My wifes Grandparents used to have a place on the bay. Ol' Buford Brown.
Loved going down there as they had a dock that was GREAT for fishing for crappie and sand bass. Had all KINDS of lines out for cats.

Well, I went and took my Corrections Exam last week. I think at the most I might have missed 2 or 3, at the best I aced it. It was pretty easy, but I guess that score along with my veterans preference points will determine my rank on the merit list. Hopefully this week sometime I will get the results back and where I stand on the list too. Anyway, it sure was nice to be back in OK for a couple of days. It was humid, but it sure was a heck of lot cooler than Phoenix. Wish I could have stayed a while and went fishing but that will come soon enough hopefully.............

I don't know what prison yet Pat. Hoping for one of the Mcalester facilities but I really don't care that much. Which one are you at? Mcalester was my first choice but they wanted like eleven more choices and I basically listed all the counties in S.E. Oklahoma. Took my test last week and did fine. I am number 13 on the merit list, out of something like 267. I guess that is fine and hopefully it won't be long if they are hiring as many as they say. I will let you know when I find out anything else.

Lake Eufaula is a great fishing but it's in the middle of nothing. I do some business there and the boat dealers in McAlester and Eufaula are telling me that they have had a slow year. It's a great lake and a lot of pretty nice area's . I fished the lake several times and have had great luck. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the keystone gathering. :)

I guess the lake is looking pretty low there in Eufaula. I bet some of those boat ramps are unusable right now.
Eufaula Lake Affected by Drought
by Aimee Jordan, Eufaula Lake Office
As 2005 draws to a close, a topic which has garnered attention and concern is the low level of Eufaula Lake. The Corps of Engineers wants the public to know that the low levels are caused by drought not management decisions at the lake. According to the Oklahoma Climatological Survey, the past six months are the driest on record since 1921, when record-keeping began. Southeastern Oklahoma is more than 12 inches below the normal annual rainfall.
At this time, unless significant rainfall occurs, the lake will remain low. This situation is consistent across the region. In fact southeastern Oklahoma is experiencing a record drought.
As of December 1, 2005, the lake level was 578.89, more than six feet below normal. The following are historic low levels for Eufaula Lake:
575.06 19 Jan 1977
575.87 12 Oct 1972
576.08 28 Feb 1970
578.19 17 Sep 1970
578.63 6 Dec 1980

We are heading out to fish Eufaula this morning. Have no idea where we are heading too though as this is the first time I have fished it since I was a kid and the water is so dang low right now. I sure would like to hear some suggestions from you guys, especially the southern side of the lake as I am pretty unfamilar with all of it and prefer not to drive clear up to the north side when I don't know where I am going in the first place, lol. I am going to the Corrections Academy Monday, but I will have every Fri- Sun. off for the next 6 weeks so if any of you want to go fishing on the weekend give me a holler, pm me and I will send you my phone number. We don't have a boat though. I should have posted this a few days ago as my son ain't wanting to hang around here waiting for an answer, lol. I guess we will just head out and do a little scoutin' until we find a spot.

Hi All,
Sorta new to the site and fish Lake Eufaula alot.
I moved here 25 years ago from Illinois and have now got the "Catfish Bug"!
If any of you folks who fish Eufaula care to hook up or share "tales" write me back.
My place is over near the dam and am always ready to "wet a line" when I'm down there.

Hey Okie fish. I grew up on Lake Eufaula. what part of the lake do you live on would be my first question. The river side of the lake around Sam's Point (between Indianola and Canadian) is a great place to catfish. My best catfishing on Eufaula was fishing the river side of the Dam. Best freshwater fishing I have ever experienced in my life.

The dam is awesome. You can catch anything you want there. When I was 10 I got to fish next to Jimmy Houston on East wall...he was catching "crap-e" as he call's em. Him and his buddy filled up an ice chest full. We would catch the Blues and channels on Beef and chicken liver about 50 yards down river on bottom. we would always catch a few sandies and stripers (which I found odd). But my mom always used worms and she would catch just as many and a few flat heads. It is an excellent place to bowfish as well If you are into that. For the big cats it is best to get on the wall and float a perch or shad as far out as you can caste. You name...they catch it there (outside of trout). Spoon bill, Channels, flats, blues, stripers, crappie, sandies,...etc. For whatever reason the East side has always been the best for us....The west side is more accessible though. You can also launch a boat there...never tried it....but boy would I like to!!! I think you will do just fine....you reside near a great little fishing hole brother....good luck and let us know how you do!!!!

how about skipjack, ever caught any of those down there?
osageCo_flathead
01-10-2006, 09:34 PM
I'm not sure to tell you the truth? Do they look like a huge shad? I'll look up a pic of one and get back to you. I now live in Osage County (small town named Barnsdall) and only get back to the Eufaula Dam about 3-7 times a year. I like to get their in mid April for my first attempt and go several other times until around Aug-Sep...sometimes Oct in a year like this last one.

I did....just did not see a pic of one. But I found one online and to me it looked like a big shiner....cant really say if I've caught one there or not....most of the time I'm fishing for cats with the wrong type of bait for skip jacks! You fish the Arkansas around Tulsa much?

that dams loaded with skipjack at times. thats where the state record skip came from. its like webbers falls, if the waters running the skips are running..

I am definately up for a gathering at Lake Eufaula. As long as I am off work. We should get the ball rolling on this. I have 3 more weeks left at the correctional academy and then my 3 day weekends will be over with. I don't know what my schedule is going to look like when I get back to the prison, but as long as I have a day or two off every week I will be fishing at least one of those days. We are heading up to Eufaula tommorrow, just not sure where yet. Right now every Saturday is pretty much our fishing day, so gathering or not, if you just want to meet up somewhere and fish, give me a holler and see if we can't work something out. I don't have a boat, but if we don't get some rain soon I won't need one anyway, lol. Anyway, we ought to set some kind of tentative date and place for a little gathering. If only 3 of us show up, who cares, its just more fish for us I guess! I am gone mon-thurs every week right now without computer access, so if yall don't hear from me or I don't reply to a post, thats why. Later..........Jeremy

Where is the dam located on Eufaula? And how do I get there from McAlester? I was also wondering where "Rolling Oaks" is and how to get there also? I am still exploring the southern end of the lake here, but I am about ready to start venturing farther north. Sure be glad when we start getting some regular rain, as its getting hard to find bank fishing spots without sitting in the mud!

That sounds great Pat. The last three Saturdays we have just went to Crowder Point and except for one of the 2 days we have caught channels pretty much all day long. Just couldn't get out deep enough for the bigger ones though. Only two weeks to go at the Academy, and before you know it, it will be warming up too. Anyway, talk to you later, gotta head back to Wilburton pretty soon!

Hey Pat, or anyone that can answer my question, how do I get to the dam on Eufaula? Do I have to drive clear up and around the north side to get there or is there a closer way from McAlester? Thanks!
okiefish
02-10-2006, 09:44 AM
From Mac Alester you can go north on 69 then east on hiway 9, at the 4 way stop at enterprise you turn left(going north) the road goes right over the dam
TDawgNOk
02-10-2006, 09:47 AM
From what I can tell, the best way would be go up 69 to 9a, take it east to 71
and take 71 north to the dam. However, that is just from lookin at google earth
