Just picked it up today, 19 and 1/2 feet long, with a 50hp 4-Stroke Mercury motor. It's a really nice boat! They didn't have the right rod holders, so I'm going to order them off the Bass pro website, probably start out with about 10 of them.

Can't wait to take it out for the first time, still have to break-in the motor and stuff, but first we have to get registration on the boat. There are no open bait shops in the whole area right now, Wal-Mart wouldn't happen to do it would they???

Here are some pictures, they are not too great, but I will be taking more when I add some stuff.

Good luck with her! See you on the James? In VA you can get a temp. boat registration at wal-mart. It is good for 30 days.

Nice rig, keep us posted on she does.

Thanks, and I will keep y'all updated on how it does.

I got another Humminbird 525 fishfinder for it, they are not expensive and do a great job because that's what we have on our small boat. We got all of the required stuff of course. Two 30 pound anchors.

Only thing I wish we could get soon is a Trolling motor, but we just don't have the money to spend on one yet.

It's really more of a family boat than fishing boat, because we like our little 14ft Lund a lot for fishing, and the gas is better on the small boat. But, of course we will do a whole lot of catfishing out of the pontoon also, mostly in the Winter, and on rough days, and of course when we want to take other people fishing. Also plan on being guides in future years and we figure it will be perfect for that.

Yes, I will be on the James River for sure, don't know when yet. Thanks for the info on the Reg. I just checked the NC website and it didn't have them listed as doing Vessel Reg. but I don't know if they would list them if they only do temporary registration.

Ha ha, thanks Red. It's a brand new boat and motor. The boat is 2006, but the motor is 2004.

I have one just like it!!

Some advice. If it is a family boat, I would suggest getting some mats for the rear or from where you will be standing when you are fishing. You will really wear the carpet down in those areas and it helps with cat slim.

Zakk, sure looks nice, I know how you feel... as I got a new boat back a couple of years....
You'll have years of service from it.
One question, is the trailer set up for loading in a cross wind... do you have things on the inside of the pontoons to positon it when comming in?

Congrats on the new pontoon, it looks great. I was looking through my boat stuff and I got a temporary vessel registration, good til Mar 12 of this year, until I get my sticker. You could check with the NCWRC.

"...One question, is the trailer set up for loading in a cross wind..."

Great question! If you don't have them, put some on. A cross wind can be like hitting a moving target. I do know guys that have loaded and unloaded pontoons a lot and can do it like it is nothing.

I am not that good!

Thanks everyone for the replies.

About the rugs, thanks, I had already thought about it just for the catfish slime, but not about the carpet, I got a couple already.

And the trailer has things that look like they would guide it on there pretty much in the wind, but I'm not sure about it really.

The way it's set up, we will have to fish mostly off the front. The back has the couch thing and no room for fishing. We have a plan for anchoring just right though, we throw the river anchor off the middle of the back and tie it down, then drop the two 30lb anchors off the middle of each side to stop it from swaying in the wind.....I think it will work great, we will find out tommorow though.:cool2:

We've found a place to get it registered tommorow morning.

Jakk, just a thought..... one anchor off each side of the back. Set one, and then back over to the other side and then set the other. two is less than the three you mentioned, and leaves more room to work with out side anchors like you mentioned.

Katmaster Jr.
01-21-2007, 09:30 PM
I've thought about that, but I like the idea of the side anchors fishing on the lake because I believe the boat will sway on those windy days without some off the side. I guess the best thing we can do is to wait and experiment with different ideas. I know that on a river your idea is what we will do though.

This will certainly be a whole new thing for us after fishing out of the small boat so much, we will still use our 14ft a whole lot also though.

Thanks.

Thanks guys, we took it on the little river here today. It's awesome, just didn't have time to do anything but ride like 20 minutes, so got it partially broke in. Still got 40 minutes of only running it on half throttle, then an hour of running it on 3/4 throttle, and then finally from hour 3-10 we can run it however we want but can't run it on full throttle for more than 5 minutes at a time.

It's not too bad to load on and off the trailer. We just use a rope tied to the front to float it off the trailer, and then drive it on the trailer to load it, it's kind of hard to load it evenly though. You have to guide the pontoons right between a little slot on each side.

I hope to take it out somemore this week, if not, definitely this weekend, I really want to get it more broke in.

Zakk they make those poles you can add to your trailer that basically rub up against the pontoons to force it onto the runners. I don't have them, but my pontoon stays in the water, so I am not trailering it that much. If I was, I would add them.

Glad to hear you are breaking it in properly. Smart man.

Get you a big drift sock. Once you start drifting on it you will see that it is like a sailboat and will move very quickly in little wind.

Katmaster Jr.
01-23-2007, 10:01 PM
Thanks fella's.

Dieter, we are strongly thinking of getting a slip at the lake, so if we do we won't worry about adding the poles, but if not we will probably get the poles to help, because there wasn't even wind today and it was hard to guide, so I can only imagine what it's like at the lake boat ramp with wind.:ooooh:

It sure is a nice boat and motor, 4-stroke sure is a lot better, how is the gas mileage compared to a 2 stroke, it's suppose to be a lot better, I know that.

Oh, and also, we have two medium sized drift socks, I was thinking those two may do find, if not I will certainly buy one or two more in a big size....thanks for the reminder, because starting this summer we will definitely be drifting the bobbers on it.

Nice Rig Zakk. Congratulations. Take good care of her and she will return the favor. Last but not least, give that dad of yours a nice hug and tell him how much you appreciate him. He has obviously instilled a very nice sense of values in you, and placed you in a position to succeed in life. You are lucky to have him. We all enjoy your post and appreciate your enthusiasm for this sport. Keep the grades up, and never quit learning. Cuz

I'm also glad you enjoy my post, and I got my report card today as matter of fact, and all of my grades were good with the exception of U.S. History, and I still passed the class and all, but I could have done better though.

We took the boat out yesterday on the Chowan River, we couldn't catch any bait so just used nightcrawlers to see what would happen, we actually ended up catching small Blue Cats, so there must finally be some bigger ones nearby in there which is good for me since I live so close.

We really had a hard time loading it this time though, it always seems to go on the trailer wrong, the back of the pontoons are not on the guide things right. I guess that's why we should build the side guider things on it??
