Hey Chuck,
My name is Curtis. I hope things are going as well as can be expected for you. I am interested in fishing LL with you. I have a boat I've been working on for the summer, and it's got lots of room.
Do you know where to catch shad on the lake? I've got a 50 gallon bait tank that needs some use.

catfishmomma, ive been fishing the barge for sometime now only got 2 cats from there. hows your luck been? i dont think there is any cats around there well not for $7.00 to get in and $3.50 a pole. been hearing that some big cats are being caught down at lake park right next to the dam and it only cost you 3 bucks to get
Catfishmomma
12-13-2005, 02:27 AM
Hey James,
yeah I know what you mean....the cost of going to the barge is 7.00 a pop, but the extra poles only cost 1.00. A dozen of minnows only 1.75.
This past weekend, I only caught 2 1lbs. But the weekend before I caught 9 cats, so that wasn't too bad. I am heading over there again this Sunday. I usually go on Saturdays, but my son is helping in the boy scouts and he goes with me also my daughter. Unfortunally, my husband doesn't care to fish, but loves to eat it. Ha!
I don't know how to get to the lake park by the dam tho. That price sounds really good to me. If you don't mind telling me how to get there I would really appreciate it.
The water at the barge has really gone down quite a bit.

i never paid attenion to the name of the park ive just heard it called lake park but anyways when you are leaveing the barge take your first left go threw the frisbie golf course and it should end up at a stop sign and you should see the park entrace infront of you not too sure on the price during the day i stay over night and the guy only charges me 3 bucks and also if you live in lewisville you get in cheaper. there is also another park at the spillway thats really good right down the road on mill its the LLELA park UNT runs it they are open friday-sunday 7 to 7 only 3 bucks to get in. to get there just take mill street south like you would be heading to 121 go about a mile i think its the first stop light you will come to take a left on jones street and go all the way tell it ends. not much being caught at the spillway right now but lots of big buffalos to catch come spring time the big blues will be heading up the river and pile up at the spillway ive caught alot of 5-10# and one 15# lost some bigger ones just last spring been alot bigger ones caught i think the record last year was 55

I think the last time I went towards the park area it cost 10.00, not too sure tho...I live in Irving, so my luck they would charge me the full price Ha!
I sure do thank you for the directions......I plan on fishing this Sunday since the kids are out for the holiday.

Also James,
What bait do you use anyway? Just curious....and again thanks for the information.

well i think the price to get in really depends on what time of day and who is working the gate. i use mainly live shad and cutbait there is two docks at the park too dont think you are allowed to fish from them but good place to get shad at night at the first dock there is sevral crappie sets right below the dock never seen anyone catching any. i uselly follow the main park road all the way to the last parking area (closes to the dam) had a friend get a 30# blue few weeks ago on big live minnow another guy got a 20# blue a week ago off cut bait there is also another place that you can fish for free near the barge. when you are leaveing the barge take that left and when you come to the frisbie golf carse park on the side of the road i like fishing near the big rocks that are all together dip bait is what uselly works down there

I live in Corinth. Lewisville is a great lake to fish. I have really started to get into the catfishing this year. I have had some pretty good luck. I'm still learning something new everytime I go out. We can hook up and go fishing one of these days. Most of the time seems like I fish solo so I have a backseat open. Gook luck

I haven't hardly caught any crappie this past year don't know whats going on. Anyway I sure do thank you for all the information you've given to me. I plan on going fishing tomorrow, (sunday). I am looking forward to heading to those areas. I have not caught any blues that large in my life. Sure would be great if I did tomorrow, anyway maybe we will run into each other. Never know.

well if you would like to catch some big blues head to the spillway around July get there early on a Friday morn use some big chunks of chicken livers or 4 to 5 inch breams better have a heavy duty pole and reel you might catch a 5# fish that will fight like a 20 pound fish when he gets in that current seen alot of poles get snaped inhalf from fish down there. i havent been crappie fishing much heard that they are really picking up at the barge friend told me last wedsday he got 15 nice size ones said they all came out of the crack. you wont every see me there on the weekend way too many people i usely go mondays or tuesdays i usely stay from 10 at night tell mid morn. you wouldnt happen to be that ladie i seen a couple months ago that caught that 8# carp out of the carp well would you?

There are plenty of free bank fishing opportunities on the North end of the lake around Big Sandy and Arrowhead. With the water so low you can walk the banks and get access to deeper water. Take a surf rod!
I have seen people catching fish from the banks for the last few weeks while I am out with clients.

James,
Nope, I haven't caught a carp, two times I have caught a buffalo tho out of the carp well. I would love to go during the week, but we only have one car and my hubby takes it to work, plus with the kids in school. So that's why I only fish during the weekends. I usually go Saturdays reasons of the kids. I get there around 1:30 or 2:00 and get home around 4:00am.
Went to those places you told me about and the park is 10.00. Wow-the price is crazy for people who don't live in Lewisville. Paid 6.00 at the other one, it's a nice area---When I have more time will try it again.

Hey Chuck,
Hope you do well with your treatments. I have fished LL with my ex-brother in law a time or three. Would be glad to come hook up with you sometime or would be glad for you to come out to Lake Fork and I will take you out here and show you some fish. I fish out of a 18ft Falcon Stripper Pro with a 175 merc. Fish mostly live bait or Benny Robert's Sure Shot Punchbait. He was the brother in law, lol. Give me a call, 903-473-3747. I am always looking for someone to fish with. I am going in the morning and Friday if anyone wants to go. Got a full boat on Saturday.

Yeah, I was surprised myself, but it was posted there on the park area next to the barge. It was a woman there and at the other place it was an elderly man and looked like he meant business. It costs me 6.00 because I took my son with me there. And nope we didn't catch anything...must have gone at a wrong time the week before Christmas. Shoot, the guy just got mad because he hadn't caught any fish and said that you jenks him. Poor fella, anyway I sounds like a good idea about us fishing. My son adores fishing just about as much as I do. I heading out fishing tomorrow, Friday. My husband bought me a map of the lewisville lake so I have been studying it.

i really like the LLELA park im usely by my self or just a couple other regulars everone gets along. and a year pass is only 30 bucks and its only 8 miles from my place. only thing is that when you catch a big fish you have to climb the rocks to get it. really got to watch out about fallin in i slipped once while tryin for some shad with my cast net and the gates where running i almost ended up south of 121. someone sent me this link to a site that has aerial pictures of the dallas area really good for finding fishing spots around DFW you can zoom in and zoom out move it all around with the little yellow arrows. heres a shot of the spillway http://www.dfwmaps.com./index.asp?ExtentLeft=2438740&ExtentRight=2439146&ExtentTop=7075077.07087435&ExtentBottom=7074671.02112565&idCmd=&buffer=&x1=&x2=&y1=&y2=&tool=&click.x=&click.y=&product=&Requests=on&selectpt.x=0&selectpt.y=0&selectpt.stat=none&Address=&CityZip=&Label=&Aerial05=on&Cmd=ZoomIn&msize=large&mapTheme=dfwmaps&mapOption=Regional_Features&N.x=247&N.y=4

Big Sandy is on the West side of the lake furthest ramp north on the old lake (ramp is closed but you can fish the bank areas).
Arrowheaed is also on the west side and south of Big Sandy. Look at the TPW map for locations and directions.
People are also bank fishing the North Bank West of the Old Hatchery right now with the water down. Surf rods in any of these areas allow access to deeper water.
Warm weather has scattered the fish some and made them move this week. I fished clients the last 6 days and amd sick and tired of burning up on the water. I love winter fishing because it is good and cold. This week sure aint been winter fishing. Fishing most of the week in shorts and t-shirt.
I try to keep current fishing reports on all the lakes I fish on my website but cannot post it here. If you would like some information feel free to PM me

James, have you tried Danny Kings Blood Punch Bait? I use it always and end up catching cats. Small and big. I plan on heading over to the spillway (LLELA area) tomorrow myself. Son is going to Witchita Wildlife in Oklahoma with the Boy Scouts. So my fishing buddy won't be with me. Maybe there will be good luck over there.

I was going to try and get there early Saturday, but ended up getting there around 3:00pm. Daughter had to be taken to the doctor and of course had to get son ready for scouts. Went to the barge around 5:00pm. Had a couple of good bites at the spillway, but no takers. I don't know the person name, but Sunday, went again, told me that they were going to let the lake out 10 feet at the spillway. Asked him, when were they planning on doing this, and all he told me was soon. Hopefully this Saturday I get over there earlier and try to get some cats.

This is false information. The rumor that has been going around is that they are lowering the overall level of the lake 10 feet to build the bridge that will run across the old lake and this is FALSE information according to USACOE and TPW the lake will NOT be lowered. The only reason the lake is low is because lack of rain and it will not be lowered further for building purposes. The area in which they will build the bridge has water depths at the deepest part of about 28 feet right now so lowering the lake even 10 feet more would have no effect.

Lower the lake??? Was the guy with the water supply people?? I also think this is BS man if they lower the lake anymore they wont need a bridge. Virgina told me that theres been a guy catchin stringers full, If this is true then they must be fishing down at the railroad bridge. Way to far of a walk for me, but it is a good place to fish lots of overgrown brush that you have to walk through. As for the barge i wont be going back for a long time i havent gotten a bite there in so long just a waste of money to me. heading out tomorrow sometime going to fish off fairway rd where it crosses the dam on lake grapevine. going to be right next to the tower off the west side of the road. havent been there to try it in a while. might head back to the spillway this weekend either friday or saturday going to fish for those big buffalos that are stacked up in there. maybe this time we will meet

To be honest, I glad of it. I started thinking and in my point of view I thought they only did that when the lake was too high. At least that's what they do over at Lake Altus, in Altus, Oklahoma.

We just might meet. I haven't headed over to Grapevine, although I should. The kids like Lewisville, so I just go there over to the spillway. It will be Saturday for that. I caught some crappie over at the barge last weekend. Two Cats, one was about 1 pound the other 2llbs. That was it! No more bites after that. Pretty sad.

Yeah I know, the cost is pretty expensive isn't it? One of the cats I caught was by the cleaning stall area and the other I caught in the front of the door going inside of the barge. It's so bad over there now, I keep expecting to see the barge on dry land. In the carp well I have been catching just small ones, about the size of my hand. I've been thinking about heading over to Grapevine--also i've been thinking about Flower Mound also. I will look up the directions to head over to muller park. I'll need to get a map of the Grapevine Lake area also. Thanks for the information too James. You are a true blue friend.

Hey Guys, (& gals), good to be back in the community.. Between work, etc, etc, and the fact that all 9 of my buddies and my catfish rods/reels were stolen, I havent done too much fishin here lately. Although that is changing.
Been doin alot of fishin on LL and Ray Bob out of me 17' alum. Spectrum bass boat. No luck here lately although have caught good fish off the bank in almost all the spots mentioned previously in this thread. Been wanting to try some drifting on Lewisville and maybe some overnight juggin, still checking out the site but looks great so far. Type you guys with the latest news.
James, we ought to get together sometime. I live in Denton and work dowtown Dallas and before I got my boat I was always looking for the next hotspot I could get to on the bank without tresspassing or paying high prices.. Made the trip to the Lewisville spillway a bunch of times when you had to walk or bike the mile+ walk... Anyway,
Have yall tried Shady Shores public boat ramp. I've seen several huge cats brought up by guys on the bank and plenty of shad off the dock and ramp areas..
Happy Cattin, Lucas

headed over to Grapevine to look over the lake and found Murrell Park. It's a nice place. Had places marked for you to fish at. My kids and I headed over to the Marina there and it's really nice.
Told the kids that we will find us a great spot, because my fishing friends would tell me which one to head to. Also am going to try and drag my husband too. You can camp there and that all I need. Will just leave him in the tent reading and the kids and I will fish.
It's not really that far from Irving, especially since I know how to get over there now.

Muller park has to be one of the nicest free parks around that ive been to. Ive got a spot that i fish the mouth of a small cove. cant think of how to tell you to get there though. if im not mistakeing take the main road past the turn off for the marina should see a rock road come up somewhere just take it all the way to the end. the cove gets pretty deep from what i can see from the bank and seems to be lots of structur well if the water ever comes back up

Heading over to Muller park tomorrow morning. It seems like I always want to get off early and things come up to prevent me from it.

Hey James-
Long time no C. Heard about your latest catches, nice... We oughta get together Sun. for some fishin on LL. I've got a tourney on Fork here soon so the boat is under the much needed cosmetic repairs. I was hoping to get the carpet done this weekend but it's supposed to rain again, all weekend. Bummer, although I wouldnt mind doing some bankin'. What time were you planning on being out there?

I was planing on heading either to the 35 bridge if it doesnt rain to much or by the rocks near the barge. If its raining very hard I wont be heading out. Ill be heading to the spillway to get some bait right after work. then prob head out. Im guessing 8ish

Hey Chuck,
My name is Curtis. I hope things are going as well as can be expected for you. I am interested in fishing LL with you. I have a boat I've been working on for the summer, and it's got lots of room.
Do you know where to catch shad on the lake? I've got a 50 gallon bait tank that needs some use.
C2
I don't know where to catch bait fish. I would be interested in fishing with you. Do you fish at different lakes in Texas? Curtis call me. My cell is 972-896-8581-

James,
Nope, I haven't caught a carp, two times I have caught a buffalo tho out of the carp well.
Paid 6.00 at the other one, it's a nice area---When I have more time will try it again.
does you hubby and kid like to fish? how many children are living with you/

Hey Chuck,
Hope you do well with your treatments.
Are you taling about a fishing buddy or wanting to charge me? I have a 2006- 26 foot Gallaxy fish and ski boat with a v8 mercruiser and a 80# Minn Kota trolling motor. I'm 57 years old and retired now. So I can fish basically any time except when I get my kemo. Which is every Mon. and Tue. every 3 weeks. My cell number is 972-896-8581.
