All you have to do here is check it in or have a game warden or police officer verify that it is a road kill. Technically, it is illegal to posses any part of a deer that you do not have a tag for. Most people throw their tags away after the season but I keep them. When I have a buck mounted I staple the tag to the back of the mount. An old neighbor of mine had all his antlers confiscated, even the legal ones, after someone turned him in for some hunting offense.

yes. in illinois a deer killed via car accident is legal. the laws state that the person involved has priority in possessing the deer. if they do not take possession before leaving the scene any citizen of illinois may possess and transport the deer.

if the deer is to be taken to a tanner or taxidermist a tag must be obtained fron the dnr. no inedible parts of a road kill may may be bartered or sold.

there is no limit to the number of deer that can be possessed in this manner. if the processing is done yourself or taken to a meat processor you are NOT required tp report it.

this came straight from the regulations manuel.

the fella that hit it didnt want it. he called the dnr and there is a tag for the animal.

THANKS FELLAS. i tried real hard to get this one looking good. i plan on becomeing a full liscensed taxidermist in 2007. this is practice work. i cannot charge for work until i become liscensed. i can only do my own and family free of charge. i got my law book from the dnr a couple weeks ago and spoke with an officer in springfield. im staying legal.

yep. that is where this tag is. on the back. that is the easiest way of staying legal. keep the tag with them. in the law it says the tag cannot be discarded untill it is in the possession of the owner. but still, its simple to attach it to the back.

unfourtunatly no. my uncle is a paranoid scitzo. he called it in and i called the idnr about mounting animals for others without a liscense. and was told as long as i was doing my own or for friends and fam and not charging i didnt need one. all legal. he says it aint leaving the house. he once said hed never hunt from a ground blind cause someone could walk up behind youn and shoot ya in the back and you would never see em coming. i just shake my head. he also uses tree stsnds but puts chains on em cause he says someone could cut your straps 1/2 way so you would fall when ya get into them. only thing i can figure is he has lots of nightmares. i wanted to have it scored, he said no way. i rough scored it in the mid 180 class while mounting. but i aint a pro at that.
