Wow, Rev! I also am impressed by this declaration from you. Sorry the 'Boys haven't done well this year, but boy, those Saints have been awesome! I'll admit, we hadn't watched much football the past few years, but Carmen got us started watching it again. There've been some really good games so far!

Ty, I just wanted to say I am sorry about talking about your boys. I did not mean anything I said. I sure felt bad after reading your post. I mean you were so nice about it and all. Sorry from the bottom of my heart. Now if we have a Saint's SupperBowl Party, are you and Debbie going to come?????

Nice to meet you Mike. We have local tourneys here amoung our group. Well so far we have had two. They were warm up tourneys for when a man wins it, because so far both have been won by women. Roxie first and Carmen took the second one. Eric and Buddy may not be able to catch any fish, but they sure can guide well.

i heard thru the grapevine that reeves marine will be having another catfish tourney this march, first prize is a boat.. i ordered one of those 220 pound digital scales thru the BOC last week and it came yesterday, i am very impressed with it.. its extremely heavy duty , with lighted large numbers and it also has a temperature gage for those cold days out there perch fishing..lol, i have been wanting to get out on the river for a month now but one thing after another has kept me in dry dock, this weekend i am leavin town to see my mom, maybe next week i will get my chance, in the meantime i have been reorganizing tackle and and all my support goods, i have a big dry storage box in the boat that holds everything i can think of that i might need on the water, but it was total chaos in it, i boughta couple of duffle bags with all kinds of pockets and pouches in them and now i can actually find everything again.. i still havent installed the new speakers for the radio yet.. but thats coming soon and i also found a couple of rod holders on clearance at wally world, they are the flush mounted type for the front deck, they should make the perch fishin a lot easier.. happy new year to everyone,

Well I am still catching cats. Bob Cats that is. I had another nice tom this morning along with 1 coon. Yesterday I took 3 gray fox and a coyote. Michael went with me yesterday and we had a blast. He like catching the fox. I hope to maintain this line for the week and pull it on the New Years Eve or Day. Just have to see how it all works out. I will take some pics and show yall all the fur put up. It is cool looking put up.

Welcome to the site Mike, The tournaments that are spoken of are kinda like friends (Local Rednecks) that just get together ta have a good time Kinda like a small Ba$$ club (Did I say that?) would have....Mostly just fun and fellowship.....Not the kind that would get cha a spot ta a national Catfish champship....(I.E. Ba$$ master classic) but a lotta fun and one heck of a trophy......a little cash and a whole lotta braggin right's just ask the Lady's ( Soon ta change) Far as the op's go ask the resident expert "Sarg"..... all the op's I catch are caught on either live shad or dead one's drifting.....I really don't target them (YET...) Once again Welcoome aboard........

In the last 3 years i have landed over 60 ops on the red river. all on rod and reel. only one bit live bait, all the rest took fresh shad heads.. the one on live bait took an 8 inch live shad,he weighed 45 pounds.. theres a lot of ops in the red river to be sure.. but for whatever reason , i hardly ever catch any of them north of the jimmy davis bridge ..but thats not to say they arent up here because the state record came right here in town by the railroad bridge and i believe the big one sgt rob got on trotline earlier this year was north of town too....

Badbob you stand corrected. Rob caught that big op in Plain Dealing La north of the Hwy 2 bridge. It came out of the deep hole at the power line just south of the horseshoe lake on the west side of the river. The water had and eddie right there so Rob had to run his line up stream. He was baiting with 2 lbs Hybrid German worms on a 12 alt gartor hook fishing in the deepest part of the hole. 5-10 foot of water. He tied off to that big stump that use to be at the end of the eddie and he anchored the line with a 350 engine block.(little trick I showed him for them biggens) He used the 327 heads for the center weights as it took to of them cause he was running 150 hooks on one line. It is a long eddie. I would have helped him, but do you know how long it took him to put all those German worms on? Plus they were still mad about the break up of the USSR and the fall of the Burlin wall.

Okay I told Eric I would put some pics of the fur up, so here is what it looks like when it is ready for sale. I finished all the coons that Eric and I caught on the river back in Nov. I have taken all of the fox in the past week and half after getting myself lined out on what I was suppose to be doing.

Mandisue, you can talk David into trapping you some fur and having you a coat made at US Fox. when you open the door, yes the smell of drying fur will knock you down. I love the smell, my wife hates it. I have to strip on the back pourch before coming after a long night in the fur shed.

Rob I have not thought about that. I sure hope that one pic is deleted. I saw Charles wife the other day, and I know I was red in the face. She is the one that made the statement about about the pic.

Carmen I caught one big bore coon, one silver fox(better known as a possum) and on crow. Bad night, good sets. I did have a fox do the jetter bug around a set, but he did to get his bug jettered. I hope to have a good run in the morning, will have to see. With the rain moving in, I may loss them all Friday night. I am trying to find where I am going to move next now. I have not made rock solid plans yet.

Well, since nobody's been fishing in awhile I thought I'd go out and represent us as a group. The wind was bad, the bite was slow to non-existent but I managed to come back with 2 good sized blues. The bigger of the two is 5 pounds. I did catch a cypress trout. I hardly ever catch them and the first time I did I almost stuck my finger in his mouth to lip him until I saw the teeth. Anyways, here's a couple of pics of the bowfin and a little info on them. They're weird fish. If you look closely at the pics you can see the green fins they describe below.

"The bowfin is a primitive type fish and the sole representative of an ancient fish family dating from the Jurassic period, appx. 180 million years ago.

Although the bowfin's body feels smooth and leathery, it is actually covered with cycloid scales, which are smooth and have no ctenii or rough prickles like some of the other fishes.

Body color of the bowfin is dark olive above with lighter sides and cream-colored belly. The long dorsal fin is dark green with a narrow longitudinal olive-colored band near the top margin and another near the base. The males have a dark spot on the caudal fin, bordered with yellow or orange. Lower fins are green, vivid as fresh paint, during the breeding season. There are 66 to 68 scales in the lateral line. The dorsal fin contains 47 to 5l soft rays and the anal fin 9 or l0 rays. The head is more or less flattened on top and the mouth is large. The teeth are sharp and strongly set in the jaws. Weights of 6 to 8 pounds or more are commonly attained. The swim bladder serves as a lung, giving the bowfin air breathing capability".

Welcome Porkchop,

The area above and below L&D #4 looks like some pretty good catfishing waters. I drive by it once a week in the spring, summer, and fall. About every 2 or 3 trips I turn and drive to the lock and I've never seen a person fishing from the bank or anything. I've never even passed anyone on the road to get to the lock and it's got to be 3-4 miles long. I always come from the HWY 1 side.

What do you do there and does anyone snag or tightline at that lock like they do here in Shreveport/Bossier?

I have eaten them from time to time over the years (my grand father showing me how to survive in a depression)the fishing was kinda slim . It reminds me alot like gar it is best when served hot, and is almost as difficult to clean.

My Grandpa ate 'em as a kid. He told me that you can not use water to wash the meat off when you clean them. They had to wipe the filets off with a rag when they cleaned them. Okay let me see if get this, when you badger the ladies who won the fishing tourney, did you consider that humor. Oh, no it must have been when you talked about how dumb my Partner Rob was and the stupid stuff he did. Or was it humor when you talked about how we mess this site talking to much BS. Maybe the humor was in the fact you wanted everyone to know that you are one of the oldest members on this site. You see I find the humor in the fact that I do not have to belittle other to make myself feel good. I come in here to see friends, good friends, not to boost how I feel about myself. But you are right, I guess I do not fit into the “intelligent people” group. For that, I could care less about, because you see there are lots of intelligent people on this site that call me friend. In fact, there are quite a few who would call me for anything they needed. You know, none of them ever worried about how smart I am. That is my intelligent thought of the day. Dang that wore me out using the brain so much this early.

Oh and if any of yall need call on me today, wait till after lunch. It is going to take me a while to recover.

all i am going to say right now is this:

just because you are an "older" member does not mean you can pull a rank or make you any better....you could be a founding member and not have done anything or you could be a new member and done a lot ....length of time does not count in my book....it is what you have DONE.

Then all the sudden, Myra decides its about time for a new SUV and WHAM!!! PRESTO!!! THANGS IS HAPPENIN' REAL FAST!! One minute your ridin' in that old Durango and the next minute, Myra is stylin' in a new one!!!! What happened????? Did ya loose your book? Sounds like your whooped to me!!!!:haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:

Ram tough. That is too cool. Maybe one of these days I can get a new truck. All Amy lacks is 6 more weeks and she will be out of school with a degree. Then she has to find a job. Then we have to get her a new car cause she has racked up the miles on hers.

what is she studying? i am really considering going back to school to get my degree.....one day....

Myra: Sweetie?
Me: Yea woman.
Myra: I shore would like...
Me: Excuse me.
Myra: Sorry. I mean, Mr. Kevin I shore would like a new truck if it's ok with you.
Me: I'll think about it.
Myra: I know you work hard and you are the master of the house and all, I would get a second job if you need to take off sometimes for fishing and hunting. Just tell me ......

Or something like that.:tounge_out:

"Men who do more housework and child care have better sex lives and happier marriages than others according to noted marital researcher Dr. John Gottman."

Dr. Gottman needs a refresher on cause and effect.

I wonder where this guy his degree (in the back of the feed store is my guess) cause there is ads for "Save your marriage" and "stop divorce now" and "Learn how to cheat". See the good Doctor's line of thought. Anymore "expert" witnesses?
