I was sitting in the woods by 6am this morning. I put out some deer scent when i got there and cover sent. Been sitting all morning watching squirrels. I been there for now 3 hours and decide i was going to leave around 10:00am while i was watch them dang squirrels and i heard something little after 9am about 200 yard off and i saw him coming. pull up the gun and looked threw the scope and sure enough its a buck coming.Now the my heart starts beating 500 times fast and i start getting my self ready for a shot then he disappears so i grabbed my premo deer call in the can let it ring out a few time then i look and he is coming straight at me up the road. I put the cross hair on his chest he got with in 30 yards and i decide i had to shoot. I shoot he runs about yards and falls dead. I call my neighbor and my wife tell them and neighbor comes and helps.Get home and my brother calls which lives 3 hours away and say he just shoot one calls back and he as killed a 4 point 1st buck every for him. Man the 30.06 made that deers shoulder look like grounded up hamburger meat.

Thanks for the story Brother, I enjoyed it. My buddy called just before dark and told me about a nice 7 point he got. Now go out and get another one. The last picture was real good.

My first deer (and only buck) was a fork horn. I cant eat antler but I'll tell ya what. those young deer are nice and tender. and if you need a suggestion for some venison loin. wrap it in bacon & put it on the bbq grill with some hickory chips. cook till bacon is done. TRUST ME........... you'll never have tenderloin any other way!! :003:

Tks for the tip on fixing it. Cant kill another till next month and only a doe then. 1 buck 1 doe here and cant kill a doe with high power.

Congrats on your buck, and your new 30.06. Your previous thread (aboout the 7mag or the 30.06) is helping me want to get back into hunting. And with a new Cabelas opening up just down the road from me (literally), I actually picked up a rifle for the first time in years yesterday.

That is a nice deer, A trophy is what you want it to be, don't let anybody tell you different. i have had trophys be anything from a little button buck all the way up to my 10 pointer. any deer is a trophy.

This was my first of the year. Basket rack, 9 pointer. If I am at home long enough, hopefully I will get a couple more. Took this one with blackpowder. Gonna put that down now, pick up the bow, learn how to bow hunt first. Plenty of meat in the freezer now. Hunting is a blast, regardless whether you get something or not. Don't you hate those decisions on Friday, go hunting or go fishing on Saturday.:crazy: Either way you go, you won't go wrong. Congrats on your deer.

I like it alot No Problem so far and its had 21 shots fired threw it to get it good and warmed up.

Theres no way Id want to take three bucks out of here or anywhere, seems like it would hurt the buck ratio? I think our one buck rule is helping to produce some monsters.

I did some looking seeing that they want us to take a lot of does compared to other counties, and my county has an estimated 15 deer per square mile while other counties have over 50. No wonder Im lucky to see 10 deer a year. May not take as many does next year, taken 3 so far and might have to travel out of county to get one more, just finished off the third one.:hungry: :hungry:
