Low Water Ramps

Any of you guys know which ramps are my best bet with low water on the MO? I usually put in at Leavenworth, but this weekend the ramp was clear out of the water. Kaw point looked OK, saw a couple of boats in the water, but I don't really want to fish downtown. Maybe St. Joe?

Try Athison they have 2 ramps both are ok to use Jim C.

The boat ramp in Riverfront park is in great shape, it's on riverfront road just south of the Chouteau bridge off 210 hwy, just take the road that goes around behind the bridge and it's right there - I know it's not in the area you are lookin but hey it's a way on the river :)

I agree the ramps here in Atchison are still usable. Although I'm not sure there are many cats left in the Atchison area. :confused: Its been quite awhile since I have seen what one looks like. LOL

You can put in at kaw point and do the 25-30 min. boat ride to leavenworth. The parkville area is also good fishing around the 435 bridge. Also the fishing around the casions downtown is some great fishing too. The other boat ramps in kansas city close at midnight so x-o on them at night.

Thanks, guys. I may try one of the ones downtown (choteau or Kaw) just for the fun of taking a boat tour through downtown.

Josh, thanks for the directions to Kaw point the other night. I went down there the next day and checked it out.

Yeah, your directions were on the money. No worries about the ramps closing at midnight, it's just about too chilly for me at night, especially if I have to do much travelling.

stolib You might want to rethink fishing downtown, I launch at kaw point all the time and have had pretty good luck as of late. Mainly fishing the kaw river. The Flattie in My avatar ws caught 2 weeks ago on the kaw. water went way down last week and my luck followed it, all we could muster was one twenty lber. before that the fishing was pretty darned good. the river should come back up with the rain were getting tonight and thursday so I'm pretty jazzed about this weekend. I have pics posted in the kansas river thread of the fish weve caught this month.

Did you guys see the 57lb flathead that made Abcnew.com? It had a little video clip devoted to it. I saw it and thought about all the bigger ones that B.O.C. members catch all the time. The kid who caught it was gonna kill it and according to the lady who reported on it "throw it on the grill". lakeith, I saw that. He said he was going to put it in some grease or something. It's a shame that people think a 57lb fish is worth making the paper. They just need to check out this website and everyone that fishes for big cats a lot.

Thanks for the head's up, Brad. I think I'll put in at either Kaw Pt. or Choteau tomorrow, depending on the weather. I'm sure the fishing is pretty good, I just like to be in the middle of nowhere. Course if the fish are biting, I dont' really care where I'm at... :) Never had a boat on the Kaw, is there anything special I need to watch out for that's different than the MO?

Yeah.. The Kaw is a dirty nasty river.. and real shallow. It also has a lot more metal in the water so you just want to watch your self. Early in the summer I was up by the first big tube up from the mouth. The water coming out of the tube was toilet bowl cleaner blue. Now that being said there are fish in the Kaw but I would skip it and head to the Mo. the channel is more recognizable anyways. Heads up there dredging right now by the highway 71 bridge on the upstream side.

Thanks. Kept getting called back to work today because we had an alarm problem, but hopefully I'll get out tomorrow. I can't believe how low the river is. I was up at Weston Bend today fishing from the bank with my son and man, there were sandbars I hadn't seen all summer out of the water. Got one pole baited and work called before I even had a chance to cast it.

yeah Crazy, there is alot of junk in the kaw but it is also better flathead water then the mo. i've had pretty good luck on the kaw, but have also tweaked a prop in the process. if you navigate it slow and use a lil common sense you should be fine. all that stuff in the water makes for good flathead cover. also anything that flows into the kaw goes right down stream into the mo. did that water yhat was toilet blue did it have any odor to it?? there is a fungus that cdan grow in rivers that turns the h2o blue and stinks like chemicals.

No the blue water was not algae. It was some kind of dye or liquid. I'm not going to say that the kaw does not have better flathead cover for the kansas city area. But once you get up past parkville the river starts changing. I'll put it like this there are not many if any dikes i have not fished from leavenworth all the way to Harris casino. That's about 34 river miles according to my map. The summer is long and I like to fish.

oh yea ...no doubt the summer is long, I was out last night Brrrrrrrr.....not even one clicker run. Anyway, come to think about it a buddy And I were at the same tube You were talkin about and the water comin out was awfuly dark colored. Darker then We thought it should be. Hmmmmm... guess maybe there's some pollution comin from somewhere. shouldn't be much of a surprise considering the history of pollutants in the Kaw. Is a shame if thats whats happening. 34 miles of river, thats a lot of fishing brother!!! whats your biggest this Year???

I was thinking we could put in at lexington there are some good bends up there and i have caught some good blues thi time of year there.it will also be closer for you you can come down 10 to richmond and take 13 south take the first exit after mo, bridge go west into lexington i forgot what street name is for the ramp but we can meet at mcdonlds in lexington

we can add kaw point to the list of ramps where there's not enugh water to use. couldn't get my boat back out there sun. morning. Had to take out at riverside park plenty of water there for the time being. good luck all
