ibohunter - Thanks for the post! That's the 1st time I've heard anything about this fish! The Flathead record that was broken earlier in the year was made official in Sept.. That would be amazing to have it broken twice in one year after the old record stood for over twenty years! The 50# mark is coming soon, maybe in 2007!

Thanks Jim!!!

Blue Marsh is where the original Eastern PA flathead began. There are about 500,000 of his offspring in the Schuylkill River. His genes were passed sucessfully.

Eastern PA flatheads RULE!!!!

Unbelievable, great fish hope it holds up for the record. Two in one year is great. The fish being caught in December makes it even better. I think 50 will be broke at leat 3 times this year though. good luck to all Pa catfishermen and women this coming season.

That fish must have been disqualified because the new official state record is a little bit smaller, but came out the same lake.

The real state record was caught here they just never certified it. Monongahela river last summer. It was in papers all over the state.

Bucktail,

is there a link to this fish caught out of the Monongahela? I never heard of a state record pulled from there. All I saw was the one caught from the Ohio River that was certified, then the Blue Marsh cat that was caught then recently certified. As it stands now the state record is 48# 6 ounces

I think the 50# mark will be hit this year! The old record stood for over 20 years and then was broken twice last year and it wouldn't surprise me it see it broken several times this year! I hope it's one of us B.O.C. members that gets the next record!:cool2:

I used to believe in big cats, after many, many, nights and many, many, hours, and catching hundreds of cats, I slowly faded away believing that there are big catfish out there, but after getting ahold of some big fish and not being able to get them boatside, has me wondering..............under the right conditions, or just being lucky, I believe that they do certainly exist and they can be caught. That is one thing that keeps me interested and excited everytime I toss my bait out. The possibility is there. I have been around the Allegheny river all my life, it is full of mystery, would I bet my boat that a record fish has swam under my boat........yes I would......he is out there, laughing, with a hook and broken line in his mouth.........
