President
Oklahoma City Chapter of ACATS
Battle Ground: Arcadia Lake
Arcadia Lake has a surface area of 1,820 acres and roughly 26 miles of shoreline.
Arcadia Lake was created in 1987 by an earthen dam on the Deep Fork River. The lake was created to control floods, create a water supply, and provide recreational resources.
This tournament will probably be remembered by all of the participants as the single most miserable tournament that they have fished in. The preceding three days were almost balmy for wintertime with temperatures in the mid 40's.
The morning of our tournament, an arctic type front moved through the area dropping the temperature into the upper 20's as we started the tournament. With the abundant atmospheric moisture available we cycled from drizzle, to sleet, then horizontal snow, which was quite heavy at times.
The winds moved back and forth from Northwest to Northeast at 15 to 20 mph with some gusts crossing the 25 MPH barrier. Seven brave teams fished with the Oklahoma City Chapter of ACATS for this event.
The cold front pushed the better fish into the deeper water where the winning team of Jerrod Lingle and Kent Hurst hooked up with the Big Fish of the tournament, a 16.15 pound Blue Cat. They were fishing along the dam, drifting with two socks at 1 mph or less and bouncing shad along the bottom in 30 feet of water.
Six passes along the dam yielded three blue catfish which combined for a total weight of 23.60 pounds. Jerrod and Kent drove in from Altus, Oklahoma, and joined ACATS on the morning of the tournament. This was the first time that they have fished with us.

The second place team of Arron Harrel and Earl Day chose a different tactic and anchored their boat is shallow water. Fishing a home made brain and cheese recipe stinkbait they brought in a full 7 fish stringer of channel cats which totaled 11.3 pounds. Their method involved slip corks and dip worms in an area of standing timber with depths ranging from 5 to 10 feet.

Third place was taken by Dustin Sipes and RC Coleman from the Sulpher, Oklahoma area. They brought in three channels which totaled 10.2 pounds. Dustin and RC fished with us last year and did quite well.
Four other teams were also in the tournament, including the author of this report. We are still trying to remove that scent of skunk that follows us around, having no fish to show for our efforts.
Cash Payout and Prizes
Big Fish paid a healthy $70.00
1st Place paid $200.00, A one gallon container of Danny Kings Punchbait for each member of the team, and a winning team hat embroidered with the Lake event and year.
2nd Place paid $80.00 and a tool set provided by the Oklahoma City branch of National Oak Distributors.
I want to thank everyone who braved the elements to come out to this event, either to fish or watch the Weigh In, and our Sponsors for this tournament, Danny Kings Punch Bait. A special thanks to Larry Davison for the help with the new leader-board, I deeply appreciate the use of your time and your nicely heated shop.
