Ole Dave and I tried bankfishing at Oalkland mills yesterday afternoon.
The rivers down and not much water in the area we were fishin.
3 hours without even a bite. We were using fresh chicken livers
Noticed 6 fishermen below the dam jagging for carp. Dunno if they caught anything.
I put the boat away for the winter last week so we didn't have access to some of the deeper holes.
I did try the deep water just above the dam. Fished from the old bridge in the park so I had access to the entire width of the river.

Oh well it was a great day to be outside.

I lived in Monticello and fished the Waspi & Maquoketa for 6 years. Man there is some great fishing in places up there. My buddy fished the Skunk and the Iowa river and did really good. I never really targeted cats in the winter but as soon as ice goes out I would tear then up in the small ponds and lakes around there. Caught lots of Bass that time of year too. I spent Sept- Jan hunting.

The bite is pretty slow, but they will bite if you can find them in thier wintering holes. Try using medium sized minnows that's what I've been catching them on through the ice.
