and for sure this weekend plus monday/tuesday.

Thanks for keeping us updated on how they're biting, can't wait to get back out there. After my last excursion at night, found out I need to modify my seat a little for more room to control the throttle and wheel, also need to change the small fish finder I currently have on and go back to an older sonar unit I used in North Dakota. fished friday night through morning till about 4 in the morning, ended up catching a 53 pound flathead less than a minute before i was gonna call it a night. its my new personal best, i would like to thank the two guys that helped me weigh it at the ramp and took pics. no digital camera can't put on here, thats the next item on my wishlist.

by the way the fish was released and swam away healthy.

practice catch and release on everything over 10 pounds.

just got home from plattsmouth fished till about midnight, i let the guy i was fishing with reel in all the fish we caught, which included couple channels, two drum, and a white shovelnose sturgeon. lots of bites no takers. bait included: cut bighead carp, goldeye, shad, and cut drum. the shad were thick in papillion creek between me and jake netting probably caught over a hundred shad not big but big enough for bait.

I tripled out on stinkbait don't know how i got em in without tangling biggest channel was about 2.5 pounds not big but fun. kind of fun to take a break from fishin for big fish. quit counting at 15 channels action was fast. all were caught on shad and stiinkbait. headed home at around 3 then started raining. should be headed out sunday night through monday night.

Was wondering about the clip on ball cap lights, which colors are best for night fishing? Just for tying hooks onto line, white, green, or blacklight? Going out after work in the mornning and try to find some new holes.

I haven't hit the river once this year, mostly jumping between Manawa, Prairie Rose (up by Harlan), and a farm pond. After going through this post though I think I might have to! Anyone know any good public access bank spots?? (still waiting for the right boat at the right price to come my )
On a side note, my week is pretty open til next monday so if anyone wants a fishing partner drop me a PM.

Good luck to all,
Bob

well got back from gavins point dam this weekend and am disapointed. i did not catch one cat this weekend, between me and 4 buddies we caught over 50 drum and a few carp, redhorse sucker, quillback, crappie, bluegill. we also caught some of them trash fish like largemouth and walleye and one northern. no skipjack what so ever. the river up their has almost no current and the gar are thick. could not seem to find many shad. i think the major prob. was i did not bring my boat. fished a total of 31 hours and always had a cat rod in. I even tried for small cats and nothing. hopefully will be out some this week and for sure next weekend.
