Well we went out this morning about daylite ,The first place we went we got alittle action ,But not the kinda action we were looking for, they were just pecking, we moved several times and I used one of whistler's bait distribution tricks and hooked into and lost what seemed like a fish of a life time, he hit and ran and I sit the hook and got to feel him for a minute or so then the line broke . We fished for about four hours total and then the wind started blowing and we threw the towel in, I reckon it will be awhile before I go catting again, I am on a mission to re"stock my bait suppy and when I do that I will head back out and see if I can catch me a bigun with my hook hanging out of his mouth,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Well, well, well...

Sounds like you guy's are having all the fun. Catch em while you can! All I'm looking forward to is getting back sateside and (timing permitting) seeing you all for the summer Flathead Night. I hope we can have one this year, and that I can be there for it. I know we got a bit skunked last year, but I had a great time meeting you all and hope to see you soon. Either way, some of you will definately hear from and possibly see me out there on mid tour leave. I just thought I'd give you a warning and time between now and then to get all your cattin in. I'll be putting a dent in them myself whenever i get back there. Until then keep posting pics and stories for the members away from the water. Happy holidays and God bless. See you soon.

I can't stand it anymore. I gotta go fishing this week for some skipjack at least since I'm nearly out of 'em. All the stores, shopping malls and Christmas stuff is giving me cabin fever.
I've been reading here that the skips are biting good on the Cumberland so maybe I can do some good at the New Johnsonville steam plant since it's alot closer to me.

I really have to do something because I'm going nuts around here. Wednesday sort of looks good with that little rain front moving in so wish me luck.

Hope you catch a bunch there. do you fish from the bank? Or form the boat for them at the steam plant? Also where is the best ramp when fishing there?
I may have to run up that way from Pickwick and try it out.

Hi ShilohRed,

Since the powerplant is now a potential terrorist target you have to fish by boat now. It used to be that you could walk in, but no more. And if you float in, don't get out on a bank or the TVA police will be right there on you (I got warned). It's probably that way down there at the Pickwick generating station too, huh?

There's a good public ramp right off Hwy 70 on the south side that puts you right on it since the steam plant is just north of the bridge anyway. And if you're coming from the west theres also a free ramp further south at camden landing and also pay ramp out of Eva which is just across the river and a little north of the plant. I haven't been to the one in Eva yet so I really don't know much about the place.

Of the three ramps I'd use the free one just east of the bridge and on the south side of 70. I couldn't remember the name of it now to save my life but you'll see it immediately when you get close to it. It's the closest one to the plant and has the best parking.

If you're going to be up this way gimmie a call sometime. I love catching them little Tennessee tarpon.

hey guys i just got back from fishing cumberland city the last 3 days
well had no current, wind,no fish, but the skipjack were in the steam plant so thick. every cast we got them. there were people fishing both sides of the bank but we were in boat out at the mouth.bet we caught 100 or so. heck one day we had no current was not catching any cats so we dropped anchor at the mouth and fished skippys rest of the day.i dont know whats up but everytime i come down there the river is down and no current i mean everytime.

Sounds like I need to get up there and fill the 150 QT cooler up.
Thanks for the info.
AT pickwick we can tie up to the dam . And people fish off the catwalk right at the face of the dam. There not keeping us away form it here.
I may give you a call and we can fish for skipjack and then try for a few blues.. :D

I never have fished there. But will do so more I hope.

hey guys we were catching them right at the mouth casting out into the river and we were rigged up like this had a 1/8 oz jighead with 2 inch white curly tail grub then below that we had a small silver spoon lure then at the bottom of the line we had a sinker to keep baits down .we would cast out count down to ten then reel lures in. sometime they liked a slow retrieve and sometimes fast try both.good luck let me know how you guys do. i had real good luck using the berkley gulp minnow grub white 2 pearl white.i dont know what berkley puts on them grubs its real slimy and after you stop using the grub it gets real hard and you got to put new one on. good luck guys
