Back to crappie fishing ! I spent the entire day yesterday out in the cold rain putting crappie sets in the lake. These thinns have been ready to go in the lake for several weeks(had nice weather during that time) and being the old duck hunter I am , I had to wait until the most miserable day in months came along to get out on the lake---go figure. If I catch pneumonia and die the location of those sets will go to my grave with me. :D

Are crappie sets your version of brushpiles/crappie condos?
Never heard that term before.

Good thinking.. See the bad weather let you have the water to your self. That way there was not a lot of people watching you put them out..
But it would be nice to see some pictures of what you put out.
I have been seting up 10 new 16 ft spider rigging rods for crappie..
Hope to finish them up today.

HEY WHITNEY
I belive i would keep them guessing for a while, you and folks from where
you and i are from speak in kentucky terms, and i thought everyone understood that!!! i bet they dont what getting another hog off the corn
means either.DONT want to hear any more of that going to the grave thing
at least tell SCHOE what it is before that day comes. :p

Gee guys---The "sets" are just 5 gallon buckets with cedar trees stuck in concrete in the bottom of the bucket. I usually put several in a single place--just scatter them out a little. The height of the tree varies with the depth of the water. The ones I put out this time were put on a drop off in 8 ft of water, that way when the lake comes up in the spring the "sets" will be in about 15ft of water and extend up about 7 feet. I use cedars that have shed their needles---it works for me. Last year there were over 500 keeper crappie taken off my boat dock "sets" by the ladies in the neighborhood. I put the ones intended for us guys out where the ladies cant find them. Here, the "keeper" size limit is 10" on crappie.

Nice, Something so simple saves a lot of butt bustin, I've cabled, tied, chained, and roped Christmas trees to concrete blocks and placed in various places but your method sounds a heck of a lot easier.

You also can just stick PVC pipe in the concrete in the bucket. Let it stick up as high as you need them to be.
Or if you would like to make some stumps. Just take 5 gallon buckets and go to a gravel bar on the lake. Fill each bucket about 1/3 full and drop. You have stumps and catch fish.

Earl cant help it Kirk. Get this--I asked him a few times to go fishing with me last summer--his reply:" Why? I get my fish at Long John Silvers". I fear he is a hopeless case.
My question is: Why would anyone buy a home on the waterfront and NOT fish? If all I wanted to do was just LOOK at water, it would be a hell of a lot less expensive to just purchase a fishbowl.

Just tell old EARL that i will give him a 30 gal aquarium, with water included,
and will decorate to suit, and a brand new WILLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON,
$1.00 bill ,for his place on the water, the $1.00 bill is priceless, and as your new neighbor,i wont start any fires while you are painting your deck.
