My kids sure want to get back there so we don't have to drive an hour and a half to go fishing and of course they want to ride the tractor with grandpa and all of that good stuff that we have been missing out on down here in this city. Maybe next summer I will be making some of those gatherings yall are always having up there and I will get to meet some of ya. Take care.

I was checking out the threads this morning and saw this one and thought i would go ahead and introduce myself. Im Alan and am a resident of Enid Oklahoma . I moved to Oklahoma about 14 years ago and dident really get back into fishing until about four years ago .I guess I was spoiled growing up in Colorado fishing for trout and muskie and never really considerd catfishing as all that great ! boy was I wrong :o Ive had a couple of big cats hooked that just about scared me when there heads got out of the water LOL but unfortunetly I wasent rigged for them and the lines snapped but Im learning. If I dont have time to go to Salt Plains or Canton I fish the two small park lakes here in town and Believe it or not the fishing aint half bad caught me a 10lb channel out of meadow lake park on a worm a week ago and was so excited I forgot to take a pic when I got him home to skin him and fillet him out. the guy at the local bait shop dont believe me that I got one that big but my lady saw him and thats all that counts :-) next time the camera will be used . anyway im heading out this morning with the cast net ( Im relearing to use that also ) for some more Shad and small perch I have a couple of pounds in the freezer now and want some more for a trip to keystone when it cools down I hear the fishing off the Dam is great in late september . anyway keep the lines wet and good luck to all

just got back in from goverment springs park caught some nice 4 to six inch shad with the cast net and am itching to go fishing in the morning providing the weather dosent get to sour .actually i wish it was bad right now the lil lady is demanding the lawn be mowed lol

Docb, I am hoping to get up to Oolagah in Oct or Nov to try some cattin. Good luck in those waters.
Allan, My mom grew up in Douglas Oklahoma, used to visit my Gma out there all the time. Once in a while I still get out that way. Love the small town feel of Enid. Glad that Spring park is cleaned up enough to fish from. I remember back when I was a kid all that was there were snakes.

Welcome to the B.O.C. weatherbug. I ain't been through Enid in ages. I am sure it has changed quite a bit since the last time I was there. Had a good buddy in the Army from Enid by the name of Jimmie Chapman. Probably don't know him and he is probably still in, but you brung him to mind when I read you username as he was big into the weather and last time I seen him, he was trying to cross over into the Air Force as a meteorologist. Hey guys, I'm primarily a Kansas fisherman, but I venture down into Oklahoma fishing the Neosho and Spring rivers and also where they both pour into Grand Lake. Fishing is kinda slow here except for the strip pits we have here...but I have been hearing that there are blues being caught in the Neosho down around Miami, OK in the deeper water...the closer to the lake...the better it is what I'm hearing. Anbody here that can vouch for that? I have been resitricted somewhat by my lack of a worthy boat to head down quite as far down the Neosho or the spring as I'd like to. That will be changing by Feburary...or sooner if I can manage it. If I find the boat I want...a 16' x 48" (Minimum width - preferrably a little wider) all weld flat or mod.- v with a 25 hp or so outboard. (I need to keep down the weight of the rig in order to navigate the shallower sections of the Neosho where I primarily fish.) I'd like a 25 hp tiller model....but after I get the rig I want...my next purchase will be a Go- Devil type outboard (27 hp model) so's I can have the best of both worlds....a 25 hp prop motor for the deeper water when the water's up. and for the strip pits and the smallish local reservoirs we have here..and the Go-Devil for the shallow water conditions we experience on a regular basis around here on both the Spring and the Neosho. I'll be dangerous after that point....unstoppable...however you wish to put it.
Chris and Everitt!!! (CatfishCentral and Crossxsticks) Long time no see!! Sorry I've been away for so long....had some serious PC issues...along with some other issues we wont get into at this time....Lol. Sure wish I could have made it to Keystone 3 to meet yall...but it just wasnt in the cards this time....maybe Keystone 4....or even better....maybe we can get together before that and camp out for a day or two. I still believe we'd have a ball getting together on some weekend and drowning a few perch, shiners , or what have you...and sharing a few stories...cooking some great food on the grill, and frying up a few fish. (I still have plenty left) My schedule was so screwed up before working that weekend shift....now I'm on mon - friday overnite 3 rd shift...so it'd probably be much easier to arrange a get together. If interested...just let me know and we'll make plans to do so. Hope to hear from you or see yall soon! Take care!

Well if it ain't Mr. Stevens. I'm glad you made it back and doing some regular posting. I've always enjoyed reading your posts. Anyway we will have to get together for a little fishing sometime soon. Trying to get the house ready to paint next month :cursing: I'm not really looking forward to that but should be back in fishing mode when Oct comes around and a little cooler weather.
Catcaller
08-29-2005, 08:31 PM
Sounds great Chris...not the part about painting the house...but rather the getting together after it cools down a little. About the only fishing I've been doing is night fishing...I hate this hot weather more than I do the cold stuff! Let me know when you get the urge to get away and give the fish some hell. How do you like the new site? I'm still trying to acclimate to it myself, but at least it's better than no site at all! See ya soon buddy!
catfishcentral
08-30-2005, 11:56 AM
Oh come on don't you want to have the fun of painting a three story house? Thats the main reason I've put it off the last two years. Anyway I think the "new" site has a lot of nice options the other one didn't but if I had a choice I would still be on the old site. It was for me at least much easier to navagate though all the posts by simply clicking new messages. The option on this site makes it more time consuming to read posts that I'm interested in. The old site it was easy to scroll though all posts very quickly to see what I wanted to read. For instance I usually only follow the Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas threads on local state posts. I would sometimes look at other states when something caught my eye like a interesting post or lots or replys to a certain post. This new format makes it time consuming to look for those interesting posts that I would not normally look for.

I know just the hole you are talking about Loop. I've fished it from the bank and from a boat. Deepest spot I've seen on a locator anywhere near there. I figure it's really good when the water cools off. I've only fished it once or twice in the winter. Caught a flathead that was so lathargic from the cold it was like pulling dead weight. I'm almost within casting distance of Newkirk, know a couple of people that live there. We'll have to get together sometime. I just wish they would slow the release at the Dam. The lake is just pathetic between Coon and Bear.

Yes, I am that anxious to get out of Phoenix, lol. Anyway, thanks again, I will check Wackenhut out and see what they have to offer.

# 13 thats good i am sure you will get hired on really soon, over here at sill they have gate gaurds, i think they get something like 14/hour + overtime, i am not sure about that but i will ask one of my fellow co workers about it, hes was working at wackenhut but he got hired as a gate guard, the one thing that i dont like about the job is that they have to stand outside in all weather, checkinjg id cards for people coming onto fort sill, but forts sill's police hire gate guards to become police for sill and other bases in the sw, mostly military bases, some air forces

I have more questions than carter has little liver pills, I am just figuring out the bait deals (nope not an expert, yet) but I know that shad, sunnies, bacon, chitlins' and maybe even the kitchen sink as long as it stinks may get me a bite or 2. :D
When I fished in Maryland waters we used peeler crabs and soft crabs (kept on the hook with rubberbands) for almost all our cats, also rocks and blues, perch, etc.
Right now I need to know some places to go first, I have no boat so bank fishing is what I will be mostly doing. So if anyone has any spots that they can lead me to , please lead on. You have any tips to share I am willing to listen.
Moving here to rivers, reservoirs, private ponds and such is like fish shock to me, but I know I will get used to it.
I just wanna fish!!!!

It's been a while...I been keeping the blues busy down below L&D16. Got a nice 30-ish flathead last week and more blues from 3 to 20 pounds than I can count with my shoes off.
I really go there to fish for the skipjack herrings with an ultralite and jigs. They're a blast! After I get a few on ice, I'll pitch a head out for the blues and the skipjack fishing is over.
ahhh... retirement is wonderful!

We have skipjack in Oklahoma on the navigation channel below L&D 16???
Are they above L&D16, say, around landing 33 or the landing on old 66?
How do you catch them?

I grabbed up a map of Keystone online, and have just heard of Skiatook, was also informed that there are better maps to be had if you get them locally.
So this weekend BOC I will hopefully get my feet wet so to speak.
A couple of weekends to get use to Oklahoma fishing, and find more spots to fish and hopefully I will have some pics to post too.
Thanks alot BOC!

Oh, Welcome there Bearzski and Okiedragster. It's nice you have you guys join up. I look forward to your postings and fishing adventures.
Bearzski, I don't bank fish much anymore but you might want to try fishing the bridge at 31st and riverside, right there in Tulsa. It sometimes gets crowded but you can catch stripers, catfish, and just about everthing else down there. There also great fishing just about anywhere on the Arkansas in Tulsa, access is the only hard part. You will have to do some hiking but there's a couple guys around here that do very well in the Arkansas river around Tulsa. Also if I was stuck on shore below Keystone it usually productive and shad are always easy to catch down there.
Bearzski
09-20-2005, 08:48 PM
I made it to Keystone over the weekend, did not have much luck a couple of turtles, but that is not the point.
I enjoyed the fact that I was fishing again!
My 5 year old caught his first fish at Keystone over the weekend and several more after that, so now he is hooked. If catching a couple of sunnies will do that to him image if he catches a good size cat or carp.
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that helped point me to the fishing spots, the procuring of the correct bait and all the good advice.

Hey Dragster
You have a rail, a dootslammer or something else? I used to run a super pro bracket car, mainly at the now extinct Mid America Dragway in Ark City KS. Had a lot of fun but it just got too expensive. Spend a lot of money to go fast then a grand for electronics to slow it down. Double crossover delay boxes, two steps, throttle stops, you know the routine. Had a blast while I was doing it, even have a "Wally" on my mantle. Just writing about it is making me want to pull it out from under the car cover and get ready for spring.
TDaWG...
Don't forget to fish the early morn in trees with water turkeys roosting, when
you come to Oolagah.
Oct. is just about right.

Well if you are running super comp I'm sure you know all about the electronics required to be competitive any more. The Richardson boys (Scotty and Edmond both) showed up for a $5,000 to win, 12 second and quicker race in Ark City and were dialing 11.99 running in excess of 150 mph. Just crazy (and dangerous) in my opinion. Scotty took the money home by the way (as if that would be a surprise). At least I got a chance to race him even if he did take me out in the third round. Those guys are just ridiculously good.
I've still got both cars I'm going to attempt to attach pictures of but they've been mothballed for a while.
Have fun and be safe,

Been fishing oklahoma waters most of my 25 year old life. Im looking forward to any gatherings in the central part of the state. I usually fish the canadian and cimmaron rivers as well as their tributaries. Was fishing under the hefner bridge of the n. canadian the other day and some jerk stopped on top of the bridge and started throwing used diesel barrels into the river. Its a sad sight to that kind of disrespect going on. Anybody here ever fish beaver dams? Ive found that they usually hold a few good cats. Its alot of fun if you can tolerate the beaver making aggressive sounds at you from inside his den. Anyway, Ive got plenty more to talk about. I guess I just need to post in the relevant forums.

catfishcentral, heck I"ll come and get you and we can take the boat out. I also travel with my job and know what it's like to not to having your boat with you. Bank fishing, uhm.... hwy 70 west out of durant as you cross the long bridge at the end of that bridge on the north side of the road their is an area there that you can park and bank fish. It's 13.3 miles west from hwy 70/69 crossing. This area is called lake texhoma state park. I have fished this area before and caught some nice blues. Catfish Bay Marina is just across the street from this bank fishing area.
I know of some more but just can't think of them at the moment. Let me know when your coming down and I'll be more than happy to help you out. :)

I've been stretched pretty thin lately, but still getting to wet a line once in a while. My last trip was Saturday, the 22 of Oct. Lake Hefner has never been that good for me, but I got two channels for the freezer.

I am definately looking forward to 2006. Some changes are occuring in ACATS with the formation of local chapters in different states. ACATS will continue to grow in exposure and membership. Local tournaments will make access to some fun competition within reach of just about everyone while payouts at the Federation level are going to be very nice. Our Classic tournament at Sardis Lake in October will have cash and prizes in excess of $100,000. Gotta love that.

Fordman has consented to having an old fat man as a partner again this year on the ACATS circuit. We're gonna get a piece of that $100,000 payday at Sardis!
At the risk of causing a ripple, we're gonna kick some KING booty!

Albert, I wish you and Mike well this upcoming season. I too am going to be fishing ACATS this year. I just need to find a partner and redo my transom. I figure I am about 500$ away from having a reliable boat. I need to rebuild entire transom... hopefully the stringers are in good shape. New steering cables, and I need to get a used lower unit for a 1975 55 HP chrysler. It wouldn't hurt to redo the wiring from the control box to the motor. Now that I think about it ...... it is probally going to be a little bit over 500$. Maybe I can just hook up with someone who has a brand new boat for a partner. I thought of fishing with my buddy who is not a part of this site but his finances are not stable enough for him to make any comitments, and his boat is broke down.
Watch out for the rookies this year.... we will be coming strong. I have 100K cash in my sites and I am aiming for a new boat/motor and tow vehicle.
Thanks to Dennis and others who have dedicated their time and efforts into making ACATS sucsessful with sponsorship. As well as Mike who is dedicating alot of his time to being president of the OKACATS.
Thanks guys,
David Frantz
Mike ... give me a call when you have time to wet a line on a sunday.
