We had a pretty good turnout considering we only had a few weeks to make it happen. The weather and river conditions were not the best I have seen. We had thirteen teams to show up which I thought was great, it takes a dedicated fisherman to fish in these conditions. We would like to thank them all for making our first tournament a good one for us at Kentucky A.C.A.T.S.
As you could imagine, I was a bit nervous at the start but, these guys made me feel a little more comfortable “knowing most of them helped”. Also having some great help from Dennis Rice was a plus. I would also like to thank Randy Kitchens for his help today as well.
It was a little brisk out on the river this morning with a temperature of, 28 degrees at launch time with winds out of the NW at 6mph at 7:00am. The Mighty Ohio River was running at 182,000cfs and at a level of, 22.07 (normal pool is at 13.5) and coming up on a slow rise. The river had risen to 22.6ft. and, the temperature had only gotten to 40 degrees and winds still at 6mph, by weigh-in time at 4:00pm.
The bite was tough today but fish were caught. The Baits that worked today were cut Skipjack and Shad on Carolina and Three-way rigs, fishing ledges near shallows and cuts.
With the limited amount of Teams in the tournament, we only paid out two places today, we paid (1) place for every (5) teams entered.
1st Place paid - $650.00
2nd Place paid - $390.00
Big Fish - $240.00
